Is Dead Money going to stay exclusive to the 360? Or is it just a timed release?

If they release it solely for the 360 I am going to be very pissed.

Just like with the FO3 DLC its going to be timed exclusive. MS probably signed a multi-year or multi-game deal with Bethesda for DLC.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/67395

Bethesda has revealed the previously Xbox 360-exclusive, DLC for Fallout: New Vegas will arrive on the PC and PS3 on February 22.

Though Bethesda did not specify how much the "Dead Money" DLC will cost when it arrives on the PlayStation Store and on PC via Steam and Direct2Drive, we presume it will be priced at $10 like the Xbox Live Marketplace release. Shacknews has contacted Bethesda for clarification on the content's price.

The publisher also revealed that three more downloadable content packages will be released for Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas "in the coming months." Unlike the first DLC, however, all future content for the game will arrive on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC simultaneously.

Good news.

The bad news, at least for me, is: I simply can't get the game to work any longer, even with all mods disabled.

Anyone else see this trick?: I've done "verify cache integrity" with Steam several times and it always says at least 1 file isn't correct and it'll fetch the necessary file and then nothing happens, repeat ad nauseum.

I don't see any way around me having to do a complete uninstall and reinstall and I'll have to hold my breath about my saves. I won't be a happy camper at that rate.

Semi related, if you don't think the save games go to the Steam cloud (ha!) the would be under C:\User\<you>\My Games\<FO NV>\Save Games - Or some such. I recently lost my Borderlands saves when I reformatted, so I back up the saves folder now. ;)

I'll look into it.

Nobody bought this?

LOL at all the fuss that was made when this DLC was believed exclusive to the 360. You deny people something and they bitch like crazy. You give them something and it's just... meh.

We would have bought it if it wasn't a timed release. The way they released it, we had time to figure out it was kinda crappy before it even hit our platform. After how much I liked NV, I would have purchased sight unseen. They waited, reviews were generally mediocre, no longer interested.

I bought it the second I saw it. :)

And this is the downside to timed releases. They need to stop doing this. People who were going to buy X-boxes already have them. Stop beating the PC crowd over the head with it, or we will use it to our advantage. And not buy your crap DLC. So there. :p

I think I'll pick it up this weekend. 3-8 hours seems to be the claim from most reviews and their comments, which is worth $10 imo. New Vegas has always been rather stable (in comparison to Fallout 3) on my computer, so I'm not worried about that aspect.

I'm am kind of disappointed that despite raising the level cap, the game doesn't continue after the events at the Hoover Dam. Instead a prior save is needed, which in my case sets the character I'd want to play back quite a few levels. I guess my lack of saving is equal to their lack of continuation, but it is kind of irksome. I guess the ending of New Vegas does kind of eliminate this ability, what with the "changes" that happen due to the conclusion. But still.

For clarification, I'm not looking for a story continuation from the end, just a playable ending. I figured after Fallout 3 it would be obvious that a sandbox ending would be nice, instead of just ending the game.

I'm not going to search this forum for your name specifically.

But time after time, whenever I've posted favorable reviews at this forum, I've been told by the forum members that reviews mean nothing.

I just find it odd that people mix and match their arguments so freely. If I post a favorable review for, say, Dead Space 2, people rush in from everywhere and inform me that reviews these days are just total junk, and mean nothing. And yet in this thread, because the DLC has been poorly reviewed, people are saying that the DLC is garbage.

So which one is it?

Do reviews matter, or don't they?

I haven't played NV nearly as much as I did Fallout 3. Maybe I'm still burnt out on FO3 and thats why I can't play that much of NV. No point in buying DLC for something I'm not playing. I'd rather spent that $10 on Borderlands DLC.

I bought it yesterday. Need to find time to actually play it though. There's too much stuff to play this week... Dead Money, the DA2 demo, the Total War demo, Bulletstorm and Killzone 3. Not that I'm complaining :D

I think your confusing one person with multiple people. Everyone has a different opinion and just because Lenin thinks the reviews are a good gauge doesn't mean everyone else does.

