So I reacently got a new comp and just went to test my "old" mobo and cpu for potental resale.
The mobo is a elite group 848p-a with a p4 3.2 it started up fine for a second the one of the onboard chips got super hot super fast a mere second it shuts off and the dreaded smell of fried electronics hit the air.

had a vid card in and some ram and of course the cpu.

Was it just the mobo or could have the the vid card/cpu have been affected.
I know the memory works as it is in this comp.

Thanks
Rab

Sounds pretty fried to me if you smell it ...frying :(

How did you know one of the chips got real hot? Were you poking around at the board while it was runng?

It might be helpful if you can post what's on the chip so someone can identify it.

edit: I imagine it's possible that the videocard and CPU could be affected, especially since we don't know caused your old board to die. There's really no way to know for sure without physically testing both in another machine.

ECS

Frankly, the board have the potential to affect everything else.. best to test the seperate components in another system.

There is a chance that despite the fact that its an ECS, the PSU might be responsible for taking out the motherboard.

What was the video card? It sounds like you used a 2x AGP card and fried the AGP voltage regulator.

Or maybe you forced your RAM in the wrong way.

/edit: did you have a HSF installed?

video card was a 9800 agp
Was sitting right next to it when it went down and looked for some thing wrong and found out the chip was very hot after just a few seconds.

As far as the chip goes: Intel (R)
fw82801eb
l2470063
5l73z
intel (m)(c)' 02
malay

HSF and ram were installed correctly
No way to test em as all other computers are pci express and lga77 or what ever.

I really dont care if the board is dead its the video and cpu i am worried about.
