Ok so Im new at this...I dont know what gave it away. But Im lookin at getting watercooling, probably within the next year or so and I would like ideas as for pricerange, and performance range. I have an OpterOWN 146 right now, YE, and Im maxed at 2.8 (Due to board and RAM) stable, but temp hasnt broken 54 (which is kinda hot). Now Im looking at dangerDen's stuff since I heard they are the best.

Heres what Ive come up with:
CPU Block:
Silver TDX Block for Athlon64 & Opteron 754/939/940

SLI Solution:
The Danger Den SLI Solution using two NV-78's

Pump:
12V DD-D5 Pump

Radiator:
Black Ice Pro III Radiator

Res:
I prefer not to have too much hanging off my comp, so I like the idea of this:
Single 5 1/4 Bay reservoir

Tubing:
UV Tubing...to look cool

Total comes to $544...around what I expected. Now, is this stuff good or is there better? Thanks. What do you guys suggest?

The silver TDX is wasted silver, you'd be better off saving a lot and getting a Swiftech Storm if you wanted the best commercial block you cna get right now, or just a regular TDX. The TDX isn't really designed to benefit from the already slim advantages silver has over copper, Cathar knows a lot more about silver blocks though.

If you really want the look of the NV-78s, then you could go for them, but if you wanted lower core temperatures with less flow restriction and a much lower cost, then you'd be fine with a pair of Maze4 gpus or Swiftech MCW-55s along with a couple sets of ramsinks (watercooling gpu memory is pretty wasteful, ramsinks + a little case airflow will cool the ram just fine.

I'd recommend Voyeurmods PrimoFlex UV reactive tubing (scroll down a bit), much cheaper than DD's.

You can easily save a couple hundred dollars by not getting the silver TDX and getting a different pair of gpu blocks, but it doesn't sound like you're trying to do this on a small budget ;)

If you like silver then how about an Aqua Computer Cuplex XT. If you use 3/8" barbs with your 1/2" ID system then Bio-Hazard just proved that it wouldn't cause any difference in your flow rates, to drop to a restrictive 3/8" device, that would affect your temps. Here is the thread in question. The fun starts about post # 7 and the part you really want to see is located about # 25. Here are some pics of my Silver XT:

Boy, you sure like twisting things around to fit your needs don't you.............
What I showed was a "1/2" Hose barb: .375" flow " not a 3/8" Hose barb: .281" flow. That along with the internal restriction WILL make a differance. So lets keep things in context please.
On top of that, the preformance of the Aqua Computer Cuplex XT has never been tested to any kind of standard....................
Just get the Storm block if you''re looking for top performance and don''t waste your time or money on un-proven bling.
And from what the OP said in the OP he's looking for max performance

just started browsing around the water cooling threads because I am about to go that route. I am going to guess top nurse works for aqua computer or something, every post I have seen from them says to get aqua computer :)

she might as well work for them.. if she got commissions she'd be uber rich by now

well i don't work for swiftech but i certainly pimp their stuff a lot. I've had an mcw5002 and now a 6002 and am debating getting a storm block. those things look sweet and perform well to boot. just make sure you get a good pump to push it (read: mcp655 or better)

She says that she doesn't work for them................. But she should hire on with them as a PR rep, she could make a ton of cash.

WTF? I have noticed the same thing. Has anyone ever seen TN's watercooled rigs? With all this wealth of watercooling knowledge she has I would expect her to have some bad ass gear..

Have a look at her "Feeding Frenzy" mod in the Worklogs section. I may not agree with her watercooling philosophy, but I cant argue that her setup looks pretty damned sweet...and pretty damned expensive.

Ok I found Swiftechs GPU block and its this correct?
MCW55.gif

As far as the MAZE4 goes, theres like 8 different models for GPU's. Can someone point me to the right one for the 7800 series? and for SLI? What about this one?

Thanks

Theres a couple models:
Here

you dont want the ones that cool the memory, the maze4's most recent revision has two modles, the low profile one i imagine is for sli setups but you wont get much for clearance over the ram, if you can fit it, get the normal one so you can sink all of your ram

<edit>you got the asus mobo, so yea you can fit it just fine</edit>
get this one instead http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=150&cat=48&page=1
and some ram sinks

Whats the difference between that one and the chrome, brass, peltier, and the regular non-acetel MAZE4GPu? What about swiftechs one?

brass, and crome is just bling, does nothing for performance, pretend the regular doesnt exist, it wont fit the 4 screw mounts

the swiftech block is nice, but considering im getting 46C load 38C idle on a 1.4v 6800 gt(ultra level of heat) WITH my prescott hammering the loop with 160 watts of heat, i would say your covered
when i ran my northwood 2.8b in the mobo i think i got 43C load with a bad TIM application that made it idle at 40C once i fixed the TIM it idled at like 36C and loaded at 40C

once i finaly get my dothan rig setup i can check back in with my temps if you want but its gonna be another week or two, ill be running p4 again for a while until my ct479/cpu arrives, first i need my p4c800-e and my memory to come back from rma...my p4c800-e arrives tomorrow

I redid my list and what do you think now:

CPU Block:
Swiftech Storm

GPU Block(s):
Acetel MAZE4GPU

Pump:
DD-D5

Reservoir:
5 1/4 Bay Reservoir

Radiator:
Undecided..Although I would like something I can put a 120mm or 2 fans on to get the hot air out fast.