Seeing some hitching, performance, and stability issues with this that I had not seen before.

Could be mod related but I'm not sure. Anyone else having any issues with this?

Can't say I'm blown away by this DLC but it's decent enough if you need a fix.

I mostly go by user reviews, which have been pretty mixed on this DLC. I don't trust most review sites very much, mostly due to wanting to appeal to the masses. I don't find my tastes lining up with the general populace too often. I get more honest reviews on games just reading these forums than I do anywhere else. At least I can discuss the merits of certain games with people that have similar tastes to my own.

The set and setting for it don't have me very interested either. I really enjoyed New Vegas, I thought it was quite a bit better than Fallout 3 even, but this has failed to capture my interest. This is somewhat influenced by the staggered release.

Staggered releases like this can only hurt sales, it was a stupid move. I'm willing to bet that most people will be getting this DLC when it is included in some GOTY package.

Of course it hurts sales. But that is made up by the fact MS gives Bethesda a bunch of money. MS gets the benefit as being a preferred platform for people want to buy DLC early.

I would have bought this DLC if it was released at the same time as the 360 stuff but now I'm too deep into other games. With Skyrim on the horizon I'm pretty sure I won't have the time to get back into Fallout New Vegas. In reality I haven't even completed much of the DLC for Oblivion or Fallout 3. For some reason it just seems like for the most part DLC isn't important enough for me to bother with.

Some of the DLC for those games has definitely been worthwhile, though. Between now and probably up to a year before Skyrim actually shows up you could do worse with your time and money. ;)

Funny thing is I own all the DLC for Oblivion and Fallout 3. I just need to get down and actually playing it but I doubt that will happen because I'm a little mod obsessed with Oblivion right now.

bit of bumpage here.

After playing through all the DLC...I would say, the only worth while one is Point Lookout. All the others are just extremely linear plays that are more like a regular FPS than Fallout. Broken Steel felt a lot like Anchorage to me and was not anything special.

They didn't really add anything to game other than leveling you up faster and getting a few decent items.

Still Fallout gets SOOOO limited once you hit the level cap...there really isn't much to do IMO once you hit it. Combat is useless as is hacking/picking everything. Even exploration becomes kind of silly as you gain nothing from it once you max out.

I think this time I explored everything outside of DC but inside, I didn't explore much at all. By the time I got in there, I was level 30 and bored of exploring the same metro over and over and I have no reason to find and get stuff either as I had awesome weapons, armor, maxed skills (well everthing 90+), and ammo galore.

That's when it's time to bring in the mods. ;)

Anyways, as for this first DLC for New Vegas? I promptly found a mod to get around that collar limitation so I could just get the thing done and get back to Mojave. I'm glad it's over. You do learn some interesting and tantalizing tidibts and dialog with certain characters about potential future adventures, which you even get an accomplishment for, but past that I really can't recommend Dead Money to anyone.

It's "ok." It also introduces performance issues in game I'd never seen before. These performance issues went away thankfully when I got out of there and returned to Mojave.

There's plenty of quest mods better than this thing like War Never Changes, New Vegas Bounties, Identity Crisis 1 and 2, Tales from the Burning Sands 1 and 2, and so forth that I found far more satisfying and flat out better than this. I'd EASILY recommend any and all of those to people before I'd recommend Dead Money.

Being free doesn't hurt, either, although I really feel like the creators of those mods deserve to be paid for that work.

This tidbit on the next NV DLC has me tantalized:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/news/index.php?id=809

The Fallout:New Vegas add-on Dead Money was released for the PC and PS3 February 22nd. In-game graffiti in New Vegas hinted at Dead Money, and now people have found a new hint in Dead Money's BSA archives. Players found the NVDLC02 snowglobe, named Zion National Park, shortly after Dead Money was released. Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah, implying that the next DLC will be in New Canaan, Utah. If the DLC does take place in New Canaan, the Burned Man will most likely make an appearance as the player’s main ally or enemy, depending on their allegiance.
New Canaan was originally planned to appear in Van Buren , the canceled Fallout 3 project by Black Isle Studios. A few people who worked on Van Buren have also worked on New Vegas, and this might be their way of finishing that project.

