Yeah, so....Im a pack rat. I gather things from everywhere I look and I have a hard time selling them, thinking I might need them later, so I end up carrying everything, which then leads to me not having room for much to carry.

I tested out putting some stuff in a locker, toolbox, etc and then coming back to them a few game days later and they are gone. So, test completed, I cant store my GOOD items anywhere I know of.

Anyone got an idea of what I can do with all my "stuff"....I mean, besides sell it all??

If you get a house in Megaton, or the suite in Tenpenny Towers, you can store stuff there.

I don't think stuff disappears if you place it anywhere indoors. I had stuff in moiras shop for a good 3-4 days and it didn't disappear. Might as well sell your stuff though, unless you have some power armor.

Best thing to do is get the house/suite.

Ummm, Hmmm,

I hate to have too many spoilers, but I havent come across anyone saying I can buy a house in Megaton and Im not all that far into the game for Tenpenny.

The Locker I tried to store some items was in the Simms house. Thats indoors and disappears after bout 2 days.

I just cant bring myself to sell the items I have, I just KNOW that as soon as I do sell them, Im going to come across someone who either needs them or I will need them to make myself a weapon later on in the game. I just KNOW it!!!! Just like all that "scrap metal" I had, which I sold for very little....Soon after, I come across some dude in Megaton saying he will pay me for any scrap metal I find. I could have made about 200 caps, but I sold it all earlier for about 20caps just to free up some carrying weight. I was knocking myself upside the head when that happened, cause I NEED that money for ammo....which btw, Im having a difficult time keeping stocked. Damn guns/ammo...takes freaking 5-6 shots just to kill an ant. Im starting to think Im doing things the wrong way in this game and maybe I should kite them little bastards all down one alley way and set a few bottle cap mines to blow them all up at once???

Disarm the bomb in megaton ;).

Ahhhh.....Gotcha;);)

I was planning on doing that actually......just havent gotten around to it yet, heh. Well, TBH, I was thinking I probably needed a higher explosives skill...Im only at 43 atm. But, lets ring that bell and see what happens, hehe. SAVE first of course, lol.

SPOILER ALERT: I'm only posting this because you seem genuinely upset, to the point where you are too busy worrying to enjoy the game :)

READ ON BELOW IF YOU DON'T MIND A LITTLE SPOILER (no plot spoilers whatsoever).

About the only things you should care about for crafting (that weigh something):

Sensor Modules
Lunchboxes
Nuka Cola Quantum

Everything else is either abundant or useless. Some items may be useful in quests, but you won't get hurt too bad if you sell a few.

Things with weight that are worth money/experience/items (to the right people):

Blood packs
Pre-war books
Scrap Metal
Sugar Bombs

You might also want to leave some heavy stuff where it lies. It only disappears if you put it in your inventory - if you leave it wherever you see it, you can come back anytime and take it. This way, you leave a lot of your potential crafting materials where you can find them later in the game.

What I do: don't pick anything up unless the caps to weight ratio is at least 3 to 1, and give priority to things with higher ratios. You can also use Repair to combine multiple similar items into one (more expensive) item, thus saving you weight while still giving you high-dollar items to sell.

Also, in the early game, ammo is expensive on-purpose, to make the game more difficult. Don't be afraid to engage enemies in melee combat. There are some very impressive and cheap weapons that do more damage than a crappy 10mil pistol, and are cheap to maintain. And yes, explosives are also a reasonable way to kill things.

Why don't you just use a weight mod? I use this, gives me 50tons weight capacity:D

Don't worry about explosives skill for the bomb, you only need 25 to either disarm or arm the bomb. There is no chance of "screwing up" really.

I like the Megaton house better, faster to get to and has two stories. But in my current playthrough I went the evil route and got tenpenny.

Maybe it's different on the PC version, but I used the trash cans and NC machines in front of the Super Duper Mart all throughout the game because it was quick to FT to and the free bed under the bridge was easily accessible from here as well. There are the random spawns of enemies around the SDM and the bridge, but nothing I couldn't handle. Items remained in those three containers all throughout my playthrough.

Thanks for all the help and info guys.

I disarmed the bomb and got my cozy 2 story dwelling :)

I decided to look more carefully around the newbie areas and found some decent stashes of ammo. I never thought to look inside the mailboxes or the mail drop boxes (DOH!!!). I also decided to investigate the Springvale school a bit more closely this time and found some cave (I really ought to pay more attention to the info provided by the computers).

Ive learned that I REALLY need to think "outside the box" with this game. The clues given are subtle and ya cant just blast past the reading elements, such as that computer in the school. I hacked that thing the day after Xmas and have had that info all this time but never really soaked it in.

