I am trying to install Windows XP 64bit Edition onto an AMD64 3200
and a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3200827AS.

I have yet to work with both a SATA drive and a 64bit CPU system.

I'm having a problem getting the installation to recognize the drive.
Using a floppy with device drivers on it for the SATA drive and I got
it to recognize it once during installation of Windows and got as far
as to select 64bit CPU over 32bit CPU but got "blue screen of death"
forcing me to start over.

On later attempts, I can't even get Windows installation to recognize
the device drivers on the floppy but I am using a different floppy drive
than before.

Still, If I can get windows to recognize the SATA and I can select
the 64bit CPU, whats to stop it from BlueScreening on me again?

Maybe it's the setting in the bios?

The Mobo & CPU:
MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H nForce3 250 Socket 754 and AMD64 3200.

I have tons of experience with 32bit and IDE but this shouldn't be that
much different and I mean that by way of installation and not how it
works.

Any help would be much appreciated.

tell me what the bios options are for the SATA in the bios, typically there are two of them, but I don't want to download the manual.

I think what you want is to run under native SATA in AHCI mode. That is the "real" SATA high performance setup and gives you NCQ. AHCI is contained as part of the raid drivers on Intel boards. If you load the raid drivers at F6 pre-install you get the AHCI driver you need. It is not required to run raid. This causes a lot of confusion, for AHCI you need to install the raid drivers even if you are not running raid. It sounds like you are on the right track. The thing about windows not recognizing the floppy is bad, on second attempt did you delete the partition the failed install was on and start new with a new partition and format ? If not do so.

To complicate matters the install utility for windows cant handle AHCI, its not built in so you have a "chicken or the egg" situation.

On the Intel side you set the SATA mode to "compatible" and the controller to IDE. Windows "sees" your drives as IDE type and should recognize them. Then at the F6 prompt feed it the AHCI/RAID pre-install driver at the beginning of windows install. That gets the needed device bios installed. Windows install continues and finishes. Then windows will want to reboot, when it does go into the bios and set the SATA mode to "native" and the controller to AHCI, when windows comes back up it will find new hardware and cancel that (well depends on the way your driver files are packaged, if they have there own installer, most do) and install the ACHI/raid "normal" drivers. Reboot and then install your other drivers for the motherboard and off you go.

The above is the way in general it is done on the Intel side, I have not messed with an AMD performance board in a long time so you will have to do some jargon translation.

I wonder if anybody here has this mobo?

In standard cmos setup the only thing recognized is the cd rom, cmos auto detects
and doesn't even see the sata drive.

It came with a mobo support cd but you have to have windows installed to use it.

I'm stuck in a catch 22.

I can't get winxp64 going because the sata's not recognized in bios, there is only to
lines to hook up to the sata so it really is a no brainer, how could you screw up the
drive install?

Anyway, theres two sata ports on the mobo "2" and "3" no "1", I have no clue why
the sata ports are called "2" and "3" instead of "1" and "2" and I get the same
results when the drive is plugged into either of them so I guess it doesn't matter?

Having a real hard time here trying to get this thing going, anybody have any clues
as to what I should do?
 
You need to have two SATA drives in order for windows to detect
RAID during installation of windows?

I have one SATA drive and the CMOS doesn't detect the drive.
CMOS only detects CD/DVD ROM and Floppy but not the single
SATA I have installed.

I installed an IDE HDD and then out of nowhere CMOS setup
opens two spaces that wasn't their before called
Third IDE Master (SATA1)
Fourth IDE Master (SATA2)
both were not there before I installed the IDE HDD.
Problem is, I have a SATA drive installed to Third IDE Master (SATA1)
and it's still not detected.

So I'm still stuck not being able to install Windows 64bit Edition.
Windows setup locks up at "Setup is loading files (Human Interface Parser)...
and hangs till I reset the system.

I have no idea what to do next.

Will having two SATA drives salve this issue?

Please I need HELP!

I guess nobody here has any clue, because nobody seems to be answering.

I've got one reply this whole time and that response didn't seem to have an
answer for AMD but only Intel.

I thought this site was one of the best on the net for these kinds of issues
related to PC's but so far not to many members seem to want to help out.

Members seem to have a lot to say about placing your PC on top of a glass
desktop but not much else when it comes to SATA & Win64 issues.

Thats a shame cause I really do like this site. :(
