I want a rig that can run FFXIV with the highest settings or that can hit 8k+ in the benchmark tool.

What i put together was this:

i7 970@ 4.5ghz On Noctua NH-D14 w/ Tuniq TX-3
Rampage III Extreme
Mushkin Redline 6GB 6-8-6-24
6870 CF (maybe OCed)
1000W PSU

All I'm asking is an opinion or maybe some tips. I don't really need help building the whole rig.

if your plan is to just run a game at max settings you won't be needing an i7. Looks like you want to OC though, so perhaps try an i5 760? If you're one of these peeps who doesn't care about price/performance then of course do what you will.

Also the PSU is beyond overkill.

Sugo, Have you seen spreadsheet on the game?

An i5 wont run the game at it's max.

I'm just curious, but how to you know that chip hits 4.5? Or did you already buy this?

I'm not new to this. I've played with the chip already and OCed it to 4.8 on water cooling stable.

here's an excerpt from a tom's forum post:

i7 930 @ 3.5GHz (Can probably reach 4GHz+ but haven't tried yet).
EVGA GTX 480 (not SLI yet) 1500/2000.
6 GB DDR3 G.Skills Tri-Channel @1600.
WIN7 64 bit.
64GB SSD (OS drive).
24" 1920x1200 Monitor.

High: 4,244 @1920x1080 | Load Time:10781
Low: 6,250 @1280x720 | Load Time:10808

so what's your plan with the 6870? It's basically a refreshed 5770. So if you're trying to get all crazy with benchmarks aren't you going to be either looking for a better GPU or waiting for the 69xx series?

Seems like you don't really need or want our input that much. You seem to have it all figured out.

Only advice I'd give is wait until later in the month to see how the 6950/6970 perform in FFXIV. Your cash, your choice though. Happy gaming with whatever you decide.

WTF are you on? The HD 6870 is not a refreshed HD 5770. The 6870's performance puts it squarely between the HD 5870 and the HD 5850.
