I would like some input for my first build its going to be built for gaming mostly starcraft 2 and diablo 3 when it comes out.

3) If you dont want to give your location can you at least tell us if you have a Fry's or Microcenter near by. That is the primary reason for that question since often there deals way surpass the nets.

4/5) HDD & Optical I assume will need to be included

7) Recommendations for the rest of the system will vary greatly depending on this answer since there is a huge difference hardware to run 720p & 1080p (or 1920x1200).

8) Sandy bridge is coming out in another week or so so if your not building for a few weeks you might want to repost later since our recommendations will vary based on street pricing & reviews of SB that we wont see for another week or so. However if your in a hurry you have the budget as it is to do a pretty decent system.

spider0011, if you can't take advantage of bastage's build today, come back and revisit this thread in a couple of weeks.

By then, Sandy Bridge should be out in full force and NewEgg should start offering some good combo deals that we could take advantage of.

The only component on your list that I would not recomend is the Antec 300 & thats simply that there are more roomy & easier to work in cases for the money.. The rest of what you picked out is fine for a gaming system, But you said

So I spec'd you the best system I could find for 1000 dollars.

So If you want a lower end system I can definitely redo the list & use most of the parts, But the Case (explained above), PSU (way more then needed, so no point on wasting money on it) and memory (not compatible with motherboard) wouldn't be used.
 
I recommend bastage's build, as it would be similar to what I would recommend for you.

You didn't have any bad parts in your build, but with the information that you gave us in your OP, you didn't have the best setup available for your budget. Plus, since you're not using a 1080p resolution, the video card and power supply were overkill for your needs.
 
Not really bad parts at all.. Just the cost doesn't justify the performance.. The only BIG issue I saw with what you listed is a DDR3 right with DDR2 memory spec'd.

To sum it up on a piece by piece basis here is why I recommended different parts. The x6 better performance then the x4 obviously, Motherboard has a newer higher end chipset, PSU is lower watage, but higher quality, Case has room for larger video cards as even the 6870 you spec'd would be pushing the power connectors inside of the drive bays of the antec 300 & lastly I spec'd the next step up in AMD graphics lineup as you had the budget to get the extra performance.

Memory wise I also spec'd 8gb DDR3 instead of 2gb of ddr2
 
Thanks for the help few more questions, i want to use a 24 inch monitor any recommendations, also why do you pick a samsung hd instead of western digital
 
The Samsung he picked is substantially faster than the Western Digital you had picked.

You want monitor recommendations? Or other part recommendations with a 24" monitor in mind? Bastage's current build would handle a 24" LCD just fine. I'll come back with a few monitor recommendations in a few minutes here.

What kind of budget for the display are you talking? Is color accuracy important to you? Will you be sitting directly in front of the display 99% of the time?

after getting home and looking at the build you posted, I have a few more questions. The cooler how hard is it to install, and the hard drive do you have any more recommendations? a few more bucks wont kill me lol.

Installation is pretty straight forward.

As for HDD recommendation, how much more you talking about. Beyond an f3 my recommendation would be a 2nd f3 or an SSD if your budget allowed.
 
No, you don't need a sound card, onboard sound has come a long way, unless you have a really nice set of speakers onboard sound will be just fine.
 
The ram in the OP's first post is DDR2, and the board he chose is DDR3. Just throwing it out there. No new build should be using DDR2 anymore.

The OP's processor is going to be a bit weak for gaming, unless it is overclocked. I suggest getting a Black Edition or a hex core, if you can spring for it. Also, 850w is overkill for that system, even with crossfire 6870's. Bump down to 650-700ish.

I have decided that im going to use a monitor instead of my tv.

How much cash do you have on hand right now? (I recommend that you buy as much as possible in as few "trips" as possible.)
 
monitor will be bought with build I do not have one because im using a laptop now.

$60 - Cooler Master HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 ATX Case

- Ditch the Caviar Black WD1002faex as this Samsung drive is just as fast yet is cheaper:
$70 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

- That PSU is stupid overkill for that setup. You'll be fine with a quality 650W or 750W for extra headroom.

Gonna wait with Tiraides as well on the recommending a full list.

+1. also consider the NZXT cases. You can certainly find nicer layouts, cable management, and features for the same price.
 
Guys, the OP mentioned in post #3 that he planned on using CrossFire. The question that I have is: What games are you playing that require CrossFire, now or in the future?
