Hey all, just started Folding for the [H]orde on my 2.4 ghz 3200+ venice when I'm not on it(about 16 hours a day), just finished my first work unit and started the second. Just wanted to introduce myself, after I get a few work units done I'll have to look into how to get my badge(when the stats finally update).

Welcome! Always good to have another new member. Here's a quick introduction to some of the characters here:

AtomicMoose - The moderator. He's cool, and posts almost as much as anyone else. Has a tendency to draw threads off-topic.
KodiakStar (K*) & marty9876 (mary) - Watch out for these two. Tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum. They have a tendency to draw threads off-topic and into that black hole known as "locked threads".
unhappy_mage - The local Linux guru. The guy's amazing.
Viper87227, p[H]antom, Duster, Aratech, chileman, clean_me, BakedOn, sandmanx, and a bunch of others - Normal people! It's hard to notice that there actually ARE normal people around, what with all you'll read from K* and mary.
Rich_Tate, Spectre, Lethal - More moderators! I think we have a higher moderator/member ratio than any other subforum here. They're cool, too, especially Rich, who pimps us on the front page.

Welcome to the team!

And as for the normal part.... I wouldn't go so far as to say that, we're just as crazy only in a non-threatening way! ;)

Rich actually isn't a mod, he's just the news guy trying to do his part for the cause :D

Otherwise I'd say a very accurate rundown. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, or PM :)

It can take a bit for your stats to show, but don't fret, they'll be there.
I think mine took about a day to show up.

Yeah don't worry if it takes a few hours maybe a day or two. They will make it.

The rough estimation is about 6 hours, and you'll have a page that will contain your stats.

Here is how to get your [H]'s once your stats have been processed. :D

There are some tips/information about picking which page you'd like to use at the bottom of the page.

Aww, only 69 points for the first work unit, I've got a lot of catching up to do.
*Thinks wishfully of an x2 4800*

Ya, those numbers become the center of your life in the start of your folding career. :D
It's really addictive, and fun for a great cause. Read up on that FAQ and learn what borging means, you'll have numbers in no time. But remember, only borg with permission.

Ah the signs of the newly converted! :D

But you must set loftier goals, maybe a 4 way Dual Core Opteron box, or dual LV Xeons! ;)

Yes yes. Feel the signs of the force my son.

Just wait till you get your first 600 pointer. We can have an all night party waiting for it to dump on IRC

BTW don't forget EMIII

Ohhh. I made it into the normal group, right at the end before 'a bunch of others!' It's also the same day I hit 500K points. My folding career is starting to really take off today. :D

Speak for yourself. I'm crazy in just about every way possible.

btw, Welcome aboard matey.

If you smell anything funny... offer a mirror and a klenex to one of the "normal" guys... they might have something to wipe off their noses ;)

That is friggin great, especially coming from you :D

I've always liked that quote. It was in referance to WW II regarding tank production. Crap tanks, but lots of them.

I thought it was fitting regarding me a Celerons...and crappers I guess.

Welcome ! But I may be in the wrong place , because I thought Marty was normal and I had found a home .......:D

I find it VERY hard to believe that the page count ++ by 3 in a minute...

the most we got was 6 posts in one page... and there are what.. 20 replies per page?

must of had a broken clock in her house.. err... in the mods house

Page view can be changed by each person....

Ha! I use 40 replies per page. I wish the software allowed for more, I hate moving through tons of pages in a thread.

As far as 3 pages per minute, it used to happen with the original gen may on this board. That place was insane. In 30 seconds, a thread could be off the front page listings.

I think said mod sits in a different frame of reference then from what most of us are in on this forum. so for one min to pass to said mod and a few mins to pass to the rest of the DC forum said mods house must be moving close to the speed of light there for is having some time dilation problems.

Now taking some ruff times I figure that said mod is traviling about .99c were c is the speed of light. This is assumeing 20 post ber page with an average time for posting 60 post to be about 40 mins. then a little algebra it

t' = t [ 1 - (V^2/C^2) ] ^ (1/2)

were
t = time passed on DC forum
t' = time passed for said mod
V = speed of mod
C = speed of light

General Relativity and quantum mechanics are somewhat easy

Women are hard. I don't think anyone we ever figure out how that stuff works, of course they might get closer to understanding women when/if we figure out string theory

By my math, on ti-89:
solve(1=40(1-(v^2/(299792458^2)))^.5,v)
v is 149896229*sqrt(1599)/20, or about 2.99699e8 meters/s. This is about 0.99968745c. That's pretty fast.

Yes, I am a geek. But I didn't have that equation in my handy-dandy little device, it's added now :D

Edit: If you wrap your mind around a woman, you're going about it wrong ;)
