Fallout NV DLC..

Can you play the first New Vegas DLC if you're near the end of the main quest - I just lost interest in this title, though I got a good 50 hours out of it. This DLC might be a reason for me to return.

New patch this Monday that's substantial and lays down more groundwork for the forthcoming DLC. Details:

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1181744-balance-changes-in-the-new-fnv-patch/

Hi everyone,

The promised patch for Fallout: New Vegas is almost here! PC users will get it on Monday and console folk will receive it soon (we’re still waiting to hear the exact date).

As I mentioned in my previous post, this patch contains optimizations and stability improvements as well as balance changes.

Here’s a rundown of the balance tweaks we’ve implemented for this update:

Guns:

* Automatic Guns - SMGs, the Assault Carbine, and the LMG are more accurate across the board. They're also more durable. 12.7mm SMG mag capacity increased to 21.
* Shotguns - Buckshot has received a x1.2 inherent DAM mod. This slightly incentivizes using buckshot over slugs when enemy armor is not an issue. Magnum buckshot has a x1.3 DAM mod and a small amount of DT bypass. Spread for many shotguns has been lowered.
* Hunting Rifle, Anti-Materiel Rifle - Hunting Rifle and AMR now have the lowest spread of all rifles. Hunting Rifle RoF increased, Crit Chance set to x2. Anti-Materiel Rifle's Crit DAM has been raised from 80 to 110 to make it more viable when compared to the Gobi.
* Sniper Rifle, Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle - Sniper Rifle and Gobi now have a higher RoF and lower AP cost. Both have x2 Crit Chance. Gobi has increased DAM and much higher Crit DAM over the Sniper Rifle.
* That Gun - That Gun is now a slow-firing hand cannon that does huge DAM firing 5.56mm out of a short barrel.
* Hunting Revolver – Rate of Fire increased.
* Service Rifle - DAM slightly lowered, firing animation changed to the one used by Marksman Carbine, RoF dramatically increased. Spread decreased.
* Silenced .22 Pistol, SMG - Crit DAM and Crit Chance significantly increased.
* 5mm Ammo - Base ammo has 10 points of DT bypass. AP variants have 25 points of DT bypass. This affects the Assault Carbine, Minigun, and CZ57 Avenger.
* .308 JSP - DAM mult reduced from x1.5 to x1.3. x2 CND degradation effect added.
* Lever-Action Rifles - Cowboy Repeater, Trail Carbine, Brush Gun - RoF has been slightly reduced, AP costs have been significantly increased, and spread has been slightly increased. Cowboy Repeater Custom Action RoF increase has been reduced. La Longue Carabine spread has been significantly lowered.

Explosives:

* Dynamite - Larger explosion radius.
* Frag and Plasma Grenades – DAM increased.
* 25mm Grenades - Slightly increased DAM on the explosion.
* 40mm Grenades - Significantly higher DAM on the explosion.
* Missile Launcher / Fat Man - Now have much better zoom FoV and good accuracy. Missile and Fat Man projectiles (not the explosion) have a large base DAM. Both are extremely effective on direct hits, but still potent even if a direct hit is not scored. N.B.: Listed DAM on weapons assumes a direct hit!

Energy Weapons:

* Gatling Laser - Base DAM is higher. Against heavily armored targets, this is still a poor weapon. Against lightly armored targets, especially with Over Charge or Max Charge ECPs + Focus Optics + Laser Commander, it has extraordinary DPS.
* Tesla Cannon, Tesla-Beaton Prototype - These now consume far less ammo per shot and can be fired several times before a reload. DAM is beefy with an additional 2 second DoT.
* Pew-Pew - Lower ammo capacity, consumes far fewer ECs per shot. Still a two-shot weapon.

Melee and Unarmed:

* Ripper, Chainsaw, Thermic Lance - DAM lowered, all ignore DR/DT.
* Bladed Gauntlet, Mantis Gauntlet - Ignore DR/DT flags removed (were not supposed to be marked as such). Mantis Gauntlet animation/sound fixed.

Perks:

* Splash Damage – Functions properly.
* The Professional - 10mm Pistol, SMG added to perk list.

Thanks,

Jason Bergman

I hope this doesn't screw with any of the mods I've got running. *fingers crossed*

As far as I'm concerned, the frame rate issues I have with this title (which revolve around the setting for ifpsclamp) are a much bigger part of the engine itself, and can't ever be fixed.

The stuttering is horrible unless I set ifpsclamp to 60. But when I set it to 60 I get ridiculous slowdown in places, as though the game is running in ultra slow mo. New Vegas, in particular, out there on the strip, just becomes a total moon-walk, as though my character is running under water or something. Just horrible.

I would like to think the patch will do something, but I know it won't. I've pretty much given up on this game. It's ridiculous that I can get 60 fps in Crysis but not in this title.

In hindsight, I'd have to say that this game was quite a disappointment. I almost finished it, but right now, I have no desire whatsoever to launch this thing again. Too much hassle for an engine that's inferior, and a game that just isn't as good as the original. It doesn't even feel like a post apocalyptic world to me - that was the real kicker.

If only they could fix those fucking Catadors or w/e they are called. Not even my special Gauss rifle(the one that does like 125 damage) can kill them with 1 hit to the head. Very annoying when they just hit you once and that stupid venom just rapes you :(

The key to taking down Cazadores is to snipe their wings. You've got to cripple them and then worry about killing them. And of course make sure you have lots of antivenom...

Just use a sniper rifle, one bullet and the Cazadors die. I've hunted many of them that way very easily. Actually with handloaded bullets and sneak attacks it's possible to kill a deathclaw in one hit as well.

