So my boss' old security camera recording computer decided to break, and what did he do with it? chucked it in the skip out the back of work. I raided it and managed to score 3 90mm fans and 2 maxtor IDE hard-drives. rest of it was crap (single stick of 233mhz ram and a 200w psu)

How do i go about formatting these? is it as simple as plugging them in and booting windows then formatting? or do i need to worry about jumpers etc etc? i dont even know if they work and i don't want to know whats on them, i just want to do a format and if they work, wonderful! and if they don't, meh they were free :)

hdd 1
maxtor 4D040H2 40gb ultra ata 5400rpm

hdd 2
maxtor YAR41VWO 120gb diamondmax plus 9 120gb ata

they are both ata drives so i don't even know if its worth it tbh.

I currently have 1 x 320 seagate sata, and 1 x 120 seagate sata in my rig, my 320 is partioned as my C and E drives, and the 120 is my D drive.
is this going to be more complicated than its worth?

Set their jumpers either to master/slave if they are going to be using the same IDE channel, or set them both to cable select. Plug them in, turn on your comp, power on, that should be it. You can format them using the Windows Disk Management utility.
