Fully modular PSU recommendations?

I've been shopping around for a new PSU for the new rig i'm in the midst of building,

I've become rather fond of fully modular(modular 24-pin) power supplies that are out there. I'm aware that modularizing the 24-pin adds another point of failure, but the convenience factor ranks very highly in my book and, thinking ahead, it seems to make routing and sleeving much easier.

I've been searching around for a few and found these:
TOPOWER POWERBIRD TOP-900W 900W
SILVERSTONE DECATHLON DA850 850W
X3 ULT40071 800W

From what i've read on them, [h] reviews included, they all seem to be rather good PSUs. Is there any one that you folks would reccomend above the rest?

Are there any other good ones out there that i've missed?

As a side note, a friend also recommended i get a Kingwin Mach 1 series PSU if i wanted something with 'more eyecandy' but still a nice psu. Anyone have any thoughts?

Apologies for the deluge of questions, i'm just finding myself easily lost in the sea of PSUs out there. :p

this is what i have in my computer COOLMAX 950W and i had great experiences. it runs my i7 920 @ 4.46 along with my sli gtx 260 and my WC loop with absolutely no problems. recently had to get the 24 atx power cable replaces and coolmax sent out a new one for free with next day shipping.

Did a quick search on that psu and at the end jonnyGuru says it can not do more than 700w at room temp.

And this seems to be the PSU that gets recommended the most Corsair 850HX

Out of those, I'd go with the Powerbird.

The Silverstone Strider series is worth a look. They're pretty good Enhance-built units.

They're good but not great, and also not fully modular. If you're willing to go with partially-modular PSUs, there are much better choices out there like the Corsair HX850 and Seasonic M12D 850W.

Ahh yeah, I had forgotten about that one.
I had seen it earlier and ruled it out because it didn't seem to stand up to the other choices in terms of build quality and ability, which seems to be reinforced by the review Eldest_One linked from johnnyguru.

Yeah, I know about the 850HX. Its a great PSU, but i'm looking for something fully modular. ;)

Out of those, I'd go with the Powerbird.

Oh, i had completely missed the Strider. It does indeed seem pretty nice...

I'll be the first one to admit that the Corsair and Seasonic are among some of the best PSUs available currently, however, i'd like to explain my mentioning the Kingwin. The only reason i tossed it in there, even though it isn't fully modular, is because it seems to be both stable and had a unique look that was a bit appealing to me.

The one thing fully modular power supplies lack is any sort of unique look. They're all generic black except for the powerbird stands out a bit with it's mirror finish. The Kingwin, while lacking the full modularity seemed to bring both a unique look and a decently stable PSU to the table.

Aesthetics are secondary to quality of course, but still something that i find important as well. I know the plain look of many of the current PSUs appeal to a lot of people. However, as long as it doesn't hinder the performance of the PSU to any major degree, i'm in the camp that prefers something a bit more interesting to look at. :D

Pretty sure the Superflower Kingwin isn't a match for the M12D, HX850 or Revolution 85+ in the performance department. and the 800W doesn't even appear to have APFC.

IMO it isn't a match in the looks department either.

I'd go for the Decathalon or Strider.

the corsair hx850 is probably the best psu you can buy

its $159.99 at dell business

What went wrong with the 24pin atx power cable that caused you to have to get it
replaced?

I'd advice you to replace the PSU ASAP. If you read Eldest_One's JonnyGURU link, that PSU can only do 700W at room temp. PSUs typically get hotter than that when in heavy use. Sure it's working fine now but with the setup you described, that PSU is gonna have a pretty damn short life. IN which case, I hope it doesn't kill your system.

If you still want to keep that PSU out of stubborness or lack of funds, then please stop recommending that PSU altogether. Not like we want others to pay for a shitty PSU now do we?
