Forza 3... Who's Getting It?

It's early days regarding the online modes anyway. There's simply too many options to give you the stuff offered in private rooms publicly (you'd never be able to match what you search on) and the most popular game modes from private games are going to be put in via hoppers (like Halo 3) over time anyway.

but if i understand correctly, nothing that was present in online play on Forza 2 like the lobby, ability to set room restrictions, ability to use your own tunes, etc.....all missing?

i need to hear from Turn 10 officially that we will at least get what we had in Forza 2 or i'm out.....

You can set all of that (and much much more), but you need to do it in a private room.

This is all you need imo. I raced so many public races where others would ram me off the road, one guy got pissed how much faster my lotus was around the ring, so he waited for me, then timed it right so he left "ghost form" just in time to total my car.

I really wont miss playing with people like that.

Now I just need to find some fun people to run races between 8am and 3pm CST :)

And thats the problem for many users(their is even a petition about this in the official forums). what if none of your mates are online and you wish to join a public server with full damage on?

What about if want to race a car thats from class f -b? i dont understand why the fuck they took out these features in comparison to fm2

Like I said before, game types are going to get added as hoppers quickly over time. It's not the sort of thing that just stays static. They're specifically trying to avoid the problem Forza 2 had where you'd end up in some random room with screwed up settings that the host could change every race.

If you want specific matches like that, just add like minded people to your friends list. It's not like there's going to be any shortage of regular Forza players.

Checked with every GS in my area, none are doing midnight releases. How lame :(

If this was some college football nonsense game it would get a midnight release. Lame ass Alabama :(

For anyone complaining about the multiplayer, head over to the official forums. They've already stated they are patching some aspects of multiplayer and will be adding hoppers as time goes on based on what is being played.

If we have to wait a couple days so we have a system that works properly and effectively then I'll play career or set up my own races until then.

I hope they do fix it. I figured Epic would "fix" Gears 2 to allow public unranked matches again...they never did (and I never went back to it).

They'll never add public bespoke game types back in. They'll add enough hoppers so that 99% of players don't care though.

They should probably include a few more customisable options in some of the hoppers though (only a few have them).

Is multiplayer that big of a draw for this game? The single-player mode is so damn big...will definitely keep me happy.

Otherwise I agree with Psychotext...since there was no beta the developers are probably going to monitor the feedback and adjust the multiplayer as required.

Surprised you've found it that way. I've had some excellent races with the AI on hard and I find they'll happily find a way to beat you even if they're not on the ideal racing line. Plus it's a breath of fresh air vs the last two racing games I played (GRID and SHIFT) where the AI players are... wankers, for want of a better term. They don't care that you're next to or in front of them, they'll happily punt you off the track.

One place they really do suck though is off the start. They pretty much all go for the same line.

The more I've played it, the better the AI seems to be. I might've jumped the gun since I'd really only played that first championship when the cars all pelt around the track at a mindbending 80mph :)

ok, im confused, they took away the ability for us to define the rules of the room

how exactly will adding like minded members to our friends list help if we cant define the rules of the room?

i can tell you the single player was fun for about a month, then ever since then its been all multiplayer, and by multiplayer i mean setting up a room, say B class only with a horsepower restriction and force off all assists, room would quickly fill up with "like minded people" whether they be "friends" or not, and the room would run all night long this way

i think it was a very bad thing, so much i may not buy it now, not sure yet

and what are these "hoppers" you speak of?

yes, it literally takes the replay value to crap

you can create a private room with whatever settings you want but if none of your mates is online you have to join a public game with only class A onwards (cant do class f-b and cant browse online lobbies)and many settings not forced for public races

Hoppers are what you see in the multiplayer game list currently. For now it's things like circuit, drag, point to point etc with a bunch of sub groups... and they can add as many as they like beyond that with different settings.

If you've seen all the settings available for private rooms you might understand why there would be a problem making them public. There's simply too many variables to make searching for games effective. The lack of lower class and "professional" hoppers right now is certainly an oversight, but it's one I'd expect to be sorted pretty quickly.

It seem to work fine on FM2 though? Their are some settings that should be mandetory such has class specific races and forcing some of the aids off.