Now THAT'll be more like it!

Another update:

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1179411-an-update-from-bethesda/

Hi everyone,

On behalf of all of the hard-working teams at Bethesda and Obsidian, I’d like to give you an update what we’ve been working on these past few months.

Well, here’s what happened: our next DLC release (announcement coming very soon, we promise) has been complete while we worked on getting a patch ready for you all. We didn’t want to just release more DLC before we had a patch that would improve the overall New Vegas experience.

The good news is that we do have such a patch and it’s been handed off to the necessary platform owners. It should be released in the next couple of weeks on 360, PS3 and PC (can’t be more specific than that, I’m afraid, although PC will almost certainly get it first).

So what’s in that patch? First and foremost, optimizations and stability improvements. While there are bug fixes, our core focus was on improving stability and performance. We worked directly with first party platform owners to identify issues, and we have fixed a great deal of the crashes and lockups that people were experiencing. In addition, we scoured the forums and this patch includes weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes.

We know we’re not done yet. There’s still more work to do, and we’ll be monitoring the forums very carefully following the release of this patch, looking for more issues. We do have another update planned further down the line.

So I’d like to apologize for the radio silence. Hopefully you’ll be pleased with the enormous amount of work we’ve put into this update over the last few months, and will enjoy the rest of our DLC releases. We have some pretty cool stuff coming soon. Stay tuned!

Thanks,
Jason Bergman

Sounds good. :) Kind of noteworthy to see the PC actually get the first nod over the consoles for a change.

Honestly the quality of the DLC for Fallout : NV is pretty poor. I know its only on its second release (well soon to be anyway) but I really enjoyed the DLC for Fallout 3 much more.

At least Fallout : NV was a better experience overall than Fallout 3 was. I guess you can't have it all sometimes.

To be fair, Fallout 3's first DLC was Operation Anchorage. And just for laughs, Oblivion's was Horse Armor :D

So what did you think about Blood Money, Q-BZ?

Dead Money? Medicore.

The only thing it was worth was meeting Father Elijah, who meant a lot to Veronica and some tantalizing hints of future adventures to come from character dialog and that's about it.

This next DLC I know will be considerably better.

There does seem to be a "trend" here where the first DLCs on these games leave a lot to be desired and then it just gets ramped up after that.

There's a number of quest mods and such I can recommend that are as good as any paid DLC could be: Vegas New Bounties 1 and 2 and A World of Pain are my favorites at the moment. Top quality all the way to an astounding degree.

Q-BZ, interesting.

With regards to Dead Money, I wonder why Obsidian didn't just study Bethesda's DLC for Fallout 3 to see what worked and what didn't.

The self contained island of Point Lookout provided a new mini open world for people to explore, so maybe do that. The Brotherhood of Steel continued the story of the original game, introduced new perks, and raised the level cap, so maybe do that.

But no. Instead Obsidian seems to have modeled the DLC on Operation Anchorage or something. Or maybe Obsidian DID study Bethesda's DLC schedule, and are trying to duplicate it. LOL.

Heh, either way, you're probably right.

I totally agree.

In any event, everyone should try out those mods I mentioned. :)

DLC that takes place in Zion National Park? Hell yeah! Southern Utah is such a cool place to go hiking in, hopefully they capture the feel of the region.

It's going to be big. I'm EAGERLY anticipating it. I really am kind of a junkie for these Fallout games. ;)

What's supposed to be so bad about it? A couple of friends whom opinion i tend to trust said it was pretty good, and most of the reviews i've read seem to criticize this DLC for things that to my eyes actually sound very good.

What's that? Dead Money? It's not "bad." I just thought it was kind of mediocre. It's a decent enough romp.

I think this next DLC forthcoming is going to be great.
