I am going to be putting together a media/file server in the very near future and am trying to figure out what I want to do for a PSU.

Here is a list of what I will be powering.

Case: Norco RPC-4020 server case (expansion for up to 21 drves total)
PSU: ?
Board: Abit IC7-G
Chip: Intel P4 2.8C
RAM: 1GB Corsair XMS PC 3200
HDD: (9) 1TB WD Green Drives
HDD Controller Card: Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 (SATA x 8 card)
DVD Drive: LITE-ON Slim 8X DVD Burner

I am thinking of either a Corsair HX620, Corsair 750TX, or PCP&C S75QB 750W PSU.

I was told that I should be getting a PSU with (1) 12V rail as to not overload the PSU when all 9 drives start at once. I was also told that the Corsair HX620 actually has only (1) 12V rail.

As a side note I plan on upgrading my current desktop well before I get to the 21 HDD's that the case will hold, so buying a PSU that will power the specs I posted above will be fine as I can replace it with a more powerful PSU down the road.

Thanks for the help.

The PC Power and Cooling 750 might be able to handle all 21 actually. My 510 handled 15 at a time reliably. If the card and backplane support it, you may be able to do a staggered spin up.

I Use a Silverstone Strider 750w To Power 12 Drives At The Moment. should be good for 20 without troublen.

Originally you had selected an HX1000w. If you are looking in that range I would recommend waiting until the review for the Revolution85+ posts in a couple of days ;)

Thanks for the input :). I'll either get the Corsair or PCP&C 750 watt PSU.

Question #1: Is PCP&C owned by OCZ, or vice versa?
The reason I ask is that the rebate form on NewEgg's site is an OCZ form that lists PCP&C PSU's.

Question #2: Any word on whether or not the Corsair HX620 does indeed only have (1) 12V rail?

I'm not opposed to getting a bigger PSU, I was just told that I wouldn't need a unit with that much juice so I lowered the wattage. I will most certainly look at your upcoming review as I've read most in the past :).

You are correct on both. OCZ owns PC Power & Cooling and the HX620 is a single 12v rail unit.
