Is there a tool out there that you can use to flash the 7970 with the prefer clocks once you figured it out via software oc?

I hate all the software that launches upon start up just to modify the card's clocks.
 
How far are you overclocking your 7970?

If you are at stock voltages, it may be simpler to use CCC.
 
When I read this topic title I was oh so hoping someoflashed somehow managed to flash their 7970 to unlock the extra shaders.

I'm beyond CCC limits already, 1170 core /1650 memory on stock voltage.

I'm asking because once I find the highest clock I can go on stock clocks, I want to flash it to the main bios.
 
I've flashed my bios on my XFX Black Edition 7970 to the Asus bios using the instructions HERE

GPU-Z is showing the Asus bios, along with the driver version that is showing on his, but the ASUS tweak utility is still showing max on core is 1125Mhz.

This is my first time flashing a card and I'm stuck for now trying to up the clocks. I'm not sure if it is because mine is the Black Edition pre-OC'd.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
try Afterburner instead ASUS Tweak, it goes up a bit higher i believe

Tried Afterburner as well. Same thing. Sliders only go to 1125/1575, which is the same as in CCC. I can change the voltage, but not higher clocks. ::shrug::

Started minor artifacting at 1250/1725, dropping down to 1225 fixed this problem. Memory ran stable at 1900mhz!

Looks like I hit a wall. I'm stopping for now. Not bad scores for a single card solution.

Yes...i've been here one day! :rolleyes:

Stable today...artifacts tomorrow...I wouldn't commit an overclock to a BIOS. Just do it yourself. At least if you see trace artifacts you can back-it off before you do permanent damage.

It'll be your $600 dollar pot roast when you try to bake it back to life. Maybe you can wrap it in bacon and post it in gen may.
 
i dont see vcore numbers...have you tried bumping the voltage up?

c'mon man, not to hate, but if he wants to flash the BIOS (Like many people on here do), let him. I sincerely doubt it will just quit one day- he'll see artifacts, back it up, and RMA it

Your being kind of difficult and wrong all at the same time. Want to tell him not to overclock it, well go ahead, but its not going to get a lot of traction here. He wasn't asking people whether or not he should overclock it.

But and here is where you are going way off base, why is it an issue if he is overclocking it from a software app or flashing the OC to the BIOS? If he is running at the same speed either way then there is no difference and the BIOS, unless you didn't know it, it has a switch which takes it back to a hard set default setting.

You'd shit a brick if you saw my boat's gas bill w/ 600 gallons @ 4 bucks a gallon at the fuel docks.

Back onto topic, Is possible to dump the stock sapphire bios out, mod the bios then flash it back?

What I'm trying to do is basically emulate a factory O/C w/o paying the factory o/c price.

It's comments like this that piss me off. You don't warranty an item YOU FRIED because you wanted "MORE POWER". That's deceitful and fraudulent to the company. Thatd be like buying a new car, slapping NOS on it blowing the engine and asking the warranty to pay for it. It's wrong, and dishonest. Thanks for contributing to our nations ignorance.

I don't see why not, that's exactly what many do to avoid having to deal with software OC.
 
OK.. so how do you save the original BIOS now? IIRC I used GPUZ to save my original on my 6950. GPUZ now says "BIOS reading not supported on this device"??

Sapphire Trixx has an option for that but I haven't used it yet.
 
Gah.. well I finally got GPU-Z to save the factory BIOS. Now ATIwinflash is telling me that there are no valid adapters when I try to unlock the BIOS or flash it. It does not see either card. Wonder if I need to pull one and flash one at a time. :confused:

if i remember correctly, the 6900s had to be flashed one at a time as well...
 
I have the ASUS card. Whats so special about it and what can i do to make it better? :p
 
I would considering flashing the XFX bios just to increase the fan speed ramp up, thats about it.
 
Use the DOS version of ATIflash to flash the bios in DOS mode with a usb flash drive. Not atiwinflash. Not sure what the latest version is, but should work fine.

You have to edit the ini file to enable unofficial overclocking limits in Afterburner.

I was just about to do just that until I got ATIWinflash working.
 
Hmmm I want to flash all 3 of mine with the Asus Bios. Should I do it one card at a time?

You don't need to as the backup BIOS makes it nearly impossible to brick it with a BIOS flash. All you need to to is replace the 0 at the end of the flash command string after flashing the first card with a 1, then a 2. That said, I did mine one at a time anyway. :D
