I have been folding again for the [H] since "rediscovering" my old F@H folder on a cd...could someone point me to a general guideline as to how fast my system should turn over a unit? Specs below...but for good measure it's an A64 (S754) with a gig of ram, all running at 250x10 = 2.5ghz

it all depends on the type of unit you get. I highly suggest using EM3 to monitor your stats for the different proteins and come back to us if it is running slow for no reason.

In my experience, the 3xx point gromacs take 22min/frame and the big 600 point gromacs take 37 min/frame. Yours should be faster.

Give me the specs on the project you are currently running and I will tell you how long it takes me to run one on a somewhat similar computer.

This is nothing but a general idea on WUs that are similar in point values that I have run on the rig in my sig. Since yours is an A64, it should chew through the WUs a little faster than my MobileXP even though it's the same clockspeed.

600 point "bigpacket" Gromacs take me about 30:30-31:30 minutes per frame and that is 100 frames while the system is idle except for folding.

241 point Tinkers take about 4:05-4:30 per frame at 400 frames while running only folding. The 4:30 may be a bit of a high number for a frame and I may be remembering what my old 2400+ Tbred-B @2300 did. I haven't gotten many Tinkers on my system lately that I've monitored.

364 point "bigpacket" Gromacs take around 16 minutes or so per frame at 100 frames. That is a rough guess since I haven't had very many of them and have only monitored a couple. I do remember that they take a bit over a day to do on my main system, though.

Offhand that's about all I can remember. There are so many other types of proteins out there and I haven't gotten a lot of them; at least on my main system. I haven't seen much of it lately so I don't know how long it takes to chew through the 66 and 69 point Ambers that have been all over the place lately.

I hope this helps a bit. Others may have a bit more info on some of the proteins. Also remember, just because two proteins have the same point value, doesn't mean they will fold at the exact same speed. I've seen two same value proteins that use the same core and one of them will take a good bit longer to process.

Yup, those numbers are pretty close overall. Should give you a workable idea.

Luck
