Meh, looks good but its benched against 2 year old hardware, lol.

I believe it will change once Nvidia gets its butt in gear and releases their new video cards.

None of those cards are 2-years old lol. What do you believe will change and why do you believe that?

Well the numbers in the graphs are all i want to say/see and lets hope they are true.

monster of a card.

seems like the future 5870x2 will hit the walls of pciex16?

Dude it beats a 4870x2 and just rolls over the gtx 285. What more do you want? And those cards are NOT 2 year old tech.

Nice first results. And very likely performance will only increase when newer, optimized drivers are coming out in the future.

I'll take these results with a grain of salt though, but they do seem in line with initial expectations.

Well Hawkx is not really a good comparison against the nvidia cards, since the ati dx10.1 roll over them generally, but it is a good comparison between the 5870 and the 4870x2

5870 Destroys the GTX 285. And these are I assume on first gen ATI drivers. Can only get faster once drivers mature.

I'll take the vs nvidia benchmarks with a grain of salt just because the source is directly from AMD (not saying they're lying but I wouldn't put it past either company to exaggerate their numbers vs the competition).

I'm pretty impressed though that a single 5870 is walking all over a 4870x2.

LOl, those percent ones are useless and are always brought out.

% doesn't tell you anything important, give me raw min, max, average and preferably a histograph of the results so we can see how it really performs.

Nice graph, although the differences in performance in different games is quite noticable, considering the new specifications of the HD 5870. I have a feeling there is still a lot of power waiting to be unlocked with this card in future drivers.

100% FPS?

To put it simply, the GTX 285 is set as the 100% mark. And the 5870 red bar shows how much more it performs than the 285. There are some games/settings where the 5870 exceeds 200% performance of the 285, meaning it is pumping out over twice as many FPS.

I know but it is useles...we have all seen it before...every single launch.
"6 FPS is 200% more than 3 FPS!!!1!!!!"

Without resolution, settings and FPS NUMBERS, those graphs are not worth the pixels they ar made up of.

the one thing I think the graph is missing SEVERLY is the resolution. Without that it's just guessing real values.

So the 'bargain' 5850 part beats the $350 gtx 285 and the 5870 runs neck and neck with the $500 GTX 295? Can we say nvidia price cuts?

I remember during nVidia's 8800 high point, hearing about how 'doomed' Ati was. Heh heh. The cycle continues!

There will be added a chapter now though:
"AMD GPU users will suddenly praise GPU physics..."

Mark my words.

LOL... yeah.. most GTX285's get about 3fps:rolleyes: Lets say its getting 100fps ... and lets say the 5870 is 50% faster then that.... you get where I'm going with this? I also don't care for the whole "%" thing but at this point I will take what I can get!

3 FPS or 100 FPS...you guess is a good as mine...that is the problem.

Leaked slides:

-Interesting part is the instruction suitable for transcoding exposed via OpenCL, which means we will see OpenCL based transcoders instead of the current "stream" branded one. No wonder ATI aren't putting too much effort into it.
-Instead of SidePort we got crossfireX compositor?

5850 is still Cypress, Juniper would be the 5770 and its variants.

That pricing graph brings up some questions... $350 5870 and $250 5850, perhaps?

Current rumour puts 5850 core at 1440 SP so it's a different die though.

I'm guessing $380 for 5870. If it was $349 the slide leaked before would have said <$350 IMO.

Well, I have £600 put aside for the 5870 and a new monitor. Seriously can't wait for the card to atleast have official prices so I can go out and get a new monitor.

Yeah, but it could just be a 5870 with disabled/bad SP's. I highly doubt they would only release 1 card for now.

We have to wait until Q1 2010 for an HD-5K series low-profile card (Redwood)? That is at least 3.5 months away!!

Rats.
