Got this game yesterday thanks to Newegg's slightly early shipping (they stopped shipping it early wed afternoon).

So far I'm really enjoying it.

The game exudes a very Grimm brothers fairy tale atmosphere with a helping of British influences.

The graphics are quite good, especially with the time of day changes and draw distance along with the lighting and shadow effects. Though some things like the Water seem a bit iffy in terms of your interaction (very bland looking splashes/movement when you're swimming in it).

The world itself is a LOT more open then Fable 1, but it's not Oblivion style free roaming where you can just head off in any direction. It still have a "hub" like feel to it, just a looooot bigger and open. In the first open area you get in you can easily explore around woodlands, a giant lake, etc. Easy to get sidetracked trying to find chests and other hidden things.

The dog is pretty good, he helps you find treasure and diggable area's and also has his own charm. He sticks close to you most of the time, however sometimes he can lag behind or get stuck (has happened to me twice so far). However over all he's probably the best dog in a game I've seen in terms of animation/behavoir.

I got the rubber ball and threw it in the lake thinking he wouldn't get it, but he jumped right in after it and came back. Then randomly you'll be standing around and he'll do a trick that you haven't got yet (IE roll over, flip, etc). Just overall he seems like a good companion, he doesn't come off feeling like a stale/robotic companion that you might get in most games.

In combat when I get an enemy knocked down (but not dead) he will sometims finish the job for me and run up to the guy and kill him (I have him trained in the second tier combat).

As far as exploration goes, there are the usual chests and Demon doors back from fable (the demon doors are quite more robust now, the voicework for them is great and they remind me of that guy in the Return to oz, the main guy at the end of the movie made out of stone).

Fishing so far, I haven't seen a fishing pole. However in lakes and things there are ripples where you can swim to and then dive down tofind something, I assume that's replaced fishing instead.

Also there are gargoyles that you can find and Kill, however I haven't killed one yet, I only saw one attached to a stone bridge, but I couldn't hit it since I don't have my ranged skill up high enough to aim myself.

The combat so far is button mashing, I've yet to train high enough to do flourishes nor aim, so it's still early to tell how it will be.

However even now the combat is fun, mainly because you can quickly switch it up between melee, ranged, and magic. I love the pistols in the game. You pop off a couple of rounds on some poor guy then rush in with your sword and finish it off.

The magic is nice, but I'm trying not to use it too much (don't want to get the blue glowy runes all over my guy). However I've trained in electricity and it's great how you can have one spell, but three different ways to use it.

If you simply push the button for it, you do an AOE affect around you. If you quickly tap it in a direction toward someone you do a quick lightning throw (think Star wars) and if you aim at someone and hold it a second it does more of a lightning ball attack that seems to do more dmg.

Another thing that is a lot of fun is the physics. The ragdolls are ok (a bit ragdolly) but when you are fighting near ledges and things, if you get people close enough you can kick them off/over them makes for a more visceral and appealing way to kill someone then usual.

Clothing wise, the game is a loooot more robust then Fable. There are options for Coats, Head gear (hats, etc), masks (IE bandit mask, ballroom mask, eye patch), Upper body, lower body, gloves, and feet.

You can have a coat + upperbody piece show if it's open (IE I have a coat that looks like an old English style coat with buttons down the middle and opening at top, which shows my undershit).

Also dyes, you can now get dyes and use them on clothing or your hair. So far most dyes I've seen were grey, pink, light shades. I haiven't found black/red/white, etc type of dyes, hopefully they have those colors in, not really down with the pink dyes myself :p.

Morphing wise, I havent' got far enough to really notice this, my guy still looks the same as the young adult you start out as after the childhood segment. I have put one point into all of my skill and strength abilities andone into will.

Money wise as some of you may know, quests do not reward you with money in Fable 2. If you want money you either have to find out (your dog will come in handy hear) or work a job.

So far I've only worked two jobs, a Blacksmith and Woodcutter. It's not hard at all, a simple minigame where you have a dot that goes on a line back and fourth and you just tap the button when the dot gets in a certain area.

You can gain ranks in a job the more you work it and thus get more money.

So far I haiven't encountered any way to learn Hand to hand combat. However there is a "slap" expression you can use to slap people.

Also of note, I have seen quite a few posters in bowerstone for Puglism (boxing), so hopefully later on there's some type of fist fighting with a fight club type of thing like fable 1 had.

I have yet to experience multiplayer, since no one else I know has the game but I hiaven't encountered any "orbs" of people around yet, perhaps I'm too early to see them yet or something.

When I first put in the game there was an update, which I'd assume was the co op update and things (since other people with the game have did co op and things).

Overall, I would highly recommend the game if you like rpgs and especially if you liked Fable 1.

Ever since I found out Edge gave this a 9 earlier I've been getting more and more eager to play it. :D

I like to be surprised when it comes to sequels (new features, enhancements, etc) so I only read like 2 sentences in the OP... then quickly placed my order on NewEgg. :D

I've been waiting a good while for this game to come out and now it's less then a week from release I'm really wanting to play it.

How much time have you put into it Stiler?

Nice typo :D

But thats awesome that you can have coats now and still wear a body piece under it.

So overall, would you say this is better than Fable/Lost Chapters?

In terms of openess of the land, graphics, and the combat, yes.

I haven't played long enough yet to say the same for morphing and more in-depth features just yet.

Ars Technica has a huge write-up on it. Admirably, that site does not issue numerical scores to their reviews, but reading it you can tell the author loved the game - calling it one of the best RPG's of the year. I will definitely be picking the game up this week.

