Hey guys, one of the attorneys i work for gave me a disk today of an interview but we need the audio fixed to where you can actually hear it. Its garbled and has lots of background noise that Id like to remove. I know its a shot in the dark to ask for a free program to do this but that's what we need. It may be too bad to fix but I want to try anyway. Any ideas on something that might work that might work in a jiffy?

You could play with Audacity - it has a noise removal filter but I can't vouch for it. Still, the price is right.

If you're doing this in conjunction with legal work, make EXTENSIVE notes as to what modifications you make to the original audio.

You might be asked to demonstrate and reproduce it.

This.

Remember to copy and save each edit to thoroughly prove what you've done.

To be honest, you can find decent audio editors on CNET(aka download.com) that'll do what you need.
or check out www.megageek.com and see what they have.

thanks guys we dont have to use it in court we just needed to hear the interview. Thanks again

Audacity has the ability to sample audio (the hissing/static) and remove that. Should work for you.
