The guy behind the Spirit untethered jailbreak tool for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has managed to run Flash content on the iPad. It uses a port of Adobe Flash runtime for the Anroid using a compatibility layer.

Frash is a port of the Adobe Flash runtime for Android to the iPhone, using a compatibility layer, by comex ( http://twitter.com/comex ). Frash can currently run most Flash programs natively in the MobileSafari browser. Frash currently only runs on the iPad, but support for other devices (3GS+ only due to technical restrictions) is planned, as well as support for iOS 4

Now why would you spoil a perfectly good device with garbage like Flash?

So maybe these devices will finally live up to what Apple claims them to be capable of.

Anybody else remember this commercial from Apple?

Apple said:
This is not a watered down version of the internet...
Or the "mobile" version of the internet...
Or the "Kinda-sorta looks like the internet," internet...
It's just, the internet...on your phone.

Sorry Apple, but the internet isn't the internet without Flash.

Whats funny about that commercial is that the DOW is tanking when that commercial is running....

With Flash, the Apple products don't look like pieces of junk after all

Luckily the Andrioid devices that are cheaper will get version 2.2 starting in the next few weeks (damn you Verizon!) until then the iPad is better for browsing unless you have a GoogleN1

Steve Jobs better send this guy a thank you card because right now they have an exclusive feature, and the fact that Apple won't support it themselves means this guy is the only one making the iOS4 a true full feature mobile operating system

+1

steve jobs is doing exactly what he did before he got fired the last time..

a great product being destroyed by a meglomaniac.. sigh..

simply add flash and its done, there is nothing that has come to outdo flash yet.. everyone is used to it and its all over the net..sort of like apple is ahead in some areas and falls behind badly in others..

i was gonna get me an iphone, not so sure now..

Plain text is very difficult to translate into sarcasm. Use the sarcasm mark.

And Apple now has more reasons to make jailbreaking harder to do. :(

Hahahahaha Frash, great name

RIght??? Nice play on the Engrish...

But isn't this what Apple always does? Hinder the product and decide later on to add a feature, so the customer perceives it as a free upgrade? It's amazing how much control they have over their user base. Stevie says no flash, because it's "not a big deal," and then all macolytes just say OK to that and buy it anyways because it's so pretty. Lols.

:D

Because even though everyone bitching about Flash can try and use the ostrich method to make it go away, the fact remains that a huge portion of the intarwebs still uses it and there isn't a widely accepted viable alternative yet. Someday that will be HTML5, but it's not ready yet, and even when it is we'll still have a good while after that where we go through the transition period where HTML5 has to slowly replace the content that's already out there. Flash is going to be necessary for a few years yet, and Steve Jobs is a fucking idiot to let his ego stand in the way of common sense.

What he said. Also HTML has the issue of different browsers rending it differently. Flash at least seems to work across platforms. Really don't like flash and adobes shitty support for it but hell it is needed as of now.

see hackers should work for Apple, doing something they can't even implement. I do agree Flash should be supported (so long Adobe fixes all their security hole). I also agree that Apple should have come up with a wrist strap behind the apple so you can insert your hand and easily walk around the house with the ipad without droping it. Also should have include a pen that can be attach to a side somewhere, so artist can do some sketch using a pen instead of fingers. I go on and on of ideas they should have included.

Mmm can't edit my own post, I find I make lots of mistakes and usually need to edit it.

Herro. Would you like Frash on your iPad?

It would be better if garbage like Flash went away all together, but unfortunately web developers seem to be a fickle bunch that like useless eye candy, so it's here to stay. The second best option is to enable it on devices.

IMHO web design guidelines ought to state that no
Plutin should be required in order to perform the basic functions of a webpage. Plutons are fine for optional stuff, but just showing a "this website is designed for flash" screen instead is just really poor website design.

Flash is the feature of the Internet so when HTML 5 comes in, how can you created interactive games and animation cartoon like flash does?

IMHO, the Internet would be a better place without these things. :p

It would have cost as much as a Macbook Pro with all those features. But, rest assured, the next model that goes on sale next year will have the wrist strap and it will only cost as much as the current one. And the model the following year will have the pen, and to will only cost as much as the current so if you buy upgrade to the newer one each year you can see you would actually save a ton of money.
