FSP400-60PN anomaly

I just bought a new FSP400-60PN PSU for an old computer I'd like to keep running. I've discovered an anomaly with it that concerns me. I have an under-the-monitor (CRT) power pad. It's the old style pad with switches for each item (monitor, computer, etc.) and a master switch.

Normally after powering down my computer, I will power off the master switch on the power pad. Just before powering up my computer, I will (of course) power on the power pad's master switch.

Any PSU I've owned in the past has powered-on immediately after the power pad master switch power on. This FSP400-60PN does not. It needs several seconds (about five) after the power pad's power one, before the computer's power switch will work.

My guess is that the FSP400-60PN with PFC forces the several seconds wait before power on. My other power supplies for this computer did not have PFC. Am I right or is my FSP400-60PN just defective?

Unless it's an actual stability issue or what not, I don't think the PSU is defective.

Other than the minimum four second wait (I've confirmed it), there seems to be no problem.

I'd like to not worry about it, but any anomaly I notice concerns me as either a problem or potential problem. What do you think is causing the power-on delay?

I believe PFC uses extra capacitors, so if they're large it's probably just their charge time (even though 4 seconds seems long for that). Thats my best guess.

That's my thought also. I just wish someone could confirm by duplicating my experiment with another PFC PSU.

I've seen this happen a lot with various PSUs and system configurations.

Hell, my own personal rig with a Corsair TX750 takes a few seconds after being plugged in before it will power on.

Thanks Blue Falcon! That's exactly what I needed to know! Now I have greater confidence that my PSU anomaly...isn't!

Same behavior (though it's 2-3 seconds) for me, Core 2 Duo rig with an Enermax PFC supply.

Thanks for the confirmation! I've timed it a little more carefully and it's 4-5 seconds minimum. At least I know a time delay exists for others.
