What? No hype or discussion about Far Cry 3 coming Dec. 4th?

They released the system requirements today. Will it be better than Far Cry 2? Sure looks like it. Back on the island setting, very cool.

I can't wait, this should be a good one. I just watched the new trailer and holy shit batman the graphics look great. It sure looked like a real tiger, damn.

This is my opinion as well. Far Cry 2 may be one of the worst games I have ever played. By worst I mean a supposed blockbuster title that just went completely wrong. I dont understand how anyone liked Far Cry 2. I will not be buying the 3rd.

The first game I ever bought on Steam that made me go look to see if there was any way I could get a refund. Why on earth they thought they should make a 3rd one, I'll never know. I can only hope the computer the source code is located on becomes sentient and, realizing what the travesty located on it's HDD is, deletes it. Or becomes Skynet and nukes the world, because that would still be better than Farcry 3.

So I wonder if they are doing the Max Payne "let's put the best hardware available as the recommended spec" thing, or if you actually need that to run it at high/max...

As I recall PCGAMER gave farcry 2 a nice 94% verdict and the last statement said game of the year. I suspected before but now realized they are smoking crack. I dont trust people who get paid for opinions.

I know that review. If you read inbetween the lines it's clear they didn't play the game for 45 minutes. I've said way too much about this in other threads but I honestly believe no one could willingly play Far Cry 2 for more than that. The reason I said that is because it's right around that mark that the missions start repeating themselves. There are well over 100 missions in the game that repeat the first couple missions over and over, none of which are optional. Yes I unlocked all the guns too god help me.

I finished Far Cry 2. I remember the last missions and the ending (It's worse than borderlands) clearly because when it ended I nearly threw my keyboard through my monitor. It was awful. Every single step of the way.

That review is hard evidence that reviews are bought and paid for.

I'm not talking about those reviews. I was referring to this place, where gamers give [H]ardcore gaming reviews.
 
IMO, the game looks pretty generic. If people here say it's awesome, I'll consider it, but I'm not going to buy it just because it has nice graphics.
 
The videos definitely make it look like it could be solid. The videos made Far Cry 2 look like it'd be boring as shit, and it was. Could be a sign, well, at least for me.
 
I am looking forward to it ... it will be interesting to see if they deliver multiple problem solutions depending on your style of play (as they have promised) ... I am more of a stealth player and like to snipe the enemies from a distance or sneak up and get them ... not much for the full on assault usually ... this game is supposed to offer alternatives approaches that cater to the different styles ... we'll see if that plays out or not
 
The SP looks interesting but the MP looked like the most generic shit ever.

So a 480 = 5770 and a 2600K = FX-4150?
 
It does look very interesting and it could be a legitimately awesome game. I am just so reluctant to get it after I got burned by the corrupt save issue twice on Far Cry 2.

I'm really curious as to what you'd expect the missions to be about. Its a shooter. It will probably revolve around shooting people and driving to places.

The missions themselves could vary a decent amount (though yes, there almost always was shooting). From flooding a valley, to being the gunner on a boat, to allowing a plane to escape, to assassinating a man giving a speech atop of a bus, to rescuing your buddy from the wreckage of their crashed plane and more. That is a rather decent variety IMO.

The story was leaps and bounds better than Borderlands, especially the ending, though that is not an impressive feat. The first 2 minutes and the last 2 minutes of the story is all that mattered in FC2 but that was far more than Borderlands offered.

The game certainly wasn't perfect though. To get more weapons you had to do the same mission over and over, the quick respawning enemy camps and the overall lame story are what I did not like from the game. Personally I hated the horrible weapon modeling as well as the weak damage but most games suffer the same issues.

Otherwise I really enjoyed the game. Great setting, atmosphere, maps, action, fire affects, and animations. The map was full of interesting places to go to. I enjoyed the game enough to play it two times and am thinking of playing it a 3rd sometime.

I personally don't like the theme FC3 is taking (much preferred FC2's) though I will be looking into it.
 
