Is it smart using 3/8 Tubing? Where can I buy tubing? Did i make a smart choice with water cooling, since this is my first water cooling system? Please help me out what should I buy now? because I think I got everything except tubing which I am not sure what kind of 3/8 tubing to buy (brand), My case is a tj-07 perfect for water cooling. I got the coolant that came with koolance and some tubes which I think I will have to buy. Also do I need a thermal past and does it come with swiftech block.I never opened it
 
Use 1/2ID tubing for better flow, and possible better temps. The radiator you bought is the absolute best, and I dont think anyone will argue this. I haven't seen or heard about your pump, but personally I would have chose the LAING D5 series of pumps (native 1/2 barbs, and dead quite) Your rad will flow like a monster with 1/2 barbs as well. Setup you entire loop using 1/2 tubing. Which swiftech water block did you purchase? ApogeeGT??? Its an OK block, better then most, but not the best. The D-Tek FuZion in my opinion is the best, and not much more money. YES! you made the right choice going to water cooling. Air cooling of course is the easiest to setup, but the results are sometimes very depressing:p . With a good water loop, the results are not only impressive, and allow for a better "TEMP CONTROLLED" OC, but it looks amazing (of course depending on how much time you put into it) Go to www.shoppts.com for all you W/Cing needs.
 
Sorry I have to use what I got I gonna use Koolance pump and resv thats final. koolance in fact one of the best cooling companies and with their new nvidia black came out i feel stupid for buying danger-den that costs 30 dollars more and have the same performance.

The Danger Den block is far better block than the Koolance one...

Koolance is not known for good WC gear...
 
ammmmmmmmm yeah they are............. You cant judge koolance without even having it did you even try the integrated cases with koolance read some reviews........ I have the same pump and resv they use with lian li cases

Okok... Well...

You need a radiator with a LOW pressure drop since your pump probably isn't THAT far up to par (Do you know what kind it is? MCP355? I think that's the one...) I suggest the BIP Xflow with 3/8" barbs... It's got a lot of cooling power (a double rad cools my Conroe, GTS and NB in sig very well, I can't imagine what a triple one would do).

Also, are you using 2 8800GTX's in SLI or just 1? If you've only got one you could possibly use the radiator you linked initially (MCR320) without any ill effect.

3/8" tubing will be ok. Tubing size matters very little, it's your pump's head that matters most.

Also, there's the option to modify your pump, with some creative modding you could add Petras acetal attachment to really turn that little guy into a powerhouse.

hey man, i know you are tired of people telling u what to do and what not to, but Im pretty sure im not the only one thinking this so im just going to say it. A $5 hdd fan may be just as effective performance wise. Some people debate whether cooling ur HD is even worth it... $85 for that is pretty steep, I would definately reconsider man.. there are MANY more important things you shoud WC than your HD... CPU, GPU, NB/SB, ect.

Sorry I cant help you with your original question, and im not trying to be mean, I just hate to see anyone spend THAT much money to cool their hard drives.
 
3/8 ID will perform fine. Only when you get to 1/4 do you start to compromise flow rate in a noticeable way.

Primoflex or tygon are both good choices for tubing. Most important is to choose 1/8 wall thickness. Tubing with thinner walls will kink easily.

Nice aspect of a bay pump/res system is it reduces the number of tube runs in a system and tubing length is also a factor you want to minimize if possible. If you go with Primoflex (also called Primochill) type tube it can fit over most 1/2 barbs as well, due to its flexibility.

Sounds like you have the makings of a nice system. Great rad, and the pump Koolance have used is one commonly recommended these days.

People are trying to save you money and specially guiding you towards the better product. You should be listening carefully and thanking them for their opinion, instead of making comments like that.

Sounds like you're looking for advice, but don't like the responses and comments that have been thrown out. (some may have been a little insensitive)

You realize, this is a PUBLIC forum, and people will have similar as well as differing ideas than what you expect.

You are getting "opinions" from people who are already watercooling their systems and have made (maybe not) some of the same mistakes you are making.

I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling chastized by some of the posts in this thread, but you started this thread and asked for help...

Some have answered your first question (indirectly), but you didn't like their answers... or maybe it was the way the answers were given. But honestly.... when dealing with people on the internet, you have to develop a thinker hide (skin). People are more than willing to make fun of someone annonymously, than they are to your face.

Maybe you should have started this thread BEFORE you made any purchases.... but since you're doing it "your way", don't get too upset with some of the very opinionated comments others may make.

