FFXIV Beta?

anyone would like to share their not so using account? :D would like to try this as well.

The alpha is a very very painful experience :(

no mouse support blows pretty hard, not gonna lie. also the interface leaves alot to be desired.

after you get used to the worst control system ever its not that bad. (still a 2/10 for ui)

i got to lvl 12/12 as an archer yesterday. go me. Im starting to do pretty solid DPS. pretty happy with it.

One thing i miss from FFXI is being able to apply all your buffs/change gear instantly. if i want to do attack power up/multi shot its gonna take 5 secs to actually get it done. its rather lame.

hows the solo / duo experience in this game? (i quit ffxi because of the wait for party's..... i would like to solo or duo with my gf while i wait for a party...)

or is it to early to say?

I don't even remember using the mouse in ffxi since the controls were so bad, the best way to play the game was using a controller imo (instant macro menus). I'm pretty interested in soloing options for the game since there wasn't much you could do to gain xp on your own as a core class.

It's an alpha, not a beta. The game's current performance, and I'm not just talking graphics, would sour many people's taste of the game.

Wait for a beta.

Does this have main job / support job like in FFXI?
Are the crafting jobs really real jobs that you can play full time as, or just side jobs?

The crafting jobs seem full time to me. I made a miner and all I could do really was mine stuff.

I shared my alpha account with someone here. I have not touched it since the first day I played it. Trust me, it feels like an alpha, you won't want to play it unless you just happen to like alpha tests.

They announced the release date for PC

September 30 2010

PS3 wont get it until march 2011....

The UI isn't even functional, and they are going for a September release? Why not just wait a year, and get everything correct? Would anyone be mad if they were to come out NEXT Summer?

How did this thread slip so far back? I know there's a beta test going on right now.. Come on people, more screenshots please!

Posting screenshots means breaking your NDA.

A couple people already broke the NDA in this thread then.

I played FFXI for awhile.. got to level 67 and loved every minute of it. I think the things that kept me going were fishing and the great community. Probably the best community in any MMO I've played.

I liked FFXI's crafting-- it was very in depth. It actually made it somewhat challenging to gain profit and required thinking, unlike today's MMOs (WoW for example, where everyone was max level crafting). I was a decently high level alchemist (84 if I recall), along with Woodworking (73), and various others.

but having to deal with things like days of the week time of day phase of the moon
WHAT DIRECTION your facing all effected crafting and who knows what else

and Sq-e was never forth coming with this stuff people only found it out by trial and error

And?

That was part of what made it enjoyable. If you want known cookie-cutter mechanics play one of the vast multitude of games out there that cater to that. FFXI catered to a niche, and for those that enjoy figuring things out it was great.

I totally forgot about that, and truly hope they bring it back, or at least something challenging to discover again in FF14. Good memories of waiting for the perfect conditions to go on a crafting-spree. :D

So you want what exactly? The crafting bullshit from WoW? Or the even worse system from Aion? The crafting system in FFXI was beautiful. It had a high cost of entry and took some experimentation on top of that. The end result was if you were a level 100 crafter it actually meant something.

I've had a max level crafter in nearly every MMO I've played since FFXI. Very few if any of them ever made me any significant amount of gold/kinah/whatevers.

I was not a fan of the FFXI crafting except for cooking since it was just fun to have running around with the hat and apron + messing around with the food/drink.

There was a ridiculously high cost and over-saturated market since there weren't any "soulbound" items like WoW had when I played. Hitting 100 meant absolutely nothing since there were tons of Japanese players dominating the market making obscene amounts of gil before any NA could get there.

I'm hoping the crafting system is less punishing and hopefully more useful to the crafters profession.

Although I did enjoy seeing many venomous claws get destroyed back in the day when people were attempting scorpion harness +1, 10 million gil down the drain lol
