Folding on P3 600+ Slack

Just a quick question for you folders out there....

I setup Slackware 9.1 on an old Dell XPS T600. It's a P3 600 (according to KDE System Info its a Katmai). Anyways, I was just wondering if this time per frame sounds about right:

The project is one of those ones with the 400 frames. On my machine it takes ~36 minutes for 1 frame to complete.

Just wondering if this time is normal for a P3.

Yes. I have a P3 750. It was doing about 33 or 34 minutes a frame. Takes about 6 days to finish a unit.

my p3-450 running windows XP chews for about 38-39 mins a frame on those 400 jobbers.

That's probably about right. You can get some extra speed (or more points) by just using -advmethods -forceasm -forceSSE, and waiting until the next workunit. It'll use SSE, which will give a good speed boost. If your time per frame doesnt go down, your points per day should.

Yes, -advmethods will improve chances for a Gromacs protein that can benefit from SSE. I don't believe there is any reason to wait on using -forceasm (or -forceSSE). Just stop the client, make the change in the Startup Target line, and restart. If the CPU and the protein allow it, it will start. I can't recall. Is this a Tinker? If so, the optimizations don't help.

Yeah, I think it will still finish the tinker, but the next work unit will be gromacs.