Greadus - Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it, but I do not use mods in my gaming that alter the "norm" of the game. Perhaps after I beat the game, but not before.

Defaultluser - Now THOSE are decent spoilers. Good info. Wished I knew about those Quantums before, heh. Ive already sold bout 4-5 of them :( Ive been doing the repair thing with the Raiders ive killed. I take their armor, choose the one with the best condition, then use the rest to repair that one. Been getting some decent caps for them too :) Ive also repair a .32mm gun to the point that it does as much damage as the 10mm :) Cool stuff indeed.

Thanks again [H]

Excellent information. Thank you all very very much. Now I can stop bugging people on where to buy that darn house :)

There are a ton of Nuka Cola Quantums in the game...something like 100 or more.
Granted it seems like they're pretty rare when you're doing the quest for them, but I completed the quest and still have 25 left in storage in Megaton. In the quest for the 30 bottles, you can find literally 1/2 of them in 3 locations: the bottling plant, the Super Duper Mart, and the wreck in the northeast.

If I may piggy back off this thread...[Slight spoiler]

Ok...I am almost 40 hours in and having a blast but have hit a roadblock on the main quest. I actually ended up talking to Dr. Li at Rivet City before going to GNR Plaza. I went to Jefferson Monument and found the holo tapes about the purity plan but that is about all I have been able to uncover. I can't seem to do any of the things there that obviously need to be done like get the power going. All of the useable items say "not available now" or something to that affect. I found a door to a pump area that requires key. Am I missing something obvious here?

You've done everything you need to do there for now. Listen to the holotapes and they'll tell you where you need to go.

Yah, get Charon. He's great for that part of the game, can carry a fair amount, and if you put him in powered armor isn't instagibbed during every encounter.

AH-HA! I went back to Jefferson Memorial and found some other holo tapes that I had not seen originally. Those being 5-8-10. Big difference in the info on those tapes

I had Charon in Tesla and Cross in the T51 and hardly ever had to fire a shot. Together they are great pack mules. Dogmeat and Sarge were always dying when I used them.

I found that items stayed where I left them, in containers or not.

The only place that is not safe are "respawning" containers. There are a few of these in your house, such as the refrigerator and a couple other ones. If you put items in them, then they will disappear sometimes. The lockers in the Megaton house are 100% safe I know.

Stored all my stuff in the house in Megaton. Look out for the bobblehead upstairs...

Can't wait for the DLC, I need it to re-ignite my interest in the game. Once I reached level 20 my interest dropped dramatically

I stored all my stuff in the Mens lav locker in Megaton for most of the game.
Then I defused the bomb and got the house and started using that for loot.
I didnt ever lose a thing from the locker in the mens lavatory, so its definitely safe to stash there.

Yeah, Ive been storing stuff in MY apartments locker in Megaton. Ive got LOTS of stuff in there now, hehe. It doesnt seem to have a limit.

Last night, just for kicks and grins, I saved my game, then went on a shooting rampage. Went up to that jerk Jericho, stood behind him with my combat shotgun and blew his head clean off, hehe. Of course though, afterwards, everyone in town started coming after me. It was fun for a bit.

Then....I decided to leave them alone and I went up to the Armory. I had the key, but the wording was still written in red.....but i went in anyways. Died a few times trying to kill off that damn robot, then I finally did kill it. Found lots of guns :). Was able to repair my combat shotgun and my rifle, FINALLY. Moira charges wayyy to much to fix things....that bitch, hehe.

Was doing the "book" thing for Moira for a while, but now Ive gone back to doing some of the earlier quests that were given to me. Right now im trying to find Lucy's little brother. Already came back and told her that her parents are all dead. Cant find her brother anywhere, but im sure I'll find him eventually...NO SPOILER on that one please...I'll find him.

The game hasnt crashed on me in the past few days....WOOHOO. Been fun so far......Im really getting into the game. Been awhile since I played a game like this....Never finished the HL games....they made me sick after bout 30 minutes of game play....Oh well....

Doing the book quest is a bit funnier if you've nuked Megaton.

You can continue mid-quest if you blow up the town? Wow, that's pretty funny, because of her physical "state" after you nuke the town (don't wanna spoil it, too funny).

Again, just for kicks...during my rampage last night in Megaton....I did try to go back and blow up the town, but since I already disarmed the bomb, it wouldnt let me :(.

I wonder what would happen if I set that mini-nuke off next to the big one??? Chain reaction maybe??? Hehehe.........

Ahhhh.....the wife and kids just left to go shopping....WOOHOOO....I think Im going to load the game up and have some more fun....

Any decent mods out like the mannequin mod for oblivion and new houses to showcase all your loot?
