Fan Connections?

I just bought 4 yate loon 140mm fans and they have a three pin connector and a pass through molex. Are there an benefits to using the three pin connectors to the motherboard headers versus the molex? Thanks.

Depends if your motherboard has voltage control for fans or not. If not then either way they will run at 100% speed all the time.

I am looking at the Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H. Any idea if this motherboard has voltage control for 3 pin fans?

I couldn't say but there's Five 4pin headers on that board. I know there aren't many 140mm 4 pin fans, but there are a few good ones. Off hand, I know Noiseblocker & Thermalright make some.

Not sure either way so I couldn't say for certain. You'd have to check the manual or possibly contact support. It does have 4 pin fans, which usually means they have gone that route for fan control (and not many boards now seem to come with voltage controls).

Alpenfohn too (though I'm not sure if they're available in the US)! They can be expensive though.
