I live in Thailand, so I can't get stuff from Newegg, Amazon, etc. My current desktop is ancient (6-7 years?) and dying so I want to make a new build that will last for a while.

Main use is watching movies and TV I download together with some light photoshop and lightroom. I'd like to be able to watch 1080p (and perhaps higher resolution stuff when it comes out) without stuttering and starting as I now do. As all my parts are ancient, I won't reuse anything except my monitor and a couple two terrabyte hard drives I use to store movies and other stuff I've downloaded. I'll need a CPU, motherboard,Ram, video card, boot drive (swap drive too?), power supply and card reader thingie.

Price is no real object--I prefer value for my buck but will probably go for an i7 build because an extra hundred dollars or so is ok here and there. I guess you'd say I want the sweet spot and perhaps a bit above.

I noticed on a photoshop build thread that someone suggested a 240gb Samsung solid state drive and an 120gb swap drive. That's a new concept to me and if someone could clue me in on the purpose of that I'd be grateful. I googled swap drive but ended up in a mass of confusing and outdated info.

I know this request is not exactly in the usual form, but it's a bit unusual in a few ways so I hope that's ok. Thanks in advance for any help you guys could give me.

First and foremost, it's called a "scratch disk", not a swap drive. That kind of setup is for heavy duty photoshop users. The purpose is to speed up the loading and editing of large sized photoshop files/projects or large amounts of photoshop files/projects. It's not exactly a new concept since that tech/method has been around since at least 2004.

USB 3.0, UEFI, perhaps sata 6Gb/s as I intend to have a good solid state drive for my OS.

Some old 2 TB Hard drives full of downloaded stuff. WD green drives.

Did you need a case and DVD burner as well? Those are missing from your answers to questions 4 and 5.
