You're planning too far in advance man. Hardware pricing and availability can change rapidly in as little as a week let alone 3-4 months from now. It does not help you at all to plan this far in advance. If you want up-to-date advice, ask for hardware advice when you're 1-2 weeks away from buying everything.

The price is set...my budget that is...just need to know what hardware I should be reading up is where I'm clueless. It is a shame I may not get the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday due to the sweet spot prices. I'd just hate if I do buy now, but not build it too early Feb, it would be a shame if some parts are DOA to begin with.
Leaning towards the following:
i7-4790K, MSI Z97 Gaming 5, G.Skill 16GB Ripjaw X, GTX 970 strix-gtx970-dc2oc-4gd5
Let me know if there's conflict.
I'm reusing other parts.

$360.00 for a 970 is a terrible value. Don't spend more than $300.00 for one.

keep my MSI R7870 until prices go down? my current specs
Win7Pro 64-bit/ ABIT IP35 Pro / Intel C2D E8400 /Xigmatek HDT-RS1283/ MSI R7870/16GB Corsair CM2X2048-6400C5DHX 5-5-5-18 / CORSAIR 850AX/ CM Stacker 830SE/ 120mm Yate Loon D12SL-12 / Creative Labs Fatal1ty ProGamer/

I think this is a better deal, but 100% convinced

ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card

from $349.99 sale for $299.99

$269.99 after $30.00 rebate card

thanks

That's a good deal for the GPU if you were buying today.

But you have not said clearly that you're buying these parts soon.

Wife change her mind, again.
Said purchase can be added to tax deduction...plus...I can concentrate on her Valentines Gift, her Birthday Gift, so on and on and on.....

not sure now if I have room even underneath...might have to ghetto mod this cooler with zip ties
