For sale: Dell H830 RAID controller with 2GB NV cache and BBU, 8 bay SAS/SATA tower, the cables to go between them, plastic container with all the screws needed for either size drive, and extra long high power power cord. It works well with many types of SSDs, enterprise grade 2.5" HDs, and 5400RPM 3.5" HDs, including WD Red drives. Does not work with laptop drives (too slow to respond) or 7200RPM 3.5" drives (not enough airflow). I have tried. $500 shipped.

Yeah, that was my intent when I bought it, $350 for the controller, $420 for the enclosure, and $60 each for the cables. I had intended to fill it with 1TB laptop drives in a RAID 10, but the laptop drives were too slow to respond, and the RAID controller would not allow the system to boot with them in the enclosure. I later tried 6X 4TB Ultrastars, but the enclosure didn't have enough airflow and the drives overheated, damaging one. So, I was left with a few older 5400rpm WD green drives of varying capacity from 1 to 3TB, which didn't work for my VM lab too well. I tried a lot of things, but never used it long term. Now I find myself in need of some extra cash, so I'm trying to sell it.
