Mmm 9800 pro goodness.. sry had to contribute :p

Hmmmm....impressive....

Does this game have multiplayer?

If so, what kinds?

You don't need a 9800XT, I have 9800NP and I run the game with all settings maxed. Runs smoothly for me. If you have 9700pro or above, the only thing you really need to worry about is having a good processor and at least 512MB ram to back it up.

The specs in my profile run this game flawlessly ;)

how do you find out your fps? I have a AIW 9700 pro, want to see how it does. 1 min away from a complete download. :p

Can I play? :)

6x AA / 16x AF 1280x1024

In the open it stays in the 40's+ / in the woods it drops into the 20's. But no lower, and it's still very smooth and playable with incredible graphics. You know. The way it's meant to be played. ;) :D

\r_DisplayInfo 1

Make sure the slash is \ and not / because Far Cry is anal about that.

Yeah but what are your detail settings? I bet you have to turn them down.

Sorry I just had to contribute...

However, this is NOT running at full resolution as I am getting more RAM before I crank it RIGHT UP.

What's this I hear of people turning off shadows on their setups, leaving everything else on its highest? Does it really affect performance that much? The shadows in this game are amazing.

i read all this shit about fry car not playable on this and no eye candy on that. My Asus Ti4600 plays the demo very nicely w/ sweet ass visual (looks no different than the screen shots i've seen). Granted i get 20-45 fps but its still playable. i beat the demo no problem. i prolly drop the settings a bit more for multi.

Why do you have shadows disabled? Are your frames that low with them??

thats the demo. once u get the real game it wont be like that. the demo doesnt have all of the graphics and stuff in it. the creaters use the demo to try out the game to see what it will be like then they look at it and make it a lot better. when GTA Vice City came out for pc they had the demo and the graphics sucked. then when they came out with the actual game they where ok. but not thay great. PS2 graphics are way better. but anyways the demo isnt anything until you get the actual game

I have to say that the screenshots you guys are posting are great!!! They are truly beautiful. :D :D :D

i tried to play it on my fx 5200 will all the graphics high and i wish i could post a screenshot but there wasnt one. the game is off my computer until i get a video card (stupid computer  )

Why is it that, of all the virtual badasses that have posted in here, only ONE OF YOU is playing with water settings on Ultra high? How can you tell? Look at the trees, grass, and smoke/fire/enemies in the water reflection... You can't see them in the reflection unless your water settings are on Ultra High.

Need an example? http://www.hyundaiproject.com/farcry/FarCry0007.jpg
See the trees? The truck? This is water on ULTRA high. If your rig is badass, then you need to enable this :) You also need to hit the console and do the "e_water_ocean_sun_reflection 1" for the proper sun glare effect off the water...

Next, why the HELL would you disable shadows if your rig is all that? Shadows are half the badass creepy part of this whole game. Need a demonstration? http://www.hyundaiproject.com/farcry/FarCry0003.jpg
It might be hard to see, but that's a bad dude floating in knee-deep water, with his shadow being cast onto the ground and being then further rippled by the turbulence in the water. Look at his creepy-ass fingers in the reflection! How could you live without that? :p

And finally for all these "uber badass" rigs, you need to start posting some r_displayinfo 1 screenshots... Having your game on "very high" would normally give you a screenshot something like this: http://www.hyundaiproject.com/farcry/FarCry0013.jpg
Yeah, six million polys per second, Bleh! You need to start tweakin a little, Very High just isn't enough! :D http://www.hyundaiproject.com/farcry/FarCry0012.jpg

Let's pump THIRTY MILLION polys outta this 9800! The difference? Very High (and Ultra High on the water) plus the following:
e_terrain_lod_ratio 1
e_water_ocean_sun_reflection 1
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio 2.5
r_bumpselfshadow 1

Make your rig cry! Make your eyes water from the beauty! And post some screenies of it all!

I play with 1280x1024x32 with every graphic option set to the highest it can go, same with sound. Hardware EAX on, 5.1 enabled. Drivers set to max quality. AA/AF off though. I can run 4xAA/8xAF outside, but inside with those settings, and a fire fight, it can get into the 20's, and thats just unplayable to me.

Yup, definately a game that's worthy of EAX and using a true 5.1 surround system... My motherboard has the same Envy24HT audio chip as the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 card does, and it kicks royal ass! I'm using a relatively cheap set of Logitech Z-640's, but they're more than adequate for a game like this :)

I don't run any AA either, but I do leave AF at 8x because it's basically a free option and it helps a lot on the textures at wierd angles. I noticed it also helps a little with the "popping" of detail textures sometimes, although not always. There's still that known glitch with ATI's anisotropic filtering at wierd certain angles, and you can occasionally (rarely) see it in places.

The reviews Ive read show the M-Audio taking a bit FPS hit, if I remember right. Which was a big reason I picked the Audigy 2 ZS. I use them with my year and a half old Z-680's. All the little sounds of the game when its cranked up, are great. And yeah, shadows do rock.

FarCry0000.jpg

1024x768 No AA or AF everything else on HIGH. I'll get some pics with AA and AF :) Looks so pretty!

Hey, when true aftermarket-quality audio is integrated right into the motherboard, you don't complain :D How many other motherboards have hardware EAX 2.0 support, 24bit/192khz resolution and 7.1 channel output?

I am really liking the PS 2.0 effects. Im just amazed everytime I play how good it looks. I know a common FPS boost is to turn off, or down the shadows, but with them full on, it adds a whole nother level of realism and scarey factor in doors. Especially when its mostly dark..

54.jpg

And of course the all too common, "crawling in a duct when a monster jumps out" at you screen shot. It seems almost every game has this now. While still good for the wow effect, its starting to show its age. :)

See your first two screenshots? See how the mountain has the really bad "triangulated" look to it? You can fix that really easily and without much of a performance hit (so long as you have a GOOD video card -- 5700FX or higher, 9700np or higher)

At the console, enter this and watch it be MUCH better:
e_terrain_lod_ratio 1

Yes it did. Is there a file to put it in so it does it auto?

It seems that the actual game changes that value depending on which level is loaded... Go figure

I have it entered manually in my system.cfg file, but it only takes effect on the first level. From there on out, if the edginess starts to bug you, it must be changed manually. Sucks :(

106 is easy. Try 200+.

Its not hard to inflate frames for a screen shot.

As I said, its not hard to inflate frames for a screen shot.

we should have the moderators change the title to "Post Your Far Cry Pictures"

Now everyone else keeps saying that you have to immediatly ditch the FX5200. Use Coolbits to OC it, just hit auto... whatever it is, and use those settings, I got a 100mhz OC on teh ram and like 80 something on the core. Far cry is perfectly playable with the newest nvidia drivers. I'm running the 56.72 and it works much better then it did previously.

Save your money and get the best and newest when it comes out in the next coming months, then show em all up with your 9900XT (or whatever they're calling it, I don't remember). Unless Doom 3 is out soon... then your going to have a problem.

Woah....

I was expecting this to kill my frame rate, but it didn't spank it too hard. Nice.

I'm really missing my second DIMM right about now though. dropping to 512 megs from 1 gig is really really noticable in this game.

Here is mine now Everything on Very High no AA or AF :) Looks SOO GOOD! After I put AA and AF on....

I don't know who you are referring to, but all settings card AND game were at maximum including surround and my monitors max resolution.

I didn't go into the ini and alter anything. It's just like it would be if you D/L and installed it.
