Hi all. I'm looking for advice choosing a free MMO. I've been playing trickster for a while, but it's getting kind of boring. I'm looking for a recommendation for a free MMO (cash-shop type), fantasy, with a good number of quests since I'm a PvE kind of person. Thanks in advance.

free mmos are never truely free. you end up spending money to get items and things ingame.

Well, I have a lot of self discipline. I've never paid for anything in Trickster and don't anticipate paying for anything in any game I play. I'm also game for suggestions of RPG's or Tactical RPG's that are free as in beer (I've played Wesnoth and love it but need variety).

Ragnarok has a free server with very little limitations. It's Hello Kitty on the surface but there are layers of strategies in this game as far as damage and defense calculations go. I got a bunch of my friends who are ex-WoW players and they thought it would be a walk in the park because of the cutesy look. Months later they're still learning strategies. It's not easy mode like WoW so it holds my attention longer.

Lots of quests:

I quit WoW a while ago, but RO better than WoW? LOL.

I liked Rappelz a LOT more than RO, and I've tried at least half a dozen free MMORPGs overall (KAL Online for example). I think they are all lacking.

Ive been playing Rune Of Magic on and off for a few months now its very addicting i find.

as posted in the free games thread...

Requiem: Bloodymare

I just started playing this yesterday and I will 2nd this recommendation! :D

I also enjoied the Private beta of Shin Megami Tensei: Online (I believe it's in open beta - I am going to wait until it's out of beta so I don't loose my char again. :p)

Perfect World is fun, but I found myself getting lost a lot.

I downloaded a slew of others I haven't gotten too much into them yet. I will post again after I play them.

I don't recall saying RO > WoW in my post. Given your reading comprehension I believe WoW was made for folks like you.

Also you need to play RO for many months to get a 9x trans to really see what the game has to offer. I highly doubt you achieved this goal on iRO.

If you don't mind a learning curve and actually having to use your brain when you play you can play Anarchy Online for free. It's ad supported via in-game billboards and doesn't include the expansions but I certainly enjoyed it back when I played.

Granted it doesn't meet your 'fantasy' request since it most certainly is a sci-fi MMO but it's actually free...

I'm downloading lunia right now, I downloaded perfect world which seems neat, if a little busy and am looking at runes of magic. Thanks for all the great suggestions .

There's a guy on Listen Up (Formerly 1Up Yours) who talks about different free MMOs every show. Can't remember which one, but would be worth looking into.
