I own the PS3 version and playing online for me is *unpleasant* to put it lightly. I hear 360 owners have similar issues. So my question is how is your online experience with COD4?

Unpleasant?

i dont play in servers with less then 40 people lol. the more people in a server the better hehe
10 to 20 minute wait time to play a match only to get disconnected as soon as you start 8 out of 10 times.
Yikes. Like jonny said I also jump online for quick games here and there. I'm continually amazed at how quickly you can start shooting from the time you click on the CoD4 MP icon. Refreshing servers is fast, loading the map is fast and spawn times are low.

On ps3 there is a kind of lobby system, not stationary servers im sure.
The server browser for the PC sucks, but luckily we have game-monitor.com
I find games there, then just copy and paste the IP address into the console. When I find a server I like, I add it to my favorites. I have a nice little list there and just choose the one I want to play on.
It's literally never more than 20 seconds between clicking on the COD4 icon and choosing weapons.

Not really, its the same for pretty much all online pc games.

Whether other games use it or not, it still sucks to the point of being almost worthless.
The online play with 360, from what i've seen, is ridiculous. I've only seen Halo 3, but the way you don't browse servers, but rather get matched together with people of supposedly similar talent is stupid and took a very long time.
How does it suck? I do not play COD4 anymore but the server browser has remained practially the same as COD1, what is so bad about it? I find it nearly perfect..
takes ages and ages to populate, doesn't include many many servers, etc. Half the time I load the thing up it only "gets" a couple hundred servers, total, if that (sometimes I get a couple dozen) and reports ping times in the hundreds of ms despite the fact that I can connect to one of my favorites with a sub-80ms ping.

There must be somthing wrong with your setup then.

The obvious answer is to just type in the IP address manually. No waiting for anything to load, no browsing, no checking server names, nothing. Just ~, /connect [ip address] and go.HTML:reports ping times in the hundreds of ms despite the fact that I can connect to one of my favorites with a sub-80ms ping.
I have the same problem since the patch 1.4 whatever and I have read online others experiancing the same. On the server browser it will report like 400ms but inside the game I am at what I was before the patch often down in the 70ms. It's a pain I have learned to deal with.
I do agree it could be much better. When me and my friend picked up the game the same day and wanted to play together it was a painstacking process making sure we got in the same game.
Oh yeah? My "setup"? What's wrong with "my setup"?
You guys are pretty defensive about a game's *server browser*. Game-monitor.com is ten times better than what's built into COD4.
Or if you keep up with COD4 at all, I'm not the only one that has these problems. Most people that I know in "the real world" experience similar problems and another poster in this very thread has reported that he has experienced it.Well you seem to have problems that others dont, so it must be your setup or its in your head.

You're welcome to stop by my house and show me what's wrong with "my setup" though.
Well if you keep 'up to date' with your cod4 installation maybe you wouldnt come across this.
I must be behind the times with my ancient 1.4 installation. I guess most other people are using the 1.5 patch that they downloaded from the future.
Well there is obviosly somthing wrong with your installation or your system, otherwise you wouldnt be experiencing problems, at 99% of people are not.
