I just setup my OI+Napp-it media server using ZFS Raidz for 4x2TB drives and am copying over my movies and tv shows that were being stored on my desktop and USB portable HD. I am getting around ~80MB/s speeds via my gigabit unmanaged switches. Is this a good transfer rate? I don't have a problem with my speeds since I am only copying about 1TB of data.
 
Sounds about right to me. It can be dependent on your processor and memory as well, which you haven't told us.
 
What model gigabit switch? Drastic differences between a $10 and $200, $400, etc switches

And are you talking about when copying from USB drive? Of course that'll be slower. Youve given almost no info for a reasonable answer.

A dozen things could be holding it back, peashooter realtek NICs, etc
 
I am sorry, I am using a Airlink 101 "Go Green" cheap switch. NIC is a Intel NIC card I got from work that came a server and stuck it into my NAS since OI couldn't find a realtek driver for the one in the motherboard. Processor on the NAS is a i3 2100 and 8GB of RAM.

Looks like for what I am using hardware wise it looks good.
 
Gigabit = 1000 Megabits.

Megabyte = 8 Megabits.

1000 / 8 = 125 MAXIMUM Megabytes over a gigabit connection. But you have overhead from the protocol itself which means you will never get useable speeds at 125MB/s. The most you will see is somewhere between 80 and 90MB/s. I usually see about 84MB/s across my netowork.

And it trickles down to 100Mb routers too. You will only get about 8MB/s.

I get consistent 110MB/s through CIFS both read and write. OI server, W7 client, HP Procurve L3 gigabit switch.
 
Max you will ever see (real world) for non-interleaved transmissions over TCP/IP Gigabit is (as madrebel said) about 110. With the right equipment and jumbo frames you might eek out 2 or 3 additional MB/s but that is it.

I get 110MB/s with gigabit.