I really liked FC2, but then I thought Dead Space was a piece of shit, and Assassin's Creed and Arkham Asylum weren't far behind, but some people rave about those. Guess it must be "opinion".

Much as I liked FC2 I wouldn't ever pretend it was perfect, or even close, and in particular they showed dev videos prior to release which had much more complex missions than actually appeared in the game.

The reviews of FarCry 2 were all generally positive. Yet the game was a steaming pile of shit. Game reviews and gun reviews seem to be the most biased types of review articles out there. Well that and Motortrend Truck reviews.

I'm trying to grasp why a techinically sound open world FPS with some design flaws receives a worse overall internal community rating than that of RAGE; which was a fundamentally broken game, in reference to it's technical limitations and design choices.

Being a sandbox shooter doesn't necessarily make it good. The design flaws were also huge. They easily over shadowed anything that the game did get right. Another problem is that the game totally abandoned the themes and the style of the original game. That was jarring enough for people not to like it. The first game had you dodging mercs, had some decent humor, and had you killing mutants in a objective based, semi-structured, semi-open world. In the second game they went total sandbox but the game had a story that felt like a foot note. And the protagonist is some wannabe arms dealer who doesn't ever seem to carry a gun that works for more than two or three magazines worth of ammunition. FarCry 2's protagonist is a far cry from the at least entertaining Jack Carver found in the first game.

And though the game was open it didn't convey any sense of urgency for anything, nor did it give you very good direction. Things like the wrench on the radiator fixing all vehicle problems, to the guns all being horribly unreliable, rusty pieces of shit, to always encountering a jeep full of bad guys anywhere you went, constant enemy respawning crap, etc. just got old really fast. Despite Rage's dated Bethesda style RPG mechanics and technical issues, from what I understand the game was still actually some what fun and entertaining. Something that FarCry 2 could never say.

I really think FarCry 2 was a different game that simply got renamed to FarCry 2 late in the development stages when Ubisoft bought the rights to the name from Crytek. I think they had hoped that the game would do better financially if it had a familiar name to it rather than being a total unknown on all levels. In this case I think the FarCry name actually worked against it. It seems clear that Crysis is the real sequel to FarCry. They traded the Hawiian shirts for super soldier suits and mutants for aliens, but the game play and style is undeniably FarCry like.

They keep talking about how Farcry 3 has some physiological elements to it, making the gamer uncomfortable, keeping you on edge, in situations. Whatever that means, but it sounds like the RPG-ish part will be better than FC2.

Also, they have a new save system, there will be multiple save (safe) houses you go to, in order to save your game.

Still sounds like it's structured more like FarCry 2 than FarCry 1. I'll pass on that.

I suppose the fact that I did not play more than the demo of the Farcry original, due to 6800GTX graphical issues, lessened the apparent jarring shock that was received by fans of the original.

In the insane multitude of games I have played, Farcry 2 was a 'far cry' from the worst, so that's where my confusion had stemmed from.

I've tried many energy drinks. Most all of them are fucking nasty. But Red Bull beats them all out. And it's only like $17 a can for the smallest portion size of any of the energy drinks aside from 5 Hour Energy.

I'd rather drink a mixture of Mountain Dew and Natural Light. And not the stronger shit we get in Texas. The near beer bullshit from OK would do fine.

I've tried every type of energy drink, but my favorite by far is that little pink one from Rockstar, with the straw, y'know, the one for women (no offense).

At my last job (Game studio in Boston), we had full access to a giant fridge with what felt like an unlimited stock of Monsters, all flavors. That was a hell of a year....
 
They wanted to go for a dark dramatic game, and it ended up being so so wrong. I had no clue at any point WTF was going on but i needed pills and diamonds
 
Finding the diamonds was somewhat more fun than playing the rest of the game. Too bad, they had a decent sandbox. There just wasn't anything in it.

Yeah the game looked good and the basic mechanics were OK, but the content was seriously lacking. They just seemed to cut and paste everything over and over again.