If you go further into stuff like PI index of cars, manifacturing types and family models then yea those can me ommited but stuff like searching for a race with just B classed cars with no breaking lines on should be no problem at all.

it worked well on fm2 so i dont see why they took it out for fm3. It would also be nice if online was done on dedicated servers instead of p2p.

I don't know of any console racing game that uses dedicated servers... so I think you might be a little over optimistic there.

As for assists etc... I don't disagree. I'd be happy if they gave us some rudimentary searching / setup of games with specific assists. What I don't want to see is a return to the Forza 2 style public games (which was why I rarely played anything other than private matches).

Patch is now up which fixes the possible "tampering" error and allows you to load your tuning options in the lobby.

I will be going to the gamespot release tomorrow as well. I am older, 30, and supposed to be drinking with some buddies, but may have to leave early to pick this up. How embarrassing. But so much fun is going to happen!

LOL...You're lucky (and young, I'm 40). I'm going to pick up the game today, but I have a meeting at 5pm, then when I get home my wife will be there, and courtesy dictates that I not play when she's around. I'm off tomorrow though!! WOOT. BUT, Friday night is a bust, going out, Saturday is messed up too, as I have a ton of errands to run. There's just not enough time to play video games in my life. I need to fix that.

I'm really looking forward to this game. The only addition I don't really like is the rewind function. I think that top leaderboard times should only count if the rewind hasn't been used during a hot lap. Otherwise you're gonna get some guy who's rewound 100 times during a lap just to get the perfect time. Bummer.

I also miss the off road/collision penalty system. That was what kept racing clean. I found that lap time bragging rights were as important as winning the race with some of my friends. Not that I ever did much of either of those, but hey, it was still fun.

If you're on Forza, look me up....Toronto1969

Wouldn't buy it without it. It's one of the biggest online community games (FM2) on the Xbox 360.

ok, im confused, they took away the ability for us to define the rules of the room.

Only on their dedicated servers. P2P private matches allow full rule definitions, and a crap load more than FM2 allowed.

It's like that by default. Use rewind, slipstream, cut a corner, go slightly off track, hit another car etc etc and your lap gets "uncertified" which means even if you manage to go around a track 100% faster than someone's certified lap, you'll still be below them.

My copy is on a UPS truck somewhere in Mesa, AZ on it's way to my front door.

Damn, you make me feel like a shitty husband.

I was going to buy Forza 3 today, but I'm having my friend buy me a copy at Best Buy with their buy 2 get 1 free deal. This way I don't have to be stuck with a bunch of extra games I don't have time to play.

just picked up a copy at best buy at lunch. have work till 4:30, then will be out of town for the night, so won't get to play it till after work wed. :-(

This is why men now a days marry women who play video games :)

I probably will not pick this up till Christmas. I told my girlfriend I would level characters with her in WoW again.

how big is this game to fully install? was thinking of getting a 2nd hand 20gb 360 for forza and gears of war 2 to use in December, cheers

The AI is pretty good on the highest difficulty.

My current car is the 432Z with widest front/rear tires and AWD conversion. It handles pretty good with the stock suspension. I'm going to save up and make it an A class with an RB I think.

The new menu system makes it so easy to upgrade and get back to racing really fast.

just picked up my LE copy from gamestop but all i can do is look at it as my box died and i wont be getting a new one till the 10th :(

Just got back from Sears with F3. WOW is this game awesome. Makes me happy I bought new 73" Mitsu last month too. It looks fantastic!!!

Damn, you make me feel like a shitty husband.

You're not a shitty husband, you're just doing what works for you!! Actually, last night she asked I got my game. I said yes, but I haven't played it yet. She said, why don't I go and read for a while so you can play!!! WOOT.

I love it.

So, I played until about 11pm (from 8pm). The game is awesome. I can see it sucking up a lot of my time that's for sure!!

All the people out there who say the changes are "minor" should take a closer look. The tracks and environment look gorgeous, the cars, well we've all seen pictures, and the physics is much better.

The only thing I'm finding it hard to get used to is the camera angle. It's just slightly different than Forza 2, and that's taking some getting used to.
