I decided to finally build my own instead of just buying a new Dell. I will mainly use this computer for web development related stuff (CS4), along with school (Office), movies, music, and of course internet. I know it is overkill, but I might want to do some gaming. How does this list sound?

EVGA X58 SLI LE

i7 920

Crucial Ballistix Tracer 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 Memory (overpriced, I know, but I just love those LEDs!)

MSI N250GTS TwinFrozr 1G OC GeForce GTS 250

WD 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s (I decided against the 10k rpm HDD, $$$)

There's a sticky full of questions that would help us help you better if you answered them.

The GTS250 is basically shrunk down 9800GTX+. What type of games do you plan on playing and at what res/settings?

The WD 750GB drives use 250GB platters. Get a WD drive that uses 333GB platters (640GB or 1TB) instead, since they're faster due to higher platter density. Also, another good choice would be the Samsung F3 500GB or 1TB drives, which use 500GB-platters... also very fast.

Corsair TX 750W is a great PSU, but its overkill for your needs. A single GTS250 w/ i7 would run fine on a good quality 550W with room to spare.

If you live near a MC, the i7 920 is $200.

What's your budget? pls answer the rest of the questions in the sticky.

Thanks for the HDD info. Guess I'll change it to a 1T.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc Photoshop, web design, movies (avi to DVD), music, web browsing, school
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? $1k +/-
3) Where do you live? Wisconsin
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific. Parts listed above, minus the case, V8, monitors and PSU.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model. n/a
6) Will you be overclocking? Not at first, I might eventually
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have? 2 24", maybe a 3rd later
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? asap
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc. Easy and stable.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Yup, Windows7 64bit with my student discount.

The GTS 250 is a shitty buy at $145 + shipping. I'd recommend this significantly faster GPU for just $10 more with free shipping:
$155 - Sapphire 100283-2L Radeon HD 5770 1GB PCI-E Video Card

It should handle your res a bit better than the GTS 250.

RAM wise, I'd recommend this RAM instead:
$150 - G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM

You're not gonna notice an iota of performance difference between the Crucial and the above G.Skill.

You can get the Samsung Spinpoint FS enginurd mentioned, over at Ewiz for 76.49 and its 1TB... 84.99 - 10% coupon (Snowman10) = 76.49 +FS

Bummerz, shows as $89.99 for me. :( $80.99 w/ coupon applied... not bad, same price I paid at the egg when the drives were in stock. Thanks for the heads up!

But he likes the pretty lights!!!

Well, I did it. Here is my final and purchased list: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12433472

I got the case for Chirstmas, and immediately took it apart to prep for paint.

The rest of my parts should be here Mon and Tues. :D

Mondays....

UPS man came today, delivered most of my parts and a DOA ASUS 24" monitor. Back to Newegg it goes.

Got everything installed and seems to run great, except that I got an "upgrade" version of Windows7, so until I get the full version, which should be 2 days, I have a BIG paper weight.

Anyway, I did take a pic. Next time I will get a modular PSU.