The good

* Beautiful art style
* Excellent writing, voice acting
* Extremely well-developed world
* Tons of quests
* Incredible tapestry and breadth of great gameplay systems
* Great achievements
* Local and online co-op

The bad

* Some visual bugs and slowdown issues
* Co-op visiting player can't use actual character
* Combat can be hit or miss
* Breadcrumb trail is hard to live without but makes you lazy
* Lacking depth in some areas
* Generally not very challenging

The ugly

* Deciding to put off questing for that rare treasure you've been seeking for weeks on your one day off from real-life work because the townspeople want your blood for overcharging, your wife is pregnant with your third child and she wants more money and nice furniture for the family, your ex-wife is sleeping with the blacksmith at the store you own, and your first-born son is attacking the neighbors' chickens with the toy sword you gave him.

Great & humorous reviews :D I'm looking forward to playing this tomorrow.

So the coop for couch coop doesn't work? or the online coop? I thought they were going to release the patch for online coop. I didn't think they limited all the coop.

the official release date in the U.S. is the 21st of oct, today. They wouldn't make the feature live until then.

some people got copies early.

"couch" co-op does work.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed to first one. However, 2 seems nerfed. I'll still buy it and play though it, but I'm not expecting much.

a month ago they said coop wouldnt work release day but there would be a patch in the following week. Seems like they got the patch ready for release day now. Good to hear.

What? Its the exact opposite. Fable 1 was over hyped, but 2 is delivering on everything. Eurogamer gave it a 10, and its averaging over 92% right now on all reviews.

I picked this up today, it's pretty fun so far. I just got to the first town where you can take jobs/buy stuff/etc. I'm working on maxing out blacksmithing, its kind of tedious but fun at the same time.

Should hold me over till Fallout 3 comes out at least :)

potential spoilers? dont read below, nothing about the story just gameplay

awesome game... im working on being a land/property baron, already got like 20 or so making 4k a day, and still working on on blacksmithing to make more money i plan on (working on) buying all the stuff in barowstone, to try and become king as the hints say can happen when loading different areas.. king/evil/hero/with tons of bastid kids is my plan... lol

haha, that's awesome. Impregnate the city!

I did this in about 3 hours...

Time to start investing in property!

....and maybe go outside....

This game is quite fun & 25x better than Lost Chapters. So much depth to the world & gameplay. The only issue I have is the lack of... quality in the rendering of water. It looks like liquid silver most of the time & is nothing close to <insert any game with great water>. Seems like the devs skipped that as a highlight for improvement when they made the game engine.

*VERY MINOR SPOILERS*

I maxed out blacksmithing last night, all together took maybe 2 hours max, probably less. Would have been sooner but I was falling asleep and couldn't get any chains going :p

Got an achievement for getting 5 stars in a profession. Bought the best sword and gun from the smith and picked up a few houses. Just running around killing guys on the way to the next town I was making about 200g every few mins.

I have done the good guy role so far, helping people every chance I could. I killed some bandit looting a carriage and my moral standing or w/e went down a bit. Also found the first door with a face on it, he wants my dog to do tricks, but the dog only knows one trick so far. Guess I'll have to backtrack later.

Awesome game so far, gonna put in a few more hours after work :)

Having fun so far. Maxing out blacksmithing wasn't that challenging. I did it in 10 minute segments while running around doing other things. Every time I'd run past the blacksmith shop I'd stop in for a while. Fairly easy to do. I like the fact that the dog will help you hunt down certain elements of quests. Haven't bought any houses or businesses yet but that's my next thing to do after I finish off my current quest.

Ok I picked it up and played it last night for a while. Try about 4 hours.

First impressions and some things to note

- Bread crumb trails are awesome. Basically when get off the beaten path is so easy to get on the right path.

-Things have been improved greatly in the depth area. Basically it is just more things you can do. If you were not a fan of the interaction in the first game it is basically unchanged here.

Now I am going to focus on the things that I did not like for people on the fence. I like the game and it is fun, but I am overly critical so take this for what it is worth.

-Interaction is unchanged. Basically it is easy to just go up to any lady and say "Flirt" and do this over and over till they are ready to wed. This was like it was in Fable and I was wishing there would have been more of a quest atmosphere to this similar to like there was with Lady Grey.

-You are overpowered. Basically the combat system while easy to use is too easy to win. It is easy to just press B (Magic) one hundred times and watch your enemies fall over without a scratch. So if you are looking for a challenge pass on this game and pick up Lost Odyssey.

- All jobs are basically the same. Buy this property or buy that property and rent it out. Chop this wood by hitting the A button or hit this with a hammer hitting the A button.

The best part about any of the jobs are the gambling portion. The game "Keystone" is fun. Every cent I have made so far I have basically lost due to my gambling and hooker addiction.

To sum up my gameplay last night:

I got to Brownerstone (one of the first cities) last night after a couple of hours of play. I broke a few windows paid a fine. Took up blacksmithing for bit and then all hell broke loose!

I then proceeded to break down a few doors steal everything and then said I was going to do community service instead of paying a 3 grand fine.

Once I left the city I was in the poor mans area or the projects of the city outside the main area where there was no police. Again I robbed, picked up a hooker, killed everyone and finally topped it off by have enough death to break my parole so I traveled to a different city.

Picked up a Monks outfit that supposedly makes me good but I just like to ruin cities dressed like the guy from Assassins Creed. Slept with another man's wife, killed some more people and grew horns.

Basically some of the mischief things about the first game are still here and still awesome and satisfying, but some of the big things are unchanged.

Bottom line:

If you played a lot of the first game and grew tired of the things in the first game then it is a safe bet to skip this game. If you wanted more of the the first game then pick up Fable 2.

You can't die? That is a huge nerf IMHO. Doesn't sound like much of a challenge. (The first one was pretty easy to begin with.) Like I said, I'll play it anyway.

FYI, Reviews aren't everything, a lot of great games out there that got poor reviews.
