what's the fastest vidcard i can run without the extra power connector? building a mini-itx HTPC with limited PSU options but i want to be able to do some minor gaming on the big screen once in a while.

I'm in the same position, looking for a faster HTPC/TV gaming card. I think the HD 5670 is the fastest DX11 card without a power cable.

I am going to pick up a 9800GT EE (no power cable) unless AMD releases a new mid-range 6 series card. The 9800GT EE is slightly faster than the HD 5670. I don't really care about DX11.

I was limiting choices to single slot coolers since I have a mini ITX case. Forgot that some people use larger cases. ;)

Radeon 5750
Looks like this one doesn't have a power connector. Do you need low profile though?

Second this, there are a few green edition 5750's that do not require PCIe power connectors. These will be by far the fastest options I have seen that don't need extra power.

If it will fit in your HTPC case you could also try this one. It is passively cooled and thus very quiet, but the heatsink is HUGE. I used to have one of these in my Shuttle XPC SFF case, in which it just barely fit.

Hmm, the XFX 5670 single slot comes to mind. If it is anything like their single slot 5770, it will be dead silent.
