First Crysis 3 Screenshots Revealed

Im not kidding (maybe a little)... but there was a reason you move like a turtle in the crysis 2. And you said couple of levels? There was one and it was the setup for the final boss fight. not even really a level just story crap then you went outside and blew up the big baddy. Every other level other than core had plenty of sandbox style areas to blow the hell out of everyone.

Oh so an hour (or more) long section of the game was just "story crap"

hurr

I just read the review. Its story is crappy. I was expecting the story to be as good as Original Crysis and Warhead. But its more like Crysis 2. Killing KPA soldiers and Aliens is fun.

Killing your own soldiers (CELL forces) is something I always dislike. They have changed the concept. Our real enemies are Ceph not CELL. After reading the plot it is clear that its the corrupt CELL corporation has a major role instead of aliens

Crytek has no idea what they are doing with the story anyway.

Crysis 1 - Nothing special, you wake up some ice aliens and bad shit happens. Vow to go back and totally finish them off. About as original as a Sci-Fi channel movie.

Crysis 2 - RETCON EVERYTHING. Hire sci-fi writer, have random flashes of good writing (Hargreave's speech) in new story and interleave it with dumb. LOL the aliens were with us the whole time... all over the world! Kicked their asses in NYC time to go globetrottin!

Crysis 3 - Never-mind back to NYC apparently. Gotta reuse whatever they can and add a bow so we can pretend it's Nano Rambo 3 (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

Is it even possible for these guys to make a game that's NOT in a jungle? 2 aside.

It's like they're obsessive compulsive about jungles and after 2 they looked like Sheldon Cooper trying to sit somewhere other than his spot. Oh god I can't deal with this! Who cares if it's the mdidle of the city, ADD JUNGLE!

Have their plots diverged from the same basic outline they've used for every game since Far Cry 1, yet?
yeah they should make an ingame game, with cover system ,that would be fun :D

Crysis 2 wasen't bad. But after playing original crysis and warhead I had too many expectations from Crysis 2 and was expecting its story to be a continuation. But when they changed the story, braught the controvarsy of CELL into thet picture, it disappointed everyone

The environments look nice... but they always do in pre-release shots... I just can't stand the character design, the suit especially, just looks so cheesy to me

Almost the entire rest of the game beginning with the zero-G level was just as linear as Crysis 2.

How they braught Prophet back to life for revange when he died in Crysis 2
I think the quotes around Prophet are important there. If you've played Crysis 2 it makes sense.

The Crysis series never really had a story. It's just a "bunch of random."

Crysis 2 was fun thanks to stealth.

Which was fine by me. The game started getting odd and uncomfortable by the time the story element began to come into focus.

Crysis's trademark was its open-endedness in the way you could approach combat situations in large areas. Whatever elements don't directly serve that end up being nothing more than a distraction.

It's totally their right to do so, but from the end user perspective it is kind of annoying. DLC is frequently on sale on Steam but EA never seems to put DLC on sale.

Really? I got the SPECACT kits from Origin on sale for BC2 and BF3, along with many other DLCs for other games.
Their sales combined with coupon codes are pretty good.

Ah. I stand corrected then. I guess I should say, nothing DLC-related I've ever wanted has been put on sale by EA. :)

The "max armor" was much better in 2 than 1, IMO.

Yes.... turtling around in max armor mode was a blast  plus it used energy but it's not like you had any good powers to use that energy on anyways. Why would you want to do that when you could just avoid the getting hit in the first place. The freedom of movement let you avoid getting shot in crysis 1 and made it 10x more fun. Just booted up crysis as a example.

I'm guessing this is from the VRay/3ds port of the console game? They look impressive. But moving in Max is so not intuitive to an FPS.

I thought max armor mode was fun to use on Delta (without using cloak at all for that matter). It was surprisingly durable enough to give me a few seconds to pick away at enemies before retreating.

This really doesn't work on Delta, where like 4 pistol shots alone will completely drain your energy. You'll just end up dead in 3 seconds if you just carelessly charge in... but I guess you can play on a low difficulty and pretend you jumping around like a lunatic totally helps enemies miss 90% of their shots.

You basically have to play as the predator to have success on delta, especially when fucking helicopters show up.

I hope C3 comes with th good textures instead an add-on 6 months later.

Works fine on delta with hit and run tactics and little bit of stealth/speed. Even ran into a invincible korean and managed to survive ;).

Also I didn't make the video to show my pro l33t xxxSkillZxx i made it to show how you could navigate the environments freely and in different ways instead of having both feet planted on the ground while being a straight forward shooter like the borefest C2 is. The change of pace is unbearable, to me C2 literally plays like every other console shooter on the market except it has even worse gameplay.

The far cry Instincts/Evolution are more of a true crysis game then C2. They consisted of more closed in levels like C2 but still managed to have some open parts where you could get creative to how you could get to the objective. They also had the strength jump/speed powers that crysis 2 lacked.

Saying Crysis 2 or Crysis 1 are better or worse than each other is very subjective as they were quite different games. I think Crysis 2's main fault that it was called Crysis 2 and so people were expecting a game like Crysis. Crysis 1 had more open environments, but that doesn't automatically make it better. I actually found myself more drawn into Crysis 2's gameplay than Crysis 1. I had no problem putting down Crysis 1 after a few minutes of gameplay if there was something more interesting to do, Crysis 2 actually kept me playing.

Personally I have enjoyed all the Crysis games, each one for it's different strengths, so I'm looking forward to Crysis 3.

WOW so Crysis 3 will FINALLY INCLUDE AA? Im still looking for it in Crysis 2.

It's automatically on, they use a post processing AA. It has an early version of FXAA and their own creation I think.

Go play with the console commands, it's something like r_PostAA

Crytek (along with Zaragoza University) created SMAA, and that's what is used now. Unfortunately it's an earlier version, so you'd get much better visual fidelity by using the latest injector.

A Crytek rendering guy might have been involved but it wasn't solely their creation. Also it's not even in the latest SDK.

Never said(or meant to imply) it was solely from Crytek. One of their employees(Tiago Sousa while working on the behalf of Crytek) along with several members of Zaragoza University(Jorge Jimenez, Jose I. Echevarria, and Diego Gutierrez) came up with it . I don't' know much of the SDK, but it is used for Crysis 2. The whitepaper from your link is very informative for anyone who wants more specific details.

They seem to have had a somewhat similar solution, though not entirely SMAA in its final incarnation. I'm guessing it eventually, with some other brainpower, grew into it.

They actually have a lot of neat articles, fun to see how some of the inner workings of the engine came to be and what platform had trouble here and there. http://www.crytek.com/cryengine/presentations

It seems like every sound effect in that trailer was stolen from the Star Wars pod racing scene.