Just finished and enjoyed the DLC and enjoyed it. Better bang/buck than the ME2 DLC IMHO and better than the FO3 DLC as well.

'Honest Hearts' has gone gold according to the wiki and is past due expected release date of 4/21.

Could not disagree with you more.

I would say this DLC is better than Operation Anchorage by a hair strictly in terms of story and setup while the rest of F03's DLCs kicks this thing's ass, especially Broken Steel. It's really not even close.

ME2 DLC? I'm sorry but Shadow Broker and Overlord have a lot more going for them than this Dead Money DLC does. Way more.

^^ IMO. ;)

I almost want to play this DLC again somehow after reading your post because I'm wondering if I missed...a whole lot. Nah, I can't make myself go through it again. No reason to do so.

I just thought Dead Money was utterly tedious and boring and even a punishment with those damned collars. Thankfully there was a mod out practically on day one to get around that collar problem and preserve my sanity otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered trying to continue. I would have gone right back to an earlier save before having gone in there and been on my merry way.

The only thing I really took from Dead Money was tantalizing story tidbits and clear layups for future adventures for the Courier. I also liked meeting Father Elijah considering how important he is to Veronica. A pity you can't even take companions with you because I really would have liked to have seen a moment between Veronica and Elijah. Oh well.

It wasn't "bad"...I just found it to be utterly mediocre and tedious.

By all rights, I don't think I'll ever play through DM again same as I'll never play through Operation Anchorage again.

There's any number of quest mods for New Vegas that also kick Dead Money's ass. Try New Vegas Bounties 1 and 2, A World of Pain, and anything done by an author named Puce Moose and see if you don't agree with me. ;)

Great news. Now THIS I have high hopes for. :)

Thanks for the tips regarding the quest mods.

I prefer Obsidian's style of storytelling and character development to Bethesda's. I can see the collar issue being tedious and lost my head a few times in the final vault.

Regarding the ME2 dlc, they had an 'on rails' feel and I ripped though them pretty quickly. The art and cinematics were typical ME2 goodness, and of course the U3 engine is much prettier than gamebryo.

It would be nice to have 'honest hearts' to tide me over until Witcher 2 drops, but those user mods you mentioned will have to do.

edit: never played Overlord, only Shadow Broker, Stolen Memory, and Arrival.

So did that massive patch ever get applied? Because my New Vegas is still running like garbage. When I'm on the Vegas strip the game is almost unplayable.

If the patch with its 'performance enhancements' was actually applied then I might just give up on this game. What a piece of garbage.

Good stuff. Overlord and Shadow Broker are definitely the two best ME 2 DLCs. I agree with your descriptions of the rest of them. :)

I can't wait to dig into Honest Hearts. :)

New Vegas DLC: Details on Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road

Today we’re excited to shed light on New Vegas’ upcoming game add-ons: Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, and Lonesome Road.

As a bonus, we’ve got the first officially released screenshot for Honest Hearts. This DLC will be out on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in two weeks (May 17th), and users should now be able to grab the proper game update to play the content.

Read the press release below and stay tuned for more information on all three add-ons.

BETHESDA SOFTWORKS REVEALS DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT PLANS FOR FALLOUT®: NEW VEGAS™

Three Additional Add-on Packs Releasing in Coming Months
for Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system and Windows PCs

May 3, 2011 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced three downloadable content packs will be released in the coming months for Fallout®: New Vegas™. The three packs will be released simultaneously for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows-based PCs.

Honest Hearts™, Old World Blues™ and Lonesome Road™ will further expand upon Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout: New Vegas takes all the action, humor and post-apocalyptic grime and grit of this legendary series, and raises the stakes.

1.) Available on May 17, Honest Hearts takes you on an expedition to the unspoiled wilderness of Utah’s Zion National Park. Things go horribly wrong when your caravan is ambushed by a tribal raiding band. As you try to find a way back to the Mojave, you become embroiled in a war between tribes and a conflict between a New Canaanite missionary and the mysterious Burned Man. The decisions you make will determine the fate of Zion.

2.) In Old World Blues, releasing in June, you will discover how some of the Mojave’s mutated monsters came to be when you unwittingly become a lab rat in a science experiment gone awry. You’ll need to scour the Pre-War research centers of the Big Empty in search of technology to turn the tables on your kidnappers or join forces with them against an even greater threat.

3.) Lonesome Road, available in July, brings the courier’s story full circle when you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of New Vegas. In his transmission, Ulysses promises the answer as to why, but only if you take one last job –a job that leads you into the depths of the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. The road to the Divide is a long and treacherous one, and of the few to ever walk the road, none have ever returned.

Reviews of Fallout: New Vegas have called the game as “an utterly essential purchase” (MSN UK) and as “addictively, rambunctiously fun” (Entertainment Weekly). The Associated Press awarded it a 4 out of 4 stars and said “Bottom Line: It’s a Blast”, while GameSpy gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars and called Fallout: New Vegas “one of the best games of the year.”

All downloadable content for Fallout: New Vegas will be available for download on Xbox LIVE® for 800 Microsoft Points, the PlayStation®Network for $9.99, and both Steam and Direct2Drive for $9.99.

Published by Bethesda Softworks and developed at Obsidian Entertainment, Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, and Fallout: New Vegas have been rated M for Mature by the ESRB. Looking forward to all of it. :)

Hopefully in the new DLC the world will actually feel post apocalyptic, because New Vegas sure doesn't feel like that to me.

Looks good. The wiki mentions a total of 9 DLCs in the pipeline for NV.

Anyone get the Honest Hearts DLC? I'm considering it as it seems a little more robust than dead money(I could be wrong).
