Far Cry 2 benchmarks

Any word on what I should expect to have performance wise?

E6600 @ 3.0, 8800GT, 4GB 800mhz DDR2
Gaming @ 1920X1200.

If I had to guess, I'd say similiar to what I got using my backup box. You have a faster CPU, but I have a slightly faster GPU. This is with everything at ULTRA HIGH or whatever it's called with no anti-aliasing enabled. Don't think it's even necessary at that res.

Average Framerate: 28.20
Max. Framerate: 41.60
Min. Framerate: 22.52

Aren't the Ultra High settings exclusive to DX10?

No, you can set Ultra high settings under DX9 and I'm using Windows XP x64 here. The game works like a charm here.

180.42 drivers must be realllllllyyyy good because I'm getting

* Average Framerate: 45.91
* Max. Framerate: 53.18
* Min. Framerate: 35.47

At 1920x1200, Very high/ ultra high, 8x AA :eek:

Wtf is going on? I expected this game to CRIPPLE me at 1920......on high. I'm running it on maxed.....

GTX260

i'm running a similar config @ 1080p. make sure you're using the 180 beta's. they make a huge difference.

i thought everything was going well as far as framerates go... was averaging about 50 or so, running around outside, shooting enemies, talking to people blowing things up. then i went for a sleep at a safe house, woke up to the sunrise and my frame-rate tanked. it's weird tho, looking at what i feel would be a harder scene for my videocards to render yeilds better frame rates than say... looking at a shadowy wall or bushes.

switched to the new 180 betas, like i should've before i ran the game first, it's like night and day. everything's running great now

measured with fraps 2.9.6, running around at Mike's Bar during a sunrise. 1920x1080, vsync off, hdr on, bloom on, optimal settings (everything very high or if not possible, high)

with 178.24's ---> 2008-10-22 22:58:58 - FarCry2
Frames: 637 - Time: 10845ms - Avg: 58.737 - Min: 18 - Max: 107

i stopped it short because something was obviously not right.

with 180 betas --> 2008-10-23 00:29:55 - FarCry2
Frames: 5338 - Time: 110705ms - Avg: 48.218 - Min: 26 - Max: 126

sure, the average is lower, but that minimum is what i'm looking at. the difference is quite noticeable in-game, so much smoother. these drivers are great so far.

so sli 8800gt setups with at least some kind of 3.0 core2 should be rockin this game out.

some nice screenies

I'm getting studdering in the game with my setup, even with my settings down to where I never drop below 30fps the frames are still jittery. 8.10 hotfix did nothing to address this for me.

same here on my 4670. Im still sad at how bad my pc performs in this game. I cant even come close to maxing the game even at just 1024x768. Im very much considering a new pc and of course a better card. this 4670 hasnt impressed me at all in modern games. even at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 it still sucks and overclocking it does zero.

The occlusion system in the game isn't automatic at all, it all has to be manually placed. It's a really clunky system they use, looking at the included editor (while I doubt it's a carbon copy of the actual editor). There's just pre-defined blocks which you have to place.

Really, there's probably a ton of overdraw in the game. Go in a building and I can almost guarantee the outside will still be drawn while you're inside. Occluders can't really be placed around buildings because of how coarse they are as well, guess what will happen if one happens to cover a window?

The engine certainly seems well optimized, but it probably would have been better if they got out of the stone age and actually did a real occlusion system like every other modern game. In Crysis, when you create a model, you also create the hull for occlusion and physics. From there on, it's all handled by the engine, and most objects in the game do include it. In UT3 most of the work is done automatically by the middleware they use.

Thats all really interesting... Kudos to both engines, but the UT3 engine is mediocre compared to Crysis. I still thoroughly enjoyed Crysis and the games using UT3, most mentionably, Bioshock which I fucking love... So far Farcry 2 feels unique and challenging... and do I dare say, the fauna looks better than in Crysis? :eek:

explained like that, it makes sense. things are alot more gooder now that i'm using the correct driver for the game, but the shadowy walls still take a hit in fps as compared to sun-drenched tree limbs.

i guess the trade off is no load times. anyways, i'm gonna actually play now seeing as i have my frame rate issues worked out.

step 1: make sure drivers are up to date. i guess i got too excited. :D

Well I don't think my problem is releated to performance really. My FPS is fine, this jittery phenomonon happens when I'm changing direction. Be it left to right or even accellerating/decelerating while in a vehicle.

This just kinda looks like oblivion with higher res textures and worse player models.

Yeah, I really haven't been getting into the game as much as I thought. It's too RPGish for my tastes.

Im sorry I wasnt clear but yeah Im getting a little stuttering even when the framerates are okay too. the rest of that post was me just complaining about the 4670s overall performance.

core 192 or core 216 version?

Let me just clarify, the stuttering started after I applied the hotfix, but went away after I rebooted.

Also, if you're getting crashes or graphical artifacts, and you've overclocked, try underclocking a little bit, even though myself is fine when being stressed by furmark it still had 1-2 glitches with FarCry2, so give that a go.

As far as fan control goes with the hotfix, I still have it for both my sapphire 4870's, although before I restarted I only had 1 fan control, I think thats related to discovering the 2nd card on boot.

Is anyone's mouse a little sluggish in game, esp at menus -- even with the sensitivity at max?

people have been mentioning this so there must be a bit of an issue but i'm not feeling the lag unless i have my display settings at an unrealistic level.

I'm getting studdering in the game with my setup, even with my settings down to where I never drop below 30fps the frames are still jittery. 8.10 hotfix did nothing to address this for me.

What resolution are you running the game at?

Response time on the mouse is perfect. It's sorta like the feeling on your desktop when you have the sensitivity too low, and it takes 3 or 4 strokes to get the mouse from one side of the screen to the other.

It's not that bad in game, but it takes me picking up the mouse for another pass more times than I'd like when in game. Head movement when in a car, though, is quick and responsive.

Core 192. I just canceled my Evga step up. I don't want a core 216 that won't overclock as well as my 192.

hmmm...

seems like my 8800GTX overclocked past Ultra stock speeds should do the game just fine then! :D :D :D

unless yours is heavily oc'd.

then its another story.

Is anyone's mouse a little sluggish in game, esp at menus -- even with the sensitivity at max?

Yes I get this bad. It's real annoying. Other games, Crysis, for instance, is extremely smooth mouse movement, aiming, movement, etc.

The framerates are killer in FarCry 2, but the mouse and movement is kind of jerky and unresponsive. My system is a beast too... strange and annoying.

Did I miss something? How are you guys benchmarking (running a demo I guess? How do you run it?)

Thanks!

Is it studdering for anyone with a 4870 X2 /w the hot fix and what not? I am planning to play this when I order the 4870x2, and it will disappoint me if there is studdering... Thanks in advance.

its stuttering for a lot of ATI card users with the hotfix

Is it stuttering in the game, or just the benchmark - because it seems like a known issue that the benchmark stutters while the game doesn't.
I havent noticed that much in the game but it was there. in the benchmarks its at the same exact spots every time so that may help track down the cause. Im so disappointed in my comps overall performance in FC2 right now that I dont even want to play.
