Ok, my wife has a friend that is in need of a new comp (everything but the monitor).
It needs to be Mid-end, a little to no gaming (nothing new at all), but has to be a multimedia comp (blu-ray for sure). Mostly going to be web surfing, music, and general computing stuff. She want's it to not be sluggish, but be fast enough not to need any future upgrades for a while. So i'm going for a nice low-end ssd, ram, and stock cooling(and speed)
She has an external usb 2.0 1tb HD. There is no need for sata 6gb, usb 3.0, or any other new age stuff except of course pcie16x, no bells and whistles. So far I'm going for an AMD based system.
INFO BELOW
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Multimedia (including blu-ray reading, and burning), web browsing, very, very mild gaming, like 4 year ago stuff if that, mayve is just flash games, she dosen't even know the diff of 2d\3d games, photo browsing
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$700 USD. lower is better, and I don't see this build every going over $700
3) Where do you live?
Puerto Rico, ouch on the shipping, better off one site shipping if can be
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
I have a lot of parts sitting around, but don't know if they will fit after i decide on the build but here goes. MB, CPU, RAM, Case, (fans?), Vid card, Psu, ssd(60gb), HD (500+) (and more but all the rest will be bought locally
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I really can't say to this point until i figure what part i may, or may not re-use
6) Will you be overclocking?
NO
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
TV, so far, again mostly an HTPC, if not will decide locally
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
Just the basics
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yea Win7 P 64, and Win7 P 32