I'm in agreement with some (most) others when I see what you paid for a pump/reservoir combo... $245.00, is a LOT of money for those 2 components (integrated or not). Watercooling a HD is also something most people won't consider. Unless your case has VERY poor airflow around your drives (not likely with a TJ07), you're wasting your money.

All these opinions are coming from your fellow watercooling enthusiasts and all we want is for you to "consider" our advice, no need to take it as gospel. Why ask for opinions if you've already made up your mind?

I wish you much luck with your watercooling project, I hope it turns out the way you hoped it would. I hope it keeps your system cool (so you can overclock the hell out of it) and quiet. Best of luck to you.

You came here to ask our opinion, do not berate us when we do. For the same price you could have gotten a better pump, res, rad and block, you probably could have gotten the tubing also.
If you going for something you can pretty much just slap in, then you're right on the money, if your looking for any kind of performance, then your not.

Anyways, I agree with NordicRX8, ditch the HD cooler its pretty much useless, it would also restrict you pump even more. You will probably be hard pressed to cool much much more then your CPU and your single 8800GTX's, I doubt that you will be able to cool two of them and your CPU effectively, due to restriction issues. But then again you can throw another $265 at Koolance and get a second RP-1000BK and use that to run a second loop just for the 8800's.

Alternately what might help you out is see if a modded top like this DDC-2 Top will fit in the enclosure (might take some modding), it will drastically improve that pumps output.

koolance is a decent water cooling name, i had their origional EXOS kit and it performed well for 2 years. i still cant imagine why they dont have cooling soloutions in popular 1/2" size, they were stuck at 1/4" for the longest time and are JUST getting into the 3/8" size. koolance is not "high end" by any means, and if you paid $250 for a 3/8" native 100gph res and pump you were panhandled my friend. im not saying it is a bad setup at all, its much better then air cooling, but for 250 clams you could have bought: (approximately)
D5 pump $50 (1/2" 300+gph)
CPU block $50
home depot tubing $5
or tygon tubing $40
resevoir $30-50
chipset block $40
etc

sorry to burst your bubble, but did you keep your reciept? xoxide takes returns i believe

You could have easily have gone the Swiftech MCP655 + T-line or MCRES-Micro route however. Those in combination would have cost you no more than $80 and you would receive MUCH better performance and flow rates.

Another Comment about how the product receive MUCH better performance. Please tell how did you get to that conclusion? Did you ever try the koolance pump that I have? Everybody complains here about their price but I bet no one actually tried it......................... thats why I get frustrated with bogus comments.

I might agree but People but I Western Digital raptor that runs 10.000RPM not a regular hard drive thats runs 72000pm. Don't you think 10.000RPM will run Hot? Besides that If I bought liquid Cooling Why souldn't I do it?

i no longer have my exos so i cant post screenshots of temp differences, but you can just see the flow rate of 1/4" and 3/8"systems, its a little trickle of water from the end of the tube, the 3/8 isnt too bad though, but then when you look at the pressure coming out of my D5 making a tornado in the resevoir, you can see the difference. and if you run a side by side of 2 identicle systems you would see the temp difference, and it would be very noticable on a bleeding edge system

i wouldnt say what you have is crap at all. that would be a great pump/res combo for about 50-80 bucks. maybe add $20 for all the pretty LEDs and temp probe on the front pannel. but when you try to charge 250 for that? thats when people get angry and say you got ripped off, and thats exactly what koolance is doing- ripping people off. i bet that cost $10-15 in materials and maybe $15 in R&D to make. at a 50% profit thats $60 wholesale, then online e-tailers make another 20-30% making the msrp around $90-100 which is where it should be.

Um, as long as you have decent air flow in your case I dont think you should have a problem. I have a 10k raptor and 7.2k seagate and have never had any problems with them. At MOST id buy something such as This. It is cool and fun to watercool your rig, but honestly for $80 i wouldnt even consider watercooling my raptor drive. Really not worth it. But hey, if you want to spend that much money and watercool your hd, than thats fine. Im not telling you not to, im just letting you know my opinion, and what i would do in your situation. If i were you i would WC my cpu, gpu, nb/sb, and spend the extra money you have on better blocks and such. Also the more you watercool, the bigger rad you need as well as the harder its going to be to get your loop nice. Just some things to be aware of...
 
