Forcing AA in recent games?

I'm on my last leg with AMD.
Over the last 6ish months or so, I haven't been able to force any MSAA settings in games. The only time MSAA works is when the game itself has the option available in the menus.

I'm using RadeonPro and CCC, tried both independently and simultaneously, no improvement. I've been forcing SMAA/FXAA via RadeonPro (which does work) to fill the gaps but everytime I google for an answer I find "Use Nvidia Inspector for force AA" and it works fine for Nvidia cards.

I feel like I'm living in 2004 again. Why is this so difficult?

Most newer games use a deferred rendering engine.

You cant force AA with a deferred renderer unless the game itself supports AA.

Its one of the reasons pixel shader AA was developed.

Nvidia has the same problem, its not specific to AMD. If someone tells you nividia inspector can do it they are either lying, or talking about shader AA.

VSR/DSR is an accelptable supstitute if you have the hardware

Umm, yes you can force MSAA/CSAA/SSAA in most games that don't support it with Nvidia inspector (set the AA compatibility flag manually for tricky games). Unfortunately AMD doesn't seem to support this functionality, or atleast I haven't seen any tools that allow the same level of control.

RadeonPro does/did support this functionality but unfortunately it doesn't offer as widespread of compatibility as NVInspector does, and it's no longer under active development.

Yeah Raptr has better use of him coding their "optimization feature" to automatically set graphics options for people who are too stupid to understand the complexities of things like Anisotropic Filtering. Two very big words!

Meanwhile, the rest of us with functioning brains are left fighting for scraps. If I have to play one more game without MSAA while my GTX 770 brethen cruise at silky smooth 8X, my AMD card is going straight out the window. This is a big fucking deal. To me, anyway. I don't see why I'm the only person complaining about it. When was it acceptable to have no MSAA whatsoever?

I can live without PhysX, TXAA, and Nvidia's "realistic fur" or whatever other crap they're pushing down Ubisoft's throat this year. But key features like anti-aliasing I can't live without -- especially on games that are 2+ YEARS OLD! Oh well, there will always be some random German guy to develop programs and pick up AMD's slack. Next they'll hire that guy and have him brew their coffee or something equally useless.

RadeonPro, Radit, GeDoSaTo. Why can't AMD hire all of these people and then officially integrate their features into Catalyst drivers? It's so simple.

Raptr has some cool features and it's gotten better over the years, but yeah, I really wish we had better AA support in the Catalyst drivers. Being able to run absurd levels of AA in older games is great.

I use vsr and haven't felt the need for any sampling
Doesn't work for windowed mode (outside of native resolution), VSR is also only supported by Tonga/Hawaii, doesn't do me any good.

Not going to buy a new GPU for the sole purpose of getting AA, which should be part of AMD's featureset to begin with.
VSR isn't an AA replacement in the first place.

Sorry thought I saw you say you had a 290 like me. Radeonpro always seemed to work so never needed to get more in depth with the settings.

There's supposed to be an updated omega driver coming out this month according to AMD for the 280x that will unlock VSR. I also have a 280x and was super disappointed that it wasn't supported in the original driver package. The only other fallback AA I've had was SMAA but isn't supported in a few of the games I've played.

Its a hardware limitation, it uses the internal scaler on the card.

the new version will be software based and doesnt rely on the scaler.

I am hoping they update VSR to support 120+ Hz, because otherwise it's not very useful with my ROG Swift. :(

like someone else said in this thread, nvidia is in your future. people will tell you that you cant force msaa with nvidia inspector, thats when you do your own homework.
