Looking to upgrade to more current tech on my aunt's computer. Since I am her IT support, I do like the mid atx / atx cases for ease of work and prices are a little cheaper. ITX is an option though as it is what she currently uses and what I was able to build on the egg. BUDGET IS $300 total (OS,Monitor, Keyboard/Mouse being reused). Primary uses- Facebook/games, news/weather, email

Current Specs
AMD 5600 (2.9Ghz dual core)
DDR2 4GB
250GB HDD
Shuttle Case/PSU

Found-
Price- $239 (Refurbished)
i3 2120 (3.3Ghz dual core w/HT)
DDR3 4GB
250GB HDD
Dell Case

OR SFF with 8GB ($285)

Or built-
Price- $219
CPU/MOBO- BIOSTAR A68N-5000 AMD A4-5000 Quad-Core
RAM- Team Elite Plus 8GB
HDD- Corsair Force LS CSSD-F120GBLSB 2.5" 120GB ($95 for 240GB)
Case- APEX MI-100BK Black Steel Mini-ITX w/250W PSU

I'm not up to date on the APU's. The one in my build appears to be mobile based. I would like to have a nice upgrade for her but it has to stay under 300 total.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Outlaw

Could pick up a refurb like Danne says.. makes it easy on you. plug in activate go.

Newegg/tiger has deals all the time but go through the manufacture if you can... just my experience if you have problems.. easier to deal with.

If i was building a system for the use you specify i'd be looking at something like this for low power use, acceptable in day to day tasks and some lightweight gaming.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tvfj99 ~$210 + OS if needed
Maybe add a DVD/blueray if they watch movies.

I would go with 8GB of RAM.

Overall user experience will be a lot better even for a regular user.

Thanks for info. It definitely looks like the refurb is going to be it. It will have the 8GB as well.

Thanks again