I'm a system builder for the 70000 students on my Campus (Go University of Toronto, sigh) I've used almost every water cooling kit and piece that I can (affordibly) get my hands on. I build systems with either AMD X2's or Conroe setups, with 7900, 8800GTS or GTX's (and the R600s soon). Therefore, I've used almost every current water cooling piece available. So, yeah... I HAVE used lots of different things... I've used all the oldschool Koolance blocks, the RAM coolers (which leak) the HD block and some newer CPU blocks. The Exos kit was "OK" (it's great when it goes on sale for about 120$ sometimes) but other than the 8800GTS block, Koolance stuff just isn't generally up to snuff (having said this, they make alot of cool low-flow stuff... The 4 tube manifold is really awesome, and their Vreg blocks are very well made). I've stopped reviewing their stuff because they REFUSE to change their waterblock internals... They make the outside prettier... make some channels deeper etc. They don't even try new things (like the well proven double impingement system Ala Fuzion, or the crisscross pattern ala Storm), same old same old.

That pump will be fine for a double rad and a single GPU block alongside a CPU block. It's not a bad pump/res, it's just overpriced for what it is. Don't think you got some POS. The waterblock called the Fuzion has such a low pressure drop, that it would be much better than the competition in your setup. I suggest it.

Don't waste your time on watercooling the HD. Why? Well, the blocks don't really do anything unless they touch the bottom PCB on the drive... Also, they're generally restrictive and unneeded! Also, the only harddrive that's ever died on me (250gb Maxtor Diamondmax 10) was from a HD cooler leaking. I had to buy another identical drive and swap the PCB on it to get all my testing data back. That wasn't fun.

My raptor (ADFD) idles cooler than my Seagate 500gb drives... and loads about the same.

29c idle is an amazing temperature for a drive with no airflow (it's behind my MDVA from Mashie). 48'c load is well below the manufacturer's specification of 55'c.

edit-thanks, once i get my RMAd vid card back (still waiting :mad:) i have a lot to do. downloading diagnostic progs is my first, and then OC.

Depends. I either use Speedfan to check drives with covered PCB's (ones where the chip faces aren't visible) and collaborate the temperature by measuring the back of the PCB with my thermohawk IR temp probe. The PCB is generally 10c lower than the internal chip die junction, so adding 10c to my measured temp gets me fairly accurate results (well, they coincide with Speedfan at least)

I also have a licence for HD temp mon pro (Linky) But it's not free, so I don't recommend it. It's reports are 1-2c off of speedfan's.

I think it is a great choice for people that dont have time/experience designing and constructing their own custom systems.
I will also admit that my first watercooling setup was a Koolance too, about 4-5 years ago. I never had any problem with it, except that Koolance fluid is pretty bad...

joecop120 was justifying your purchase of an expensive pump/res (again, just because its expensive, doesnt mean its bad for you or anything). You need to not take things people say on this forum so seriously. Relax and have fun with water cooling, its a blast:cool: (after its all finished) :p
 
Ok about your worry if going with 3/8 tubing is going to cause temp problems, the answer is no. In Nov when I bought my new LianLI case I did a little test of my own. I first set my system up using the MCP655 pump and 1/2 tubing. Then a month later I drained the system and reset it up with the MCP355 pump and 3/8 tubing. The temp didn't change.

In the last year, since I initially set up this system, there have only been 2 things that have brought my temps down.
The 1st was to get rid of the MCR220 radiator and went with 2 coolrad 12T radiators. One radiator after the cpu and one after the 2 gpus.
The 2nd was switching out the swiftech mcres for a danger den dual 5.25 bay reservoir
I had also switched out the apogee cpu block for an apogee gt cpu block. It only dropped the cpu temp by 1 deg C. Really wasn't worth the cost

On Friday I ordered the Dtek fuzion cpu block and their fluidxp coolant. Hopefully by the end of next weekend I will be able to post on any temp changes. I have always used water wetter in my wc systems. I am hoping that Dtek fluidxp works just as good. If it does will order some more and put it in my other computer wc loop.

That's what I've said all along. It's not a BAD setup, it was just expensive...

3/8" tubing will NOT HURT YOUR TEMPS AT ALL. INFACT, I'm considering buying a 3/8" setup for my HTPC setup as te tubes are so much easier to route!

The Dtek Fuzion would be your best friend! It's got a low pressure drop so it helps with that pump. It's also the best block out these days... I got one in and my temps dropped 6'c (From a thin-lapped TDX).

There's alot of flaming in this thread. Flaming a product is something, but flaming the user IMO, is unacceptable.
