? for COD4 PC players from PS3 owner

That's your logic? That since the problem is somewhat common but not universal, it's impossible for it to be a software defect? That if the problem isn't experienced by more than 5% of users the problem is absolutely and without question the user?

That's really the story you're sticking with?

The user, it could be a hardware or configuration error, but if it was the software that wasnt working that would meen it doesnt work for anyone, they didnt make a special broken version of cod4 just for you and the other minority...

So from the majority of the post's it looks like the pc version and even the 360 (prior to Live! wigging out) have had minimal to no issues...I'm trading that bastard PS3 verison in and getting the pc version tomorrow i'll let you know how it goes if you can check my sig to see if i meet the minimum requirements

It definitely won't be as pretty on your PC unless you upgrade that video card.

Take a look at this year's list of Microsoft updates.

Do you think all of those reliability updates and bug fixes affect every single Windows user? No. Many, many, MOST software bugs only manifest themselves in certain environments. There's usually nothing about these environments that can remotely be called "wrong." It can be a simple combination of otherwise happy hardware. It can be a driver version, another software package that's installed, the number of hard disks installed, whatever.

Whatever the case, though, there are lots and lots and lots of software bugs out there that are indeed software flaws but only affect a small subset of users.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't really mean to come off as a jerk and just chalk this up to "ring.of.steel doesn't really know that much about computer software, so I'll take a minute to educate him."

this is the max my Shuttle can take GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 would this improve performance. I don't think it can take the 8 series.

Yes that would be quite a bit faster, would an 8800 series card even fit in your shuttle?

Not really. Any more than 20 on a server and it turns into a big mess of disabled people running about holding down the mouse button and killing people/being killed the second they/you spawn.

He speaks truth. In terms of player numbers you're not missing much. Since the spawn times are so short it's really unnecessary to have 24+ players on any of the maps. I could see more players being beneficial if the spawn times are longer like in BF2. Most of the CoD4 maps are smallish and don't need a lot of players for great action.

CoD4 Multiplayer is awesome only thing is you don't get a buddy list. Also they dont save your profile on offical servers and dont record your stats. But other than that it's quite fun hand hassle free.

I agree the non buddy list thing is terribly gay I play with my brother all the time and we just kinda have to randomly run into eachother. pretty lame.

Other than that, OP this game has no problems on PC it fuckin kicks major ass online.

Gets a tad boring after you've leveld everything up, but then that's where structured non pub gaming comes in.

UPDATE: I decided to keep the PS3 version after the update on their servers 2 weeks ago my wait times and disconnects have decreased 98% so it went from a major annoyance to a minor hassle i hope they keep this up from now on.

Doesn't let you filter Hardcore mode or not, doesn't let you search, takes ages and ages to populate, doesn't include many many servers, etc. Half the time I load the thing up it only "gets" a couple hundred servers, total, if that (sometimes I get a couple dozen) and reports ping times in the hundreds of ms despite the fact that I can connect to one of my favorites with a sub-80ms ping.

This is not the fault of your server browser, it's the fault of your router. This is what happens when you have one of the cheaper routers (I know my old Linksys WRT54G was prone to this), because they have small NAT tables. Problem is, when you refresh 11,000 servers so fast, you're connecting to many servers at once, the NAT tables get saturated, and your router slows down tremendously during that amount of time. The slowdown in your router will make the server list refresh slower, and the latency times to be much higher than usual. With the WRT54G, it seems to happen with about 500 servers or more...the first 500 servers refresh quickly, and then it slows to a crawl. You can fix this problem by investing in a better router, like the D-Link DGL-4300 (don't get any of the cheaper D-Links, they suck).

I refresh the 11,000 servers in less than 30 seconds, which is pretty damn fast. Server browser isn't perfect (I think the Valve server browser is much better), but it's one of the better ones out there for sure.

i heard for the ps3 that cod4 server are a bit busy. my friend at work keep on getting disconnected. the time to connect is also very long.

i have cod4 for the pc. my experience is excellent. less than minute to connect and get into the game.

I'm unsure of the xbox360 but so far i have not heard of any complain.

Not to forget that we have external server browsers such as xfire (not sure if that has CoD4 support yet, but I suspect it does)

These server browsers work externally to the game and can launch the game to automatically connect to a game server for you, much like the server browser built into steam. It means you dont have to navigate menus and skip through loading viodes etc, the game is just launched to go straight into the server, we're talking <10 seconds on a decent PC.

Hey, guess what!

The new 1.5 patch fixed the server browser problem.

Or maybe I fixed "my problem" ;)

Really doesn't need much more than that. One of the larger maps, Bog, is actually so small, you can kill someone at the enemy base as soon as you spawn. If it weren't for the buildings, everywhere on the map is within reach of the grenade launcher.

yea like what he said. cod4 is the best game for a quick blast online, literely if u was waiting on somthing for 5mins, in that time you could have a quick game of cod4 online easily. it leterely takes maybe 30seconds from the moment u click the icon to the moment the server map is loaded and ready for carnage. the maps loads super quick for me on my single core P4 northwood, on a PATA hdd. image how quick it would be on a up to date dual core SATA system :O

The only other online game i have is BF2, and the improvement in loading time from desktop to ingame was a godsend.

Sounds like my experiences with XBL.

360 owner chime in:

Other than the times where XBL was having issues, I've never had to wait more than 2 minutes to get a game started and populated with players. There have been periods with hiccups yes, but the norm is nowhere near 10 minutes.

Thats a very strange issue indeed, for PS3 or 360.
