The main purposes of the box are low level engineering programs, Starcraft2, and video editing as a hobby. I'll be running running Windows 7 and possibly GNU/Linux. I have no plans to OC or really mod anything. Currently my budget is $1300, but could easily be bumped to $1500 if the benefits are substantial enough. From previous years I have a Sony DL DVD+-RW drive, and will be getting a 23" LCD from a friend.
Noise is not an issue.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, RAM, PSU, GPU, HD, Motherboard
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Case, Mouse/Keyboard, Monitor, Fan
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
this week
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, I have both a 64bit and a 32bit OSs (legit) in case one or the other doesn't work.
Here's my part list so far, this is my first build by myself but I do have some friends who are much more experienced than myself to answer questions and troubleshoot:
