Thanks

try the onboard sound first before you buy a sound card as the standards of onboard sound are much better than before.

The mobo + CPU is a great combo. Thanks.

In regards to the PSU + 5870 I did a lot of research for the PSU and I think I will stick with the one I selected originaly. Im in college now so I dont have much time, I will look in to this more when I get home.

Thanks

The XFX psu's are of great quality, right up there with antec, corsair and seasonic. And even better they are almost always paired with an XFX gpu.

The HX850 is a CWT.DSG, and the XFX850 is a Seasonic.M12D. Both models got a 9.6/10 ... you're good to go. :p

Newegg seems to have everything in stock and I think I'm almost ready to make my purchase. One thing that I steel need is an adapter for the S-video. My brother has his TV connected via S-Vide and his HDMI port is taken by his PS3. Since 5870 doesn't have the S-Video can someone suggest an adapter plz?

There's no such thing as a DVI to S-video adapter or HDMI to S-Video adapter. Your best bet would be a HDMI switch.

Zero reasons to get these sets as this G.Skill offers the same performance and overclock capability for $22 less each:
$150 - G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM

Thanks for the catch. Well to be honest we were not planing on any RAIDS I know my brother personally doesnt like raid-0 not sure how he feels about raid 1. But in the general perspective I think having 1.5TB drives that maybe someday can be raided would be a better Idea. It took me a while to find a good 7200rpm 1.5TB drive, any suggestions? Re3's any good?

In regards to RAM, im really in a loss, i just go by what people are telling, suggesting me. At the bottom of this thread you can see the guy and a bunch of others really vouching for Mushkin. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=344373&page=2

Yeah. I don't see anything in that thread that would change my mind about the Mushkin: still not worth it. That DOA RAM thread isn't exactly a comprehensive poll as this subforum has recommended G.Skill RAM numerous times and only a handful of those ever caused issues. Just search for "G.Skill" and you can see that the recommendations date really far back and very extensively.

Don't bother with RAID 5 if you're not gonna spring for a true hardware RAID card ($400+). RE3 drives are not a good buy unless you're trying to build an enterprise RAID server.

Currently, there are no suitable 1.5TB desktop (as opposed to "enterprise") hard drives for a RAID array. The WD Black drives have issues with TLER while the other desktop 1.5TB drives currently on the market are slow performers.

And RAID 1 requires two identical drives, and will reduce the total usable capacity by half (this means that a RAID 1 array with two 1.5TB hard drives will have a total usable capacity of only 1.5TB because the second 1.5TB hard drive will always be a mirror of the first drive).

RAID5 needs CPU power to calculate the parity bits when you're not using a dedicated hardware raid controller, which impedes performance.

Caviars have TLER disabled. RE3 drives are cost prohibitive. What home users were doing was using the TLER tool to enable TLER on drives that were used in RAID arrays to prevent them from being dropped by the RAID controller. However, many people are reporting issues with this unsupported method on newer drives.

Danny why is this drive not good for RAID's? I just looked an newegg review and lots of people use them in RAID's

The WD Blacks have TLER issues that make the RAID controller report the drives as "failed" even though they are still usable. And once the RAID controller reports the WD Blacks as "failed", the entire array must be rebuilt (which means that you will lose all of your data).

My head is spinning now after all these days of research and decision making lol. I need 3-4TB of storage mostly for videos, since this will be in a video edeting PC.

What you guys think about

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 32MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337

Not a good choice, either. That particular drive model has had a much-worse-than-average reliability history (in particular, an abnormally high number of those drives have failed - often, as soon as just a few weeks to a few months since installation - since that drive was introduced).

Ok I give up! So to summe this up there is no good 1.5tb or 2tb HDD that would be good for video storage/edeting? I need 3-4TB can someone provide few links on newegg as my options please? Thanks.

IMHO you will need at least three or four HDDs just for your data drive(s) if you want that much capacity. The problem with the super-large-capacity HDDs is that they all require three or more platters in order to reach those capacities. And the more platters crammed into a single housing, the hotter the drive runs and the greater the likelihood of early death to the drive(s). You're much better off with three or four 1TB HDDs than any 1.5 or 2TB HDDs. And if you do get any 1.5TB or 2TB hard drives, I would recommend putting them in external enclosures (preferably with eSATA ports) or plugging them into a 3.5" SATA drive dock (such as the one that's built onto the top of my CoolerMaster CM 690 II Advanced case).

Save $10 each and get the F3's from eWiz instead: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name...-F3-HD103SJ-1TB-SATA2-7200rpm-32MB-Hard-Drive ... check the hotdeals section for a coupon code to get another $5 off, IIRC. Mine was around $66 shipped, and I'm in CA, so I think I had a coupon.

The cuda.11 gen drives work fine as long as you have the updated firmware. I've been running a dozen in a raid5 array since the firmware came out. Though, I agree, I wouldn't recommend them simply because of that issue, despite the fix already being out, lol.
