Fallout 76 just got a release date for the game's "Break-it Early Test Application", or B.E.T.A for short. Xbox One users can jump in on October 23rd, while everyone else will have to wait another week. Bethesda posted instructions for applying to the beta, along with other pertinent information, on a FAQ page here, while server status updates can be seen here. Bethesda warns that the servers "won't be live 24/7" during the beta as they try to iron out issues, which is pretty typical as far as multiplayer alphas and betas go. For those that don't want to be guinea pigs, the full game will drop on November 14th. Just remember not to look for it on Steam.

Check out the official in-game intro here.

Fallout 76 officially releases on November 14th, but the first chance to experience the game can begin much earlier than that. We’re excited to announce that our B.E.T.A. (Break-It Early Test Application) will arrive first on Xbox One on Tuesday, October 23rd and one week later for PlayStation 4 and PC players on Tuesday, October 30th.

Why is there an Xbox logo on my PC. Windows doesn't need a friend.

No beta for me. I cancelled my PO until more info and initial game play is out. I love the FO series and have always wanted to wander the wasteland with buddies but the PVP system has me highly concerned.

Definitely will wait several months after launch to play.

I've enjoyed all of the Fallout time sinks but have no interest in a multiplayer version.

I love FO, and I still haven't finished FO4 because I play very little at a time and do a lot of exploration.

I am very curious what sort of incentives people will have to make this an enjoyable MP experience.
I've played many, many MP games. From FPS to CO-OP (minecraft) to RPGs. I have yet to consider other, anonymous players as a source of joy and fulfillment in a virtual world.

So I'll hold my order. I may have to sit this one out if there is no decent Single Player experience.

Eh, this game is a very faint blip on my radar. Love the Fallout universe but I'm really not that interested in the multiplayer aspects or the inability to mod the game, which IMO was half the fun. Really more interested in the new Metro game than anything, and I'm still having fun playing Borderlands 2 which I never got around to finishing.

If you pre-order and play the beta, are you obligated to purchase the game if you don't like it?

Warning, any mmo veteran knows what the following means:

Q: Is the B.E.T.A. the full game? Will my B.E.T.A. progress carry over to the official launch?
A: The B.E.T.A. is the full game. Our current plan is for your progress to carry over once Fallout 76 officially launches on November 14. Stay tuned for more information.

I was actually trying to find out why they specifically showed Xbox One X and Xbox One S in the trailer. Will the Xbox One have issues? Im still curious about the staggering power difference between X and S(and orig) and how they resolve it in competitive play.

I have no interest in pre-ordering the game and will wait quite a while before giving it a shot I am pleasantly surprised by how they are handling the PVP aspect in the game, if you label yourself as a pacifist and someone decides to attack you you can actually block the person trying to fight you:

You can label your character pacifist if you're looking to avoid griefers, and if someone starts a fight anyway, you can choose to ignore or block that player. If someone kills you and you didn't want to participate in that fight, they'll get no reward. In fact, they'll become a wanted target, with a bounty coming out of their own caps, plus they'll be marked on the map with a red star and won't be able to see the other players on the map coming to get them. Sounds like a pretty decent griefing solution for an open world game. GTA Online could learn a thing or two.

I'm hoping this isn't a complete fuster cluck but online experiences usually are. I'd like to try the beta just because.

Oh here we go. PUBG meets Destiny meets Fallout. Either way... no single player campaign, no sale for me. Plus you know it's going to be spiked to the gills with micro-transactions. Bethesda cannot wait to get their hands on some of that action. DLCs take work.... selling loot boxes or yellow pip boys are free moneys!

Bethesda's games haven't disappointed me so far, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. With a few friends this could be pretty cool. I don't think there's any obligation to do PvP or anything, and co-op in Fallout seems like it'd be fun.

They are showing what you can buy. You can't buy the none S version anymore. That said there is no performance difference between the original release and the S that would be noticeable. They made it smaller, removed the external power brick and added in a 4K drive. They didn't change the CPU or GPU to higher specs. So no there wouldn't be an issue with the original Xbox One. As for the difference between the S and X, has there been some massive basis in all other online games caused by that now?

Anyone preorder off Amazon? I got a code when I first bought it, but it doesn't show up in the Bethesda launcher.

I wish they stopped calling these server stress tests "betas". 2 weeks is not a beta, you don't have time to fix anything major in that time frame.

Well, in theory beta is "nearly ready for release"

Alpha would be the time to find major bugs and then fix them. Although, I agree, anything that isn't super minor won't be fixed in 2 weeks.

I think is ridiculous that you have to pre-order to participate in the BETA. Its like saying you have to pay us for you to work for us......gone are the days of real testing before games are released.

Wait a sec - I thought there was single player campaign. There just wasn't supposed to be any NPCs - which I assume meant quests from wanted posters or books or other things rather than people NPCs giving you the fetch quests.

Is it just me or is this launch MUCH less exciting than the previous releases in this series?

Its not just you. Its becoming a tired series. Need to put it on the shelf for awhile.
