After staring at my T-line bleeding veeeeeeeeeery slowly for the first 10 or so minutes, I had an idea. Once the huge bubbles are purged, most of the air in the lines was in the form of smaller bubbles which flow close to the center of the tubing. This means they don't have a very good chance of escaping when they pass the T-line. Pinching the line to slow the flow only helped for a couple medium sized bubbles, but all the fine stuff was still trapped (and gurgling loudly). Switching the pump on and off helped a bit, but again, not a lot.
So I had an idea: obstruct the flow in the middle using a "snake". Zip ties turned out to be perfect for the job. Four in a row (and trimmed neatly) extended into the flow, and bled the system COMPLETELY and effortlessly in less than two hours! (It might have been quicker, because I went to bed after watching it working for a couple minutes.) Pic below
Of course, make it long enough that you can actually pull it out when you're done!
Turn the pump off, and fish the snake into the tubing so that it extends upstream from the T-line. (If the pump is on when you're fishing the snake in, it'll tend to get sucked downstream instead of upstream.) That way, it creates a "ramp" for the center part of the flow to be diverted into the T-line, where it swirls and releases the bubbles before reentering the flow.
Yes, that's old school hardware. I'm just trying out a few ideas on this (disposable) rig before my next build. And yes, I know my T-line is horizontal. Once it's bled, it doesn't matter.
