I happened to stumble across this link while surfing some gaming sites. I haven't tried it yet, but if it's as good as the high resolution texture pack was for oblivion, then  . Fallout 3 looks great texturewise already, so I'm not gonna guarantee anything as I haven't seen screenshots with this mod.

If you do install, SCREENSHOTS SCREENSHOTS SCREENSHOTS!

http://www.gamershell.com/download_36866.shtml

"Install:
Navigate to "C:UsersUsernameDocumentsMy GamesFallout3" (or equivalent on XP)

Open Fallout 3.ini
Find the line "bInvalidateOlderFiles=0" and change the 0 into a 1
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

Now navigate to the fallout 3 install directory and copy the contents of this torrent and overwrite if prompted."

I am downloading now......... i will post screenies asap

Would it been too hard for that guy who posted to take pics at a save point for side by side comparisons? Hard to tell without side by side comparisons. I'm dl now will have to check to see if this is worth it.

The only thing I could compare between those shots was the gun... and even that's difficult because the lighting isn't even the same. lol

this pack looks great... i dont know if these screenies will do it justice but i will try

the biggest improvment for me was the pip boy

damn photobucket resizing images i will see if i can find a better host to use full size pics

Edit: I am in the process of uploading the pics right now.... i will have direct links to them as soon as i get them up

Nice screens you got there. From the ground textures I can see between the 1st and 2nd pic, it looks much sharper and dense (more rocks and bumps) with the texture pack. It'd be great if you could just take a screenshot of the ground and compare them.

Did you notice much of a performance hit at all?

No noticeable performance hits but the only real texture difference is obvious in the pip boy, gun, but nothing really major like the ground or walls. I'd upload pics but its a waste. I would say pass on this one and wait for a better version.

Edit: Spoke a little too soon they did add a cool blood splatter effect. So if you like the pipboy coloration, some minor textures to guns/armor this is good download.

you need your eyes examined if you think Fallout 3 already had good textures. this games textures look as bad as HL 2.

I cant see any visual difference at all with this high def pack. all the ugly bland textures look like they are still there to me. makes me wonder if I even installed it correctly...

I like Fallout 3, but holy crap it takes grayness to new heights. Yesterday I was running around and happened to run by some boards that were brown and red. I stopped to look at them becuase anything other than gray is so unusual to see.

I take that back. I meant to say specifically that the game as good ground textures, especially in outdoor environments, since it does make up a large portion of what it is. Texture elsewhere could use a boost.

I would have loved to see Fallout 3 done with the Half Life 2 engine.

Those blood splatters sure do look purdy.

We were talking about this at the bethsoft forums. We don't know who put this "hi-def" package together, but it looks like a compilation of works done by a few other modders were thrown together. I hope not, it doesn't fall in line with modders' etiquette to take other people's content and repackage it without consent.

Don't even bother with that archive invalidation file..

Here are some texture packs for guns, ground, road, night sky, sun. Looks better compared to the link.

Ground

Road
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=774

Guns

Night Sky
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=442

Sun Glare Mod
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=555

All those mods just increase texture (besides sun mod) resolution or detail. I've tried out a few, but my HD failed, wasn't able to get screen caps for all, but there are images in the links.

I think all of these are included in this texture pack aren't they?

I installed this, but I don't really see any difference other than the icons in my pip boy being colored now. It didn't cause any slowdown that I can tell, but my fps were already pinged at 60 anyways, so that doesn't surprise me. Unfortunately, I'm getting really bad flickering on some textures now. The grass and water will just randomly start going crazy on me.

Welcome to Fallout. Its always been brown and other dark colors. Bethesda pretty much kept the art style intact. The first two games didn't exactly have a lot of color either.

I don't think it includes all those packs. From the screenies it doesn't look like it included the weaponpack, it just looked like some of the ground ones and a crappy pipboy re-coloring. After looking at them again, the original one posted didn't even alter the rock textures, which my first link did alter (ground link for Mimezu textures). Like it's been said, looks like some guy stole others mods and made a pack that he labeled as his own.

Here's a better mod manager than the fallout launcher one. Should make installing those a little easier.

Well, I'm seeing a performance drop with this texture pack on the final mission.

1680x1050, ultra settings, 15x AF. I'm guessing it's using up all of my VRAM?

I'm not sure who compiled this "High Def" pack, but there's no word about it on the Bethesda forums, and that usually means it's a ragtag job and should be ignored for the time being.

In fact, I've heard whisper that Qarl, the dude who created the High Res pack for Oblivion, will now tackle Fallout 3 (thanks to the announcement and optimism of the G.E.C.K). Give Fallout 3 modders a good six months and you will have a game deserving of $50.
