I miss the days computers looked like computers, and didn't have windows, color schemes, LED's and junk like that.

I still love to build computers in that line, some ppl call me retro builder for that, in fact my case is no light or leds, just a big case pretty organized all black xD... Btw.. I miss the days when you could go a pc store and buy a computer without think that in few months will be a new tecnology much stronger U_U...

Ah btw with the topic. I still have some TNT riva and Riva 2 cards, a couple of vodoo too.. X'D.. Yes i have a big cementery of old junk... Full of 1GB HDD, and 4mb ram modules xD...

I do not miss beige cases

Uhh, that's like, today, you know the time when a chip released 2+ years ago is still considered high end. Back in the days we're talking here CPU speed literally doubled every 18-24 months, not ~10% in the same time like it is today. You know when a Pentium was released at 66MHz March 1993 then hit 200MHz by June 1995 only to have the Pentium 2 come out at 300MHz in May 1996. That's almost a 5 fold MHz increase in just over 3 years not to mention the architectural improvements! People on these forums with SB chips are saying they might not even upgrade to Haswell 2 generations later!

So...
- Paint your case beige (make sure it doesn't have a window)
- Cut all the sleeving off your PSU cables and let 'em hang loose
- Replace the 4+ Heat-Pipe monstronsity HSF (or water block) with the stock cooler
- Cover all LEDs with electrical tape

Meh, I always wind up loving my enterprise gear more than my consumer stuff.

The engineer in me tells me this is because of all the features (and that IS a large part of it) but I am also drawn to the more serious industrial design aesthetic.

It drove me absolutely crazy when they started printing cartoon pictures of women in fantasy gear or other characters on the labels of some video cards.