Tubing was the Primoflex. Besides radiator, is there anything else missing? Total comes to around 230 w/out radiator. A lot less than 544 haha. If I add another GPU block, thatll be around 275 w/out radiator. What are recommendations for radiators and of the system I am choosing? Good points bad points?

you setup looks real nice now,

the dual 120 black ice is good, but i cool my rig with a heatercore, its cooling about 250~270 watts of heat just fine, you'd be all set with one as well, its really up to you, i belive the thermochill's are the best in the market but there about 2 inches thick iirc

http://www.voyeurmods.com/index.php?action=item&id=1051&prevaction=category&previd=2&prevstart=0

i suggest buying the rest of the stuff from them as well, there cheaper then dd and delivered faster then dd did for me

http://www.voyeurmods.com/index.php?action=item&id=989&prevaction=category&previd=2&prevstart=0
thats what i use, its really up to you you MUST get dual 120 tho imo

get the dual heater core, this is how i mounted mine:

a lot of people mount them on/under the top of the case, and others mount the radiator outside of the case

Ok you go from Res, to pump, then to gpu, then to CPU, then to where? back to res? Is that how all WC is supposed to go? the flow? Also you have the fans blowing over the radiator or sucking it into the case? How do you get fresh air to RAMs and chipset?

from pump to rad to res to cpu to gpu to pump

the cpu needs the coolest water possible, the gpu can take the cpus heat

i run TCCD, they dont need much cooling, additionaly there is enough air flow that the case doesnt really warm up anyhow

That is how all WC is supposed to flow? What is a good radiator to disappate the heat quickly?

DangerIsGo said:

most people do it that way, double heater core is plenty cooling for you, i use two antec tricool fans(there badass, quieter then a panaflo M1A, move same air)

you must remember my prescott outputs 160 watts of heat(preposterous for even a opteron) and my 6800(might as well say ultra) outputs lets say 90 watts, my rad stays cool to the touch, never gets warm unless i turn the fans down and try to game, then after about 5 hours it gets a little warm

And what if you want and SLI setup? Can the both GPu's take the CPUs heat? What approximate temps would I get with this setup from my sig? I mean I dont wanna put down 300+ and get like 5C i wanna get around 15-20C less. CPU is 54 load, I would like to see it around 30 or so load, GPU is 90 load, I would like to see that (those) 50 load.

Added: Which radiator is better:
Thermochill
or
HeaterCore

BTW, does Swiftech or any other company make any better products for WC than DD or is DD the best becuase no one really recommends the CPU block that DD has...just the ST Storm.

gpus are going way down, if you want the best cooling your going to need to get the thermochill, those are the best, but you also need fairly high speed fans to cool two 7800's no nexux's for you

Going way down? like what kinda temps would I see? And you just answered my question that I added in my last post. This setup will cost me 335 + tax / shipping. Id want 1/2 tubing and no 3/8 right?

Was kinda curious about this, the gpu runs alot hotter then the cpu though, at least the last couple generations of video cards.. my 7800gt idle is 47c approx. Where as my cpu under full load rarely makes it to 45. Seems the gpu could use more cooling... no?

you want your cpu hotter? GPU's can stand up to 90C, cpu's cannot, remember the stock cooling has them running at 70~90C

my 6800 ultra runs at 38C idle 46C full load thats with the damn prescott feeding it water thats like 3 degs hotter, a opteron wont be that hot

I will tell you in a week how much better the storm is.

If you want the MOST hardcore GPU cooler you can get, I'd suggest the Silverprop. Most reports say it's a couple of degrees better than the maze, and it's definately sexier.

It'll also cost you more, unless you get it used.

link.

haelduksf: you, yes you, the other canadian. you must post in here more often. i often feel that we are under-represented. we must unite and post. heh.......i live in guelph and go to school at university of waterloo. about an hour away from TO on the 401. you?

as for the OP: if you're gonig to make it hardcore, straight watercooled, and performance oriented, with a sane budget: thermochill PA120.2 rad, dangerder D5 pump/swiftech MCP655 pump (same pump, find the better deal), silverprop fusion cyclone fusion SL, a pair of roughly 30 db fans, and swiftech storm CPU block.

if you want to get something really good in a kit: swiftech apex, plus MCW55 waterblock with optional half inch barbs and a bit of added tubing.

if you really want to go killer, and throw prices to the wind (kind of like your original plan): thermochill PA120.3 rad, 3x yate loon 120mm fans, iwaki pump http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=IK1123, little river storm G5 or storm G7 http://www.employees.org/~slf/lrwb/ (whichever cathar is taking orders of, at this point), silverprop fusion SL block.

the new swiftech might very well outperform the silverprop, however it's new enough on the scene that i don't think that there is a definate verdict in on that one.

Nada, no way, no chance. Are we completely clear about that? I am a Registered Nurse that makes a decent amount of change that likes high end equipment that is well made and has superior capability blended with looks. I also recommend Koolance, Little River G7's (which I will be ordering a custom one soon), Colt firearms, Tele-Vue optics, and Nikon cameras. So are we all clear on my likes and dislikes?

okay....my fav. is the H&K briefcase mounted MP5.

it just has that "spy" appeal as far as i'm concerned.

i've never actually fired anything other than classic bolt action lee-enfield mark 3 full stock .303's, and air rifles. i'm not likely to use anything at all in the near future.

annoying thing is: i was a damn fine shot with the .303's, got the bull or the second ring on most every shot at 50 m, but that light little air rifle that i had to do my graded shooting with.....couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at 25 m.
