FSP BlueStorm 500W making problems

Hello,

My system is :
Athlon XP 2500+ Mobile
Thermaltake Volcano 12 Extreme
Epox 8rda3+ rev 3.2
MSI 9800 pro @ XT - Zalman FS-V7
WD 8mb 80GB
WD 30GB
Liteon CDRW
Compucase 6A19 case with 2 x 120mm fans
and ofcourse a FSP BlueStorm 500W AX-500-A

In Everest home editon, the voltages are changing every few seconds. I checked it out and it seems that it should be permanent in Everest and should not "move". Another problem is that the -5v rail is reported to give 3.5V~. I think its not good. Also, the 12v rail is giving 12.40v~-12.50v~ and it seems very bad for such a PSU.

What's the problem ?

There is no -5v on that PSU... it's been dropped from the ATX spec after 2.0. Don't worry about it though - not many devices use it.

You'll need to measure the rails with a multimeter for accurate results - software and BIOS readings are not accurate. My own 5v heavy rig reports 4.44v at times on software, yet when measured the 530w beast I run never goes below 5.09v on my best meter.
 
How can I measure it ? just connect it to a molex ?

I have a -5v rail on Everest - It's just a bad reading of the software ?

I also have "jumps" in the volts. from 12.40 to 12.46 etc... I think it should be permanent, isn't it ?

You can measure 5v and 12v1 from a molex, but 12v2 will have to come from the back of the 4 pin P4 connector - carefully slide something like a sewing needle or straight pin into it at a yellow wire and touch the red probe of the meter to the pin. You can use any black wire for ground. Similarly, 3.3v will have to be measured at the back of the ATX connector itself.

Your software is trying to read a -5v rail that isn't there - that's why it looks odd. I wouldn't worry too much about 12v fluctuation if the system is stable. My 5v fluctuates more than that when I get it really overclocked (goes from about 4.81 idle to 4.44v load in software), yet I've never had a problem with stability unless I try to push the XP above 2.4GHz (my CPU cooler can't handle that).
