i looked around before posting this, don't see anyone else mentioning anything, but is the [H] site's front page down? am i blind or did i miss some announcement?

i keep getting the "connection reset" error.

I get a lot on the home page and a lot when trying to hit the forums. Seems to be getting worse.

The forum was down last Saturday, but the main page has not been down for quite some time. If you are having issues, you might try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then also flushing your DNS cache. All is good on our end.

I use FireFox 1.5 at home and work and I haven't experienced any such problems. I am assuming by "fasterfox" you mean FireFox. And why would the [H] block a browser that they are such huge proponents of? LOL

Sounds like a network error with your ISP, or like Kyle said, it's in your cookies, browser cache, or DNS cache.

I'm getting it alot on both pages as well. I'm using IE on the PC and Safari on the laptop. i don't think its a DNS thing. Something is definitely out of whack. One minute [H] is there, and then some other random time I can't connect. And judging by the amount of people reporting it, I would say its not coming from this end.

got home and it worked fine.

really strange since i had the problems on my laptop, which goes up and down and moves to and from different networks all day long, i don't use hibernate so it's a fresh boot each time, but my home machine, on 24/7 to the same ISP never has a problem.

if others have experienced this, makes me wonder....

how many folks out there who experience this often enough to notice see it from an SBC DSL connection?

i ask because my school has a problem with one of their web sites and 2 local ISP's: grandecom and SBC. connections reset when trying to access one of their web aplication servers that uses somke kind of bandwidth throttling mechanism between the clusters for load balencing.

at home on roadrunner i don't have the problem, as well as all the other students on roadrunner. coincidence maybe? i'm curious to know.

I have problems CONSTANTLY at work. Sometimes it is the frontpage, sometimes it is the forums, most of the time it is both.

I am at home right now, and I cannot access the frontpage, but the forums seem to be OK.

For the past few days everything has been off for me as well. Clearing cache/files/DNS hasn't made any difference. My symptoms are some of the images not showing up--random images in the forums. Right now some of the smilies are X's out (or blank boxes), the "http://www.hardforum.com/clear.gif" doesn't show up etc.

Clicking on links randomly results in a "The requested URL could not be retrieved" page, then works after paging back and retrying. (Just happened when I tried to post this - edit: happened twice but the post went through the second time.)

This happens on hardocp.com as well as hardforums.com.

Do us a favor and post your tracert. Otherwise, I really cant help.

Are any of you running adblockers? Avast? Other software firewalls?

I'm running PC-Cillin 2006, but it doens't have much in the way of ad blocking. This morning I couldn't connect to the forums, but I got the front page just fine. On my Powerbook I'm not running any firewall, and the only feature that I am using in Safari is "Block pop-up Windows". I've ssen this behavior at home on both machines, and when I'm on campus with the laptop through their wireless network. Strange.

Could it possibly be a geographical thing? For instance, I'm in North Jersey and I don't have any problems at all, either at home or at work. Home is Optimum Online cable modem, and work is... I'm not sure, actually. :)

Here's another tracert I did a few minutes ago when I couldn't access the forums. I tried multiple refreshes and a dns flush but no joy. Anyway, here it is:

EDIT: If i try using the ip address i just get a white screen that says Server Name: www2.itotf.net

EDIT2: If I leave off the www part the page loads.

For Avast, you can customize the web scanning to exclude certain sites, as seen in the following pic:

Avast-WebShield-Customize.jpg

I only exclude the sites that I trust and visit frequently.

@Everyone who has posted here: What anti-virus, browser, anti-ad, & anti-spyware programs are you using?

There may be a correllation to certain combinations (among other things - ISP provider and such) which are preventing you from viewing [H]ard|OCP or [H]ard|forum pages.

In the past, when my system was overclocked - either too high or with inapropriate settings - IE, FireFox, Mozilla (yes, I use them all) would not open those sites due to stack corruption.

I haven't posted but before I am having the issues. They started in early december (8th...9th...something like that)....then went away after about 10 days. It started again this week. Mine only happen with hardforum.

I think it maybe ISP related though so I learned to live. At anyrate here is my data.

OS: Windows XP Pro x64
Browsers: IE (32bit and 64bit), Opera 8 (and 9 preview), FireFox 1.0.7 and 1.5.0.1
A/V: Symantec Corp 10 and Avast (in every config)
Antispyware: MS Guardian Beta 2, Spybot
Did the whole flush dns, dump cookies etc.

Error: The connection was reset

i am consistantly getting the problem at work on their SBC connection. this is on my laptop, running sygate personal firewall and avast antivirus behind a router on the internet connection with SBC's modem running in bridging mode.

at home, behind a linux router onmy desktop also running sygate and avast av, but this time a roadrunner internet connection, i have zero problems.

here's the screenie of what i get at work (this is after flushing dns also):

funny you mention that.... when i do an NSLOOKUP and plug the ip's into my browser, 2 of the ip addresses give me the www2.itotf.net page, and the one that is the top ip returned gives me the connection reset message in firefox.

All 3 do the same for me:

Name: www.hardforum.com
Addresses: 69.56.175.234, 69.56.175.235, 69.56.175.233

nslookup 69.56.175.233

This is all looking to be a FireFox problem as it is happening with other sites as well. Lots of code changing this weekend, so this will not be looked into any more. FYI, the forum code will not be changing. But let's revisit this next week.
