Do you guys think this should be allowed. Let 10 people send payment and then 9 people wait a week for refund? Seems sleazy and possibly something a scammer would do. I think it just happen to me, i forgot to check msgs yesterday guy sent me his paypal info to send payment to, then today i look (last night asks if going to send payment so i sent it first thing this morning check thread doesnt say sold but he changed thread to list paypal info and first to send payment gets it. (doesnt even say sold or not)

I got enough money to wait for a refund but it is frustrating that people would do this.

kinda goes against the etiquette if you will... but i dont think there is a way to police it. however... that's why we have stuff like heatware, if you got so far as to sending payment then i think posting an eval is in the cards - let other buyers know about your experience

if i look up a person and see they have 5+ instances like what you have described then im not going to do business with them unless my payment is returned immediately. if i pay at 1am and the refund is back at 1:30am then ok, whatever...

but days or weeks of waiting? definitely no bueno
 
If someone is going to scam you then I hate to break it to you but what they write in their item descriptions means jack.

I am one of those "there are no dibs" sellers. Waaaayyyy too many people will waste your time for days while you watch actual paying buyers walk away. A serious buyer has money on the table. I've had to refund a few dup payments sure but they are instant and painless.

Money talks. Bullshit walks. It's as true on an internet forum as it is on the car lot.
 
A person should only send money when the seller agrees on a deal.
The first send money type of sale is ridiculous. Sending money without asking questions is even more stupid.
 
i think the reason the op is miffed is cause he's sent payment and the seller has updated the thread yet hasnt acknowledged the payment sent...

its one thing if the seller hasnt been online - maybe he hasnt checked his email or whatever to see the payment, but if you have been online since ive sent you a payment and you havent made any notification of it then we have a problem...

i dont think there should be dibs / but communication is key...

refunds are not INSTANT, they take 3-5 business days. and that might be as long 6 days. So there is no INSTANT refund.

Ok i stand corrected, I wondered if there was some way it would be returned instantly, I dont keep balance in my paypal account and always transfer so maybe it is INSTANT for others

itt's instant if your payment was sent using paypal balance
but if it's through bank , then 3-5 days

i do agree that the notion of whoever send payment first is dumb.
but there is too many flakers around here that wasting sellers' time so it's can be understandable. Generally i tell the potential buyers whoever agree first get it and payment should be send within 1day; after that it's on the the next person.

I give people usually 2 days but I totally agree with you. :)
 
I don't give my paypal address in my FS threads. Prefer to wait for a PM, check out the potential buyers references because, hey, I might not want to sell to that person, and then when we agree on a deal I'll give them my paypal address so they can send money. Couldn't imagine letting people just send payment and then dealing with refunding all but one of them.

There are many flakers who will waste sellers time, but I've been pretty lucky in my 40+ transactions to have good traders who sent payment quickly once a deal was reached.

common sense, but not here to bash. If its too good to be true..it probably is..if you send money for a 'chance', he probably has a better defense to say you were buying a 'chance', most people on fleabay do this a lot with the advantage that they can realistically say no one won but keep using a fictional item to lure in more people to the 'game' if you will...
 
I tend to not keep a lot of money in my checking account, so it's kind of a problem for me to send money right away for big items. I usually ask sellers to give me 2-3 days so that I can transfer from my savings account to my checking account, at which point I send them payment (I have a separate banks for checking and savings).

But seriously, the whole notion of sending payment first is kind stupid. First, the seller is stupid (or a scammer). Second, anyone who falls for it is stupid, because you're not guaranteed to get your money back. Heatware and communication is key here though. Always check heatware.
 
while i'm against policing, i make it a point to not do business with sellers using this policy. i understand not wanting to fool around with dibs but that doesn't mean you must have a policy of accepting payment multiple times for an item and refunding all except one. i don't entertain dibs and i've never had a problem approving payment from one person and telling the others that the item is sold. if a major e-commerce site had a policy of accepting payment for items that are out of stock, the customer base would be furious.

the way i see it, if a seller isn't concerned about giving the buyer a pleasant transaction he probably isn't concerned about the buyer being satisfied with his product.

Not quite sure what you are babbling about here. I'm not sure what type of solid gold win you are selling but it is VERY rare to get two payments for 1 item. I certainly don't accept payments for items that are sold but I also am quick to mark them sold once so.

Again if someone is trying to scam you they'll write and say absolutely anything you want to get you to pay.

Comparing forum trades to a major website is just a bit dumb.

I think he was talking about people who list their paypal account on the for sale thread or inform everyone who pm them their paypal account that whoever send the money first will get it.

N then 3-4 people might send it in, and all but one will have to wait 3-5 days to get refund back
 
Communication would go a long way towards seeing that multiple people don't pay for the same item.

I myself do not promise an item to more than one person at a time..meaning, once we come to an agreement, I will give the buyer my PayPal info and let them know they have 24 hours to complete the payment, then the item goes back up for sale, or to the next person.

I have had more than a few tire kickers who promised payment then stopped communicating...and I still know who you are....:eek:

its aggravating, but I would rather do it that way that have multiple people paying for the same item....that's just me though.


My point is, all people trade differently, the more details you get worked out ahead of time, the less surprises there will be .

As a buyer, if you promise to pay, then pay..as a seller if you promise to sell to someone, then follow through.....if we all do this, there will be no problems and everyone can have a wonderful trade experience ....:D
