i've had it recommended to me by Kailon, Xice, et al. for passive systems...ain't no way on earth i'm going to spend 50.00 on that stuff...

Okay, so this post is a bit late when compared to the one before it. For those still checking this out, I found the following blurb at www.fluidxp.com

I'm thinking about getting some. I've found it at various etailers for as low as $29.99. Anyone found it for even less?
 
Although it's not safe for your blocks; because of corrosion and as soon as those ions are in the water it's conductive again. Then you add something like ethyl glycol or other antifreeze like compounds to take care of the corrosion and organism problems and you end up with a poisinous cooling loop also that doesn't work as well as pure water. Honistly if this stuff would just be priced at a reasonable level it'd be the best coolant choice bar none. Environmentally safe, non-toxic, non-conductive, non-corrosive, long lasting, nearly identical thermal properties to water and supposedly it's also a super low viscosity lubricant that prolongs the life of your pumps. The more I read the more I'm amazed. Thermal propertied of water with no drawbacks, but the price.
 
I read a couple threads here where a guy had severe corrosion after six months of fluid xp. Also heard horror stories on other sites. I would check into this deeper before I purchased this stuff.

I was giong to get fluid XP, and heard the same storries. Stay faaar away from FXP+. Nothing beats distilled water and a bit of Zerex.
 
Do you have any links? It's not that I don't believe you, but I havn't seen them. None of the reviews I read had any sort of long term testing and having some first hand accounts of horror would help.

that was me... it totaled my polarflo tt cpu block... i bought a copper tt and polarflo exchanged my old block for a vga block :D Im using hydrx for 5 months and it looks the same as when i first mixed it! Fluid xp looked cloudy after 1 month!!

It looked so good in reviews. thanks for the heads up. I'll stear clear of that stuff and it's large price tag.
 
Just for the record, even tho you made up your mind, there was a site that did some tests, wish I could find it, but they just took a PSU with two fans attached. They put in 1 fan, and it made them both act really odd. they put in both, and they got even worse, then they put the whole PSU in, and it died. Non-conductive my ass.
 
distilled water...

ill never pay for this stuff. the only liquid id pay for is that flourinert stuff if i was doing a submersion system.
 
Well the first time I saw this there was some guy trying to sell this stuff up at the Pomona Computer swapmeet (EXPO). I remember them running a MB submerged in the stuff and while it was in the afternoon he claimed to have been running like that all day. That was kind of like a circus stunt to me and I just went off to find my other booty for the day. I'm hoping next time I go there I will see the same guy as he was also drinking the stuff inbetween bites of his sandwich :eek: I think a [H] video taped experiment is in order. I know Sharka Corp sells this stuff so I think I can talk him into doing a little experiment with a bottle of the stuff.

So what do you guys think would be a reasonable proof? What should we try do to prove or disprove this manufacturer's claims? I was thinking of hooking up a MB and PSU in a big plastic container running some program like Windoze so we can monitor system stats while the experiment is in progress. And pour this stuff directly into the PSU and all over the motherboard.

Time tells all tales. The test should last as long as the components do.
